One feller in Pennsylvania, completely restored to working order, one of these, a later model and brought it to the Steam show and had it shoveling. Video is on TH-cam! Turn of the 18th century stuff!
This Thew Automatic shovel was early in Panama until the Big shovels came, then went to work at Bear Creek in the Yukon gold fields. Then moved to its current location to work on the big water ditch to provide hydroelectric generation power! No small adventure to move this thing.
What did y'all end up planting? I bet it is a grass crop of some verity, I ain't there to really feel the ground but it looks like there is a hard pan setting up under parts of that field. Next time run a shank ripper through it first. Rip then cross rip , moldboard , float drag the highs, then pulverize with a sand dolomite mix added. Broadcast seed clover at night on the next new moon. ( Helps keep the wildlife from eating all the seeds) Drag a spring cultivator over to get the clover in deep. Come spring time moldboard then anhydrous ammonia then your sweet corn and sunflower . Knee high by the fourth of July! Yee Haw cash crop.
1, I didn't notice Bob went logging with his 4 bottom plow, 2, 5th gear was just too high to pull the disc uphill, 3, the stationary John Deere H is the best 👌 🤣
The attendance of good ol' plow boys from near and far is impressive dedication to the event. I know sophisticated people do not have this much fun nor do they understand the fun you guys had. Great aerial views.
🎉🎉🎉🎉how incredibly awesome this was. I’m an oldish man of 76. Only spent a few weeks at my uncles farm in the late 50s. Have always lived in the city and lusted to be like those that farmed. Watching this plowing with beautifully still useful equipment was beyond words for myself. I’m amazed how perfectly the soil was flipped over so neatly. To have friends like this is what farm life is about…. And I think it’s that way the world over. Thank you for sharing Plow Day
Favorite fall ever . . . brand new 1206 pulling 5 - 16" bottoms. Plowed almost 1,000 acres. Kept going until the plow popped out of the ground from frost. That was almost 55 years ago. Ears are still ringing.
That drone footage showing the moving line of demarcation between the gorgeous grass stubble and the freshly turned earth is a thing of beauty. And I can't even imagine the preparation that goes into all the equipment used and the days and days and hours and hours of hand polishing those plow faces so they turn the earth so perfectly. Lol. Good for all you guys!
That was absolutely awesome and entertaining. Something I've never seen. Old tractors plowing up a field. Growing up in a small Michigan farm town north of Flint Michigan I did see farms plowed but the equipment was way newer. Mostly Ford and Farmall tractors. A few odds and end ones I can't remember.
Looks like you all had a great time. Kinda reminds me of back in my youth, when all the neighbors showed up to help with the threshing, my Mom cooked lunch for the whole crew. Good days long ago. Thanks for Sharing. 🚜
Thanks to UTUBE for letting all these folks meet over the years to make this event happen ,,, looks like was fun time had by all and memories made for a life time for folks there and those of us watching on utube. Regards J
Man Toby I'm tellin' ya I can't explain how satisfying it is to watch the earth roll up behind you! Topping it all off is the fact that it's all done with vintage well loved equipment and bunch of good friends.....it just doesn't get a whole lot better!
*- Nice rocks in the pile **20:07**.* *- Excellent big round corner stones to set hand-hewn barn-sills back in the day.* *- And the smaller ones to fill in between so the pigs and sheep can not get out of their holding pens.*
Brilliant video 💪 love all the restoration videos an engineering video's you do but my thing is working with vintage tractors and that video made my day 💪👍 on Sunday this week we are having a vintage ploughing competition so looking forward to that 👍👍
Awesome video, great job of plowing by everybody- the drone shot were really great, you are really getting good with that! Bob could really fly with his rig, and he was plowing deep!! lol Nice video
Whoever witnessed the first time that satisfying grass tilling confirming the design works must have been pretty damn happy, that never gets old to see how clean those cuts are
Awesome picture. Real men having a good time exercising old iron enjoying themselves and each other's company . Good food it could not get much better I hope you all gave the LORD thanks and prays for all things and a safe and wonderful day GOD BLESS
21:10 I LIKE the Sepiatone/black and white Conclusion.! Now where next year.? Hey SQUATCH253,... I count 2- 4 bottom, 2-3 bottom, 2- 2 bottom, and ironmans 1 bottom.? ROLL CAL.?
