How are you? ✨ What do you think of our new layout? 😄 Today I talk about these 9 Nordic habits: 1. Work-Life balance 2. Cycling in any weather 3. Relaxing Sauna 4. Adapting to seasons 5. Respecting personal space 6. Silence 7. Swedish "lagom" 8. Finnish "sisu" 9. Our coffee culture
I love the idea of "sisu". right now is a very difficult time in my life with my husband facing a grim cancer diagnosis so sisu is perfect to remember.
I think these 9 routines are excellent principles to Live by. We can learn a lot from Finland and all Nordic countries. That communal workshop is such a good idea and good for your mental health. Agh coffee ❤my favourite also. I like the layout of the space like this. The finishing touch will be when you mount the TV. I love your cosy socks such a warm colour. Kuro manages to steal the show again he is adorable. Enjoy the rest of your day😊.
The more I learn about your land the more I like it. In my country many people don’t have the respect to let space. You are constantly jostled, when you are shopping, in the bus or train, even on the streets when you go for a walk - I hate it 🙈😑 And smalltalk is very stressful for me 😅 the new layout of your livingroom I think it’s the best ☺️
Although I was not born in a Nordic country, after visiting a few of them, I found that my personality aligns so much with theirs. I just discovered your channel (and subscribed); I really enjoy this style of video!
I like this layout best, and wall mounting the TV was one of the best things my late husband and I did for the comfort of our living room in our apartment condo. Love the look at Finnish life- I’m 🇨🇦, grew up in the Yukon (I now live in the south centre of BC) and it’s fun to see another northern perspective.
Beautiful, everything! Love the 3rd final layout - looks more natural and flowing. Love the Finnish culture, literally my cup of coffee, pun intended. Thank You for sharing your culture with us. I live through your eyes. 🇺🇸
I love everyone’s ideas and equally I loved yours. Everyone’s perspective on what brings peace is different. Find the layout that brings you peace, which may mean going back to your original. You have a natural sense for flow and peace. Whatever you choose its fun to explore along the way as long as you land where you should be. Not anyone else. I know you know that ❤️Just saying we support your choice
Th tv on the wall over the shelves makes so much more sense as it saves space and it doesn't feel cramped. I liked the cosy dining area between the shelves but I understand it was too far from the kitchen.
Thank you for your efforts and calm. Your videos have become part of my must-read and watch. I love the content and the background music. You almost motivate me to move to Finland. Thank you!
Here in the town where we live people walk. Some bicycle but mostly it’s walking, often with dogs. We have been thinking of putting a sauna in at our house. Very short winters for us but I love the way a sauna smells. I garden year round for life balance. I think all the ways you arrange furniture are fun. I thought the comments about the table being too far away were funny. It’s just across the room- not across the house. Rearrange to your heart’s delight. Kuro seems to enjoy the fun too. 🧡
I've just recently been to Helsinki and I loved loved loved it. I am such a fan of the nordic culture. So much so that, in the past years, I've been mostly traveling there. I know that the nordics are different countries with distinctive cultures each, but I love some of the common traits/habits that you have, such as the ones you mention in this video. Respecting personal space is one of my favourites! Not just in terms of space, but also in terms of sound. I love how quiet public means of transport are in the nordics. I live in Spain and this kind of behaviour is very rare. Here everybody speaks loudly on the bus (some even take advantage of the commuting to make their phonecalls, which really gets to my nerves 😖). I hope one day I can move to one of the nordics... In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying content like this one of yours. Thank you for sharing ☺
I live in Mexico, here people still think it is wrong for someone to ride a bicycle to work. I do it, but many people prefer to go in their ostentatious vehicle and do not respect the cyclist. Congratulations and a hug.
