  • Anime games usually get a bad reputation over the past several years, and sadly it's warranted.
But Yugioh has had some really good ones in the past; the Tag Force games were really something special. Having fun gameplay, nice music, and giving development and stories to characters who didn't get that much love in the anime! Personally I would love if anime games went back to stuff like this!
Come see what I mean by that in this review!

@@animeegotists7527Honestly, I find most of the video games are this kind of welcoming.
...Mostly because Konami stopped making most of the video games around the time of the 3DS.
Even the WC and later Tag Force titles start you off easy without having you learn the Syncro Summon or "Speed Duels" until you've gotten your feet wet.
...I miss the single-player TCG Video Games.

I miss old Yu-Gi-Oh games actually having a story and feeling like some effort was put into the campaign. Nowadays, we either get a watered down recap of the anime or tutorial missions masquerading as a campaign.

As someone who knows a lot of the LORE of Tag Force. A lot was lost in translation or localization screwed up.
Mathew and Craig are brothers. However this was lost due to last names being removed for all non-main GX characters This effects a special event in Tag Force 2 involving them.
Corey doesn't speak much in the Japanese version. Localized version he was made to speak more robotically for some reason.
Jamie and Syun are top tag team dueling team (in the LORE) and they're always paired up and found together (in Tag Force 1 and an event in Tag Force 2 involving Syrus).
Tag Force 2 introduced 5 main stay girl characters for the series (Their 5Ds incarnate are not the same character) Bright, Wisteria, Kami, Cherry, and Yuma Miyata (Her last name was cut in the English version)
In the Japanese version, all Tag Force characters have special dialog when you do specific actions and give you they're own speech when "Red Hat-kun" graduates. This was removed in the English version.
Red Hat-Chan (girl version of Red Hat) was scrapped early in development in Tag Force 3. Only evidence of it existing is in Bastions ending image a mock up image with him and Red Hat-Chan is shown. Which shows it exist and was planned.
Tag Force gave a better send off to Dark Zane as Zane was screwed over hard in the anime when he came back. Original Zane, show cases Atticus was always goofy and messes around with Zane. Show cases how Zane and Atticus are friends despite being polar opposites.
Blair having 4 separate routes was interesting. (child and disguised is more of a parody route or what if she was a main stay for a while longer in disguised route) Blue uniform Blair made her best girl and actually improves her character. Also she even let's go of her crush. People tend to exaggerate her Slifer Red route. I just find that one funny cause it's obvious in that final S4 Jaden would never talk or act like that.
Tag Force actually did a proper send off to the characters (the ones considered good by the Tag Force community) and did a better job then the anime.

@@stickers1235 I did a double check. A lot of them are incorrect or blatantly wrong. Very few are actually accurate.
Majority of Obelisk Blue boys were left in Japanese. Only Rie, Wisteria (because of course extreme bias), Kami and Anca (which is inaccurate) were translated from Obelisk blue girls (he still calls Yuma Miyata The Other Yuma which is beyond dumb)
Never trust Clickclaxer01 translations. They are garbage. I had to manually retranslate from scratch cause it amazes me he has never learn from his past works being terrible and still double downs
I even redid Lara (tag force 6) quotes from scratch cause I was legit pissed what Clickclaxer01 did.

The Tagforce series are "for me at least" one of the best games in the franchise and that isn't enough to describe it. The first Tagforce cemented the legacy for what was next to come in the series, given the fact that not only you got to interact with pretty much everyone in the game "albeit from Season 1 of GX almost Season 2" but to to tag with your favorite characters of the show was something rather neat.
To this day i still have my old save file of Tagforce 1 from way back in highschool, while it's a shame that neither Tagforce 3,6 or TFS never came to the west "Well technically 3 released only for Europe for some reason" it really surprised me how both 3,6 and TFS implemented some mechanics that were just about to become implemented on future installments like Synchros on 3 although limited until it's debut on Tagforce 4, Excees "or whatever" in 6 and Pendulum in TFS.

This was so fun to watch! Especially since atm, I'm doing a challenge run of the First Tag Force game (PS2 version) with only the Starter Deck (aka, "Personal Deck") and oh boy, so far, it's been painful lol (still hella fun tho!). And I do plan on making it a somewhat long, but hopefully at least a little bit entertaining video eventually as well. I'm going to have to edit and chop parts of it like tho, and hopefully include as much of its criminally underrated soundtrack as I possibly can! (Favorite YGO VG Soundtrack along with Forbidden Memories and Duelist of the Roses). (Btw, I actually did play through most of Tag Force 1 with a Dizzy deck, and I found them a lot of fun personally. Although I never used Hot Sauce bottle as it's honestly too weak even with its intended Dizzy cards). Haven't got to play Tag Force 3 or an of them onwards yet, but in the case of 3 that's because well (*Insert any meme about money*) and I suck at figuring out emulation. Literally my only complain about early tag force is that you basically have incredibly bad deck and you opponent at least has decent staples. I know you are more smart as a player than AI but it really sucks to just grinding easy player to getting more useful cards.
Tag force in 5D era was so good that you actually have a decent deck and decent pack selection from the get go. I don't want to be OP against AI, i just don't want to play vanilla plus equip spell when my opponent has mirror force.

