Hello J... I am trying to become more familiar with edrawings and have a model that was provided to me from one of my fabricators... when I measure parts, the scale is way off.. what should be approx. 12" dY result = .455in. The drawing was made in solidworks (mm), but for some reason I cannot figure out how to extract actual measurements. can you give me a hand understanding what the problem is... I assume the file is ' OK to Measure' since I can pull up the tool. Not sure if that has something to do with it... also I am using the free version... also not sure this is a problem. Let me know... thanks!!!
Hi, when you save the file from Solidworks, make sure you click on options and then find the setting for saving as an eDrawing file and make sure the checkbox for "allow measure tool" is checked.
How do you do freeform dimensions? I am trying to get a distance from a circular end face to a curved backside on a multielement, and the program edrawngs is very flakey allowing me to get surfaces it accepts. Then, can I put three dimesions on the screen at once (length.width, depth)? Is there anyway to do outline dimensions of all the outer envelope? Thanks!
Hi Chuck, have you tried clicking on points of the circle or arc? eDrawings let's you click on end points, quarter points and center points. See if that helps.
@@Plusplusultra Thanks, but it's not shown in the video. The video mainly shows how to measure distances existing shapes, like circle/square/rectangle. What I need is to measure the distance between any two points (see two points inside one circle).
@@Plusplusultra Thanks for your quick reply. What if there is only one flat circle, no [shown] points inside the circle. In this case, I cannot highlight anywhere inside the circle, but the circle itself. Hope this explains what the real issue I'm facing with. Thanks.
@@YongtaoHU I see! Yes sometimes there are features with no points and it's not possible to measure. What you can do is measure the radius or diameter of the circle and then measure a straight section and add them up. Does that help?
@@XplanZ perhaps it is possible. Google it or check settings in eDrawings. I agree, it might be a bit easier to have a 'hot key' for different tools in eDrawings.
@@Plusplusultra Could be. These files being generated and sent to me from outside parties. I didn't know if it was something on my end or theirs when they generate the file.

lol this doesn't work at all. measuring a dxf file that is confirmed correctly drawn and to a 1:1 scale this crappy e-drawings pro thinks the part is some arbitrary massive measurement. just garbage translation.
Awesome tutorial. Short, sweet and to the point.

I replied by email, Frank.
Can you tell me how can I measure the number of square meters to paint, for example. I Know that the edrawings can do that, but I don't Know how.
I think you just click the surface with the measure tool and it will tell you the surface area in the bottom left corner.
How do i enable measure?

it needs to be enabled when saving the eDrawings file from Solidworks

Do you know if you can use key like "M" to measure instead?
I'm not sure, I just click on the measure tool.
@@JCADInc I understand. I use the measure tool a lot and thought it would be easier to press one button

Why is my Mass properties button greyed out on .step files?
Hi John, I'm not sure. Might have something to do with the settings when you save the files as a STEP file.

An arrow cursor doesn't rotate the view.
correct, select the rotate tool on top of the screen to rotate

I asked how to measure, not a complete lecture. You can explain this in 20 seconds, do that in the future.
Yes sir, right away sir! Anything else I can do for you, sir?
@@JCADInc That'd be all, much appreciated
