      @@MelloCello7People aren't evil for buying publicly available pet food for their animals. We can blame the company for wrongdoings, but people buying from a company that holds a giant position in a particular field is just life. It is nearly impossible to make a purchase that doesn't go to a thing or a person that isn't 100% up to your standards. Same with associations.

      @@Tubeytime Partnerships aren't just transactional. They often signal a level of mutual endorsement. When a company like Boston Dynamics partners with Nestlé, which has been under fire for ethical issues for many decades, it's not unreasonable for people to question the alignment of values. This can absolutely impact how the public perceives the ethical stance of Boston Dynamics. Given the disruptive technology that BD creates I think it's important for them to signal that they believe in taking social responsibility. This video is the opposite of that.

    I was in a Purina pet food factory in Denver while doing a solar installation. There are sections of the factory where you were ordered to turn OFF your mobile phone due to the risk of dust explosion. Spot's got a ton of signalling, I'm sure they vetted it for similar risks.

    • @Mr76Pontiac
      @Mr76Pontiac ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Home use IoT devices are going to be much more expensive for industrial use. Home use, you rarely have to worry about stuff going down and costing you hundreds, thousands or millions of dollars in down time. Industrial IoT is going to be more expensive because it requires much more hardening due to vibrations, heat, active use, voltage management, etc. There's more R&D that goes into an industrial IoT device, especially when it's custom and has to be done hundreds to thousands of times. I can see spending a few 10s of thousands of dollars to invest in a robot to go and check some basic thermals at least to watch for motors overheating instead of relying on thousands of IoT devices to do that same job.
      The other aspect of IoT is the supporting the SUPPORTING hardware. What does the IoT device need? Needs to talk to a server. Where's the server? In-house or AWS? Whats the cost of running the server monthly (Trust me, flip'n expensive).
      I don't know what the maintenance is like on Spot, but, you're not dumping thousands of dollars per month on it. Yeah, a motor might quit, or, a sensor could go, but that's ONE device to go out compared to the however many are out on the field.

    • @jacobpaint
      @jacobpaint ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lighthawk95I think we all saw that but just because they said it, doesn't make it true. I think that's what the comment was getting at.
      I personally have no idea how much it was already costing them for the various sensors, technicians and potential downtime when things broke, compared with one(?) robot. For all I know, it is a big saving plus it might make the process much more fluid and more effective in some ways… or they could be selling the robot and the image of the pet food company (judging by many comments here, that's a hard sell). They wouldn't publish a video saying that Spot is less efficient and not cost-effective so we can take their claims with a grain of salt unless they supply evidence.

      @tigerrrdyr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@duceolsen well I would point out that if a bearing gets hot, it is dead and should have been replaced before failure.
      Plus lots of bearings in industrial machines are behind a thick metal Shield if they aren't housed deep within. Usually factorys have a maintenance schedule for greasing and for replacing bearings. But if spot could automate that huge work of taking measurements, it would optimise both maintenance scheduling, catch MTBF errors, avoid down time, stretch part life and more.
      1000+ bearing's are not unusual in small automated factory's.. container ships = 4000+ bearings. The struggle is real :)
      I'm Shure you could buy a spot and get a month salary, just from service contracting with companys this way, wake op in the morning, drop spot off at work, drive home and enjoy the day until spot calls and tells you, he's off early today, come get me owner 😁

They can go places a human can't physically or safely go, it's adding to not only deeper diagnostics but also safer diagnostics. Boston Dynamics nor Amazon have full automation, no company in the millions and millions of companies in the world does (possibly one, a few others do have automated processes) as human labour is cheaper and more exploitable, which is why many of the jobs that you listed will not be replaced by robots. Whole additional industries are needed to be run and employed by humans for the design, creation, manufacture and maintenance of robots as well as people employed to work directly with them. People seem to forget that Nestle is buying Spot robots as products from BD. It's not necessarily a partnership. Sadly, no matter what each party's reputation looks like, business is business. I personally won't hold it against them because Nestle bought their robots. Still doesn't make me appreciate Nestle any more.

    When people see your Atlas videos they think it's an Ai animated video. I do not believe that. If you look closely, you'll notice the small corrective movements when Atlas touches down after a jump. You've been developing for so many years, from the first "Pogo Stick" until now. Anyone who believes Atlas is a fake also believes that the earth is hollow.