As someone who literally grew up with all the Tagforce games I highly suggest you play the 5Ds game(4-6)
They Have a much easier way of actually getting their own hearts and events are typically different from each other unless you are following a connected story(5Ds series arcs).
And they have better ways of showing the character as an actual member of the partner's life, most of the girls for example thinks of you as either a romantic partner, a sibling-esque figure and the males eithe rhave you as tehir best friend, an important person or minion in the times you paly with the villains.
They also have alot better 2nd Class duelists as partners like the Villains, Side-characters and othe rnamed characters since they tend to all have original stories that are unrelated to the main cast, and this extends to Alternate versions of the main casts.
Also you get to play more similarly to TF1 where you are free to pick your partner at any time with the ability to partner up to them after you reach a heart or 2 and then they would ahve a random chance of appearing at the start of the day asking if you wnat to partner up for the day

I have played a lot, A LOT of tag force 4-5. I've built pretty much any deck you could and tried all of the game original cards. Unfortunetly most of them are really bad but there were some really good ones especially frog hael.
This is a different version of the card way before it was released and it goes infinite thanks to swap frog. Frog hael is not once per turn and it could summon all frogs if you special summon it using 2 tributes, combine this with mass driver for a better frog FTK or use fishborg blaster to summon infinite synchros ( you can summon 2 swaps from hael to get a frog for discard.) You can even loop Trishula thanks to Dewloren. Never had so much fun with a card before.
Still can't believe that card has actually passed the play tests during development...

Aster's deck was too bricky and the AI was obsessed with making him summon Dogma even when he didn't need to and could have won faster without it. Or I'll never forget the time I died because he decided to put Defender in attack mode. Imagine instead if he had stuff like DPE and Denier and Fusion Destiny and his Vision Heroes in Tagforce. That's why I loved GX because they actually were actually in the same universe, the same world, with a lot of crossovers to the OGs, with basically the same lore but just expanded and build on, although at times the story gets a bit crazy, but nothing beats a teenager literally killing people in gambles lol

It's honestly surprising to see how much they gave red hat/konami-kun (that's apparently what thr japanese fans call him) characters and traits like you mentioned. But not only that, he actually got his own lore with each variation is different.
In GX he's pretty simple, just a kid that goes to duel academy
In 5D's he's an android that takes care one of the villain (the white hair guy, forgot his name) that came from the future but got seperated with him (iirc). He's a somewhat parent figure to him, which led to a lot of fanart depicting them as parent and child (i'm not too familiar with 5D's so i might get some info wrong)
In ZEXAL while not technically a tag force game, he still made his debut in the festival game. I'm not too familiar with Zexal lore so i might got some info wrong, but in this game he's an alien similiar to barian... Actually, there's some hint even that he's actually a barian in TAG FORCE special. Basically there's nore to him than meets the eye, even dark Astral was shitting his pants knowing who he actually is (but he never said it outloud). Another strange case with this one, during one of the duel it's hinted that 5D's might actually be connected to ZEXAL since one of the character recognize Konami in the past and calling him a legendary duelist iirc.
It's interesting that they give him a different take each game. I want to say something about the tag force special... But that games translation was such a dogshit one that most of it probably inaccurate.
But if there is one thing that is seems like always the same with him it's that he's a dueling maniac. He LOVES to duel, he's basically the goku of yugioh. One time he got so heated (excited) in a duel he knock his opponent unconcious in 5D's tag force, which is surprising because this variation seems to be more on the quieter side of personality. In ZEXAL he came into earth via meteor that might be his spaceship. What did he do when he arrive? He beats EVERY of ZEXAL both main AND side charactets and yes including ZEXAL Yuma. And iirc it also implied he did it in a single day too. when he beats everyone which allow him to wish for anything, what did he wish?
He wish for the duel festival to continue so that he can duel more. He's really passionate about dueling ong
And this continue to even duel links too.