My daughter in law is Finnish and we have learned loads of lovely habits from her and her family. We loved Helsinki when we visited and hope to visit again very soon 🌏 Love the new layout
I like the new layout much better than the others. However, since you seem to need an extremely huge TV, which I find rather unpleasant to look at, I would suggest that you buy a projector. You would still have a huge "picture" but during the day nothing would disturb the calmness of the room❤
A projector is a great idea. I’ll keep that in mind for the future! ❤We recently downsized from a big countryside house to this small city apartment, and the large TV is something we decided to still keep from our previous home😊
I love the cold months of the year, maybe because I live in Southern Europe so we also get quite a lot of sunny days, but there's nothing like getting home from the cold and cosy up in a warm home, some candles, music, a good book or film and a nice cup of tea... heaven. What's the Finnish word for hygge / mys?
Same. I haven’t watched tv for 17 years. It amusing when I have visitors and you can see them a bit confused. Then they’ll announce…’you don’t have a tv!’😮. My sofa and chairs all face each other. It’s lovely not having them all facing a wall!😂
I understand the joy of living without a TV, it must create a different kind of peaceful atmosphere! ❤ When we recently downsized from a big countryside house to a small city apartment, we decided to keep our big TV. But it brings us lots of joy during family movie nights, etc.
Love everything here, until the point of view turn and we get to see that gigantic tv screen, overwhelming and taking all the space and attention! To me, the exact opposite of any calm concept 😮
We recently downsized from a big country house to a small city apartment, and took the big TV with us. 😅 I agree that it’s too big! But we also gives us lots of joy during family movie nights ❤️
@@calmnordicWe also have a large TV that brings us happiness when we gather to watch intentionally (usually a couple times a month). We don’t subscribe to any cable TV channels, we watch DVDs purchased secondhand or movie downloads. It makes me laugh when people are critical of a TV in the home but are constantly on their phone or tablets viewing TH-cam videos or consuming social media. All things in moderation and choose what works for you! I love the new layout ❤
😂 poor hubby , must be exhausted from all the rearranging.. but has a break for now... until the TV gets wall mounted. Good that you found what works best for you. I know the finnish culture a bit, I work in corporate for a finnish company for nearly 20 years and have a lot of finnish colleagues of course. You are so right with the small talk thing, Finnish people are not as chatty as some other Europeans😊 are very polite and love nature and sauna of course. Love your calmness and how you go about with things... and can't wait for the next round of changing things around ... in a few months 😂
You popped up today. Being Nordic American have long wanted to know how health care workers have work/life balance. Always shortages and corporate schemes to prevent time off. Office work is easy,no one dies or suffers when you have fika. Also curious about those with disability. Used to cross country ski, bike, hike like the Swede Finn I am but myasthenia gravis took strength, balance, stamina at 58. Statistically Nordic countries have similar rates to the rest of the world,so how do you ve Nordic disabled where lagom shifts sometimes hourly, sauna suddenly makes you ill? I know my asking is very American but also I am not anomaly
Very nice video. I am 57 and live in the U.S. state of Minnesota. My father always told me his parents were all Swedish and spoke Swedish but were born and raised in Kronoby Finland. I recently did a DNA test for fun. Guess what what i am half of? Fnnish! Apparently my grandparents were indeed of Finnish ancestory not Swedish and the family goes back hundreds of years in Kronoby. I have discovered cousins there. I want to learn all about Finland. Am trying to learn the language. Would love to visit one day. Looking forward to more of your videos. Take care.
I think the world needs more "Nordic" right now. I wish that more corporations would value the work/ life balance instead of insisting that absolutely everything is "urgent". I'm Canadian and the post pandemic business world seems even more insane than the pre-pandemic one. So many of us were hoping to find that pause and re set button on life but the business "leaders" just value quantity over quality. Logam seems to make much more sense, to know when enough is enough of things, of experiences -of every aspect of life. I'm thinking cats must be Nordic in outlook as yours seems perfectly happy to have a coffee break! I think my two cats are also having coffee breaks much of the time. They have far more sense than many humans! Thank you for sharing this.
Yes, the couch has come full circle! 😂 It felt like a moment in Frasier (90s sitcom, if you know?) where, in one episode, he rearranges his apartment, trying different layouts, only to realize the original layout was the best... 😅
Bonjour, je suis française et j’aime beaucoup vos vidéos. On dit chez nous que les Finlandais sont le peuple le plus heureux du monde. Est-ce que vous êtes d’accord ? Belle journée