Great group of friends, I have friends like this, old buddy’s from Army past that drop everything to come help out with each other project. We all are blessed tho have them in our life’s.
Great! Reminds me of Old Tyme Plow Day here in southeast Pennsylvania. I never miss it with my 1940 Ford 9N and 16” one bottom. I’ve acquired a 14” Ford/Ferguson two bottom which I should have ready for 2023. It’s in April and we usually have somebody grilling burgers and hot dogs. Attendance is around 20 tractors. In past years a D2 showed up but I haven’t seen it in a couple of years. Plowing old corn stubble is a pain. I always take a small army surplus shovel along to clear coulter jams.
@ 7:35, I've never heard such a term as "the field crown", other than on a football field. anywhere around here in the midwest, it's called the "back furrow". A raised ridge left at the center of the strip of land when plowing is started from center to side is called back furrow.
They're not wrong it was an awesome picture with everyone round the Cat 20 feature and great plow day too that was fantastic. Totally loved it we dont have many of those days here in New York now days we did alot when I was a preteen until I reached my 20s
Great video, it demonstrates the old iron still capable to do the work. Simple, no electronics no hidralics no DPF...... No problems Cheers to all from Portugual.
@@squatch253 I am used to a 3 16 inch John Deere plow and 10 acres takes a while and you guys flew right thru the crawlers can move right along with a plow I can see why they were popular in big prairie fields years ago. Its nice to be loved and respected. Of course that means you're going to need a bigger farm. I'm sure one of the members out there has an algorithm that will tell you how many acres to acquire per number of plow bottoms in the group!
Looks like the day went well. Just wet enough to knock down the dust but let everything roll well. Sounds like you got to work the equipment to their limits. Other than a stall it two I didn't hear of breaking things so a very good day.
What a great day. Had a sneak peek from Kyles and Ricks channel of what was going on. Lot of old iron and lot of old plows. Can't wait for next year to see what you all will come up with.
Been waiting for your video on this. Caught the shorts from everyone else. The new D2 seemed to pull its weight pretty well. Look forward to the content on that one as well as the rest of 1113.
So what are you planting in those fields... wheat, barley, or clover maybe? That soil looks pretty good. The small farm I grew up on as a kid was a bit too sandy so we were limited on crops. We grew mostly vegetables. We had one acre fenced in with a small barn/coop for animals like pigs and chickens mostly, but also rabbits, goats, a cow once, and even a horse. We had a second acre for growing mostly vegetables like tomatoes, green beans, carrots, potatoes, peas, beats, cucumbers. We also had some rhubarb, strawberries, and blackberries. We made cheese with the extra goat's milk and canned or froze everything else. We also got salmon and s blueberries from my dad (he leased out an old 10 acre blueberry field to a larger grower and they could not run the shakes all the way to the end of the rows because of the ditches). We also had another farmer that would bring my mother venison and apples. We sold mot of the goat's milk to people that could not have cow's milk. We made pickles and jams and jellies and baked most of our bread. Anything we did not eat we would sell, but mostly the food was for our large family (my mother had 6 kids and I was the youngest) and we were poor (my dad was not, but they got divorced when I was 4). I hated farming as a child, but now I am grown up and have a messed up back... I wish I could farm. My favorite channel is the Veggie Boys. I wish that was my life.
Looks like you had some well set plows, also some great drone footage, and some Mike Less type music good job hope everyone had a good time , looks good. Dave D.
I am surprised those D2 did not get more use on farms. Compare to mostly gas tractors they are much more fuel efficient and understand they were less than $2,000.