    • @TheBlaze22b
      @TheBlaze22b 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Hold on. Some of that Zexal stuff is downright wrong or just false.
5ds one is correct is he an android that was sent back in time. He took care of Primo/Aporia/etc. When they were a kid in the bad 5ds timeline. Because of the timeline shenangians we can have the whole 1-6 installments of tag force on the same timeline. Since in Red Hat's Apartment in 5ds he has his GX hat.
Also he can see spirits like Luna and Jaden.
Besides being passionate about dueling Red Hat likes to sleep the most. More so than Jaden and this trait stays with him all the way up to Tag Force Special.
Fucking same that in duel links there's no reference to him besides just showing up to duel. No quotes against GX or 5ds characters nothing

I love how the protagonist keeps those traits you mentioned in the video by the time of the 5d's era.
For example, in some of the stories with team 5d's they'll comment how you eat a lot of food, or how you always sleep a lot, especially during trudge and mina's stories, where you're pretty much a freelancer policeman.
And one aspect pretty much everyone tells you, you never lock the door. Which a lot of villains take advantage of during their stories, like roman or some of the dark signers.
And people like jakob and rex tell you they'll find ways to get to your room, even if they have to bust down the door.

One notable improvement for the 5D’s games is that its much less tedious to raise the partner hearts, in fact you can do it without dueling at all.
The World Championship series of games for the NDS are also heavily story focused, specifically WC 2009 - WC 2011.

Excellent video, which does justice to the best Yu-gi-oh game series. What's really nice about these games is how much they try to correct the shortcomings of the animated series. That's why, like you, I like Misawa's story (it's cool that he's becoming this "secret hero") and Blair's (who's becoming something more than a Jaden groupie). Of the bunch, I like Tag Force 2 a little less, probably because the stories are too long. But at least these were games that gave you your money's worth, you had a bunch of hours to do to get everything, unlock all the cards or be able, for example, to team up with Sadie. And I like the way they've done the island, with the cute characters. Konami is about to re-release some of the Gameboy Advance games on Switch in Japan, so it would be cool if the first three Tag Force games were re-released in HD too.

Since the anime really popularized yugioh globally, it is very sad how we get crap like master duel now while games like duel links are good for anime fans but way too p2w. It's really sad , most people don't even know about yugioh online, the best MMORPG in the series when it comes to making your own character; you could customize their looks, the duels has cutscenes for everything just like tag force and you could give your characters dialogue lines. The game was ruined by p2w however. Hell, we can't even get field spells to cover the field like old games and it's 2024.
Tag force is the best series in yugioh gaming period, it's not even close. People may enjoy other old jrpg style yugioh games but tag force sid everything right for fans of the anime. Day by day living, you get to play through basically every thing that happens In the anime plus original tag force story content, hell you could basically romance the characters!.. the list goes on. The only game close to tag force is yugioh world championship, but the story mode is more of a afterthought in that game series. I don't even play yugioh anymore because it's dead to those who aren't still riding the anime hype or just really addicted/too far into the tcg/ocg card game. I played Master duel, eventually got bored as hell since it's just ygopro, then I played duel links and had a absolute blast. Duel links doesn't compare to tag force, but it obviously borrowed a lot of elements from the tag force series and like tag force, it does have a good emphasis on immersion by giving you a ton of anime duelist to use. They even have voice lines they say throughout the duel, you can also make them say voice lines yourself. It took almost two years for me to quit because i realized how p2w komoney made duel links, people like to argue everything is grindable but it's obviously not in a way that respects your time. You have to duel like crazy to get a CHANCE to roll lootboxes basically. It ruins the game and gives p2w players a massively unfair advantage.
We will probably never get another tag force game, it genuinely makes me very sad since like someone else said, I've literally come back to tag force year after year because it's just that damn good. We don't get these kind of high quality, immersive jrpg sims anymore. Now we get whatever junk they can slap microtransactions on. I don't know about that dawn of the battle royale game but even I was like oh hell yes when I saw it, until i saw it was a Nintendo exclusive for some reason. I doubt dawn of the battle royale is anywhere near as in depth or good as tag force, but its at least somewhat a spiritual successor, or carrier of the torch for those of us who want something even remotely close to tag forces immersion. It's so sad, really. Hopefully one day we get back to tag force, because even though they did make the dawn of battle royale game, it's not on the level that the tag force series or probably even world champion story mode was. I do love this game btw but I've played many of the better yugioh jrpgs and I can definitely say without hesitation or bias tag force is the best game series we've gotten from yugioh.
One thing you'll notice about what I've said is games now actually borrow elements of tag force to improve their games. Duel links is one, yugioh online(now a dead game) is another and I could probably find more if I cared to look. It just shows how good tag force was in it's formula.
Edit: if anyone googlea yugioh online, make sure you're looking at the one that has character models that look like tag force, not the other yugioh online I never even played lol. The ones with character models like tag force basically got it's entire dna from the tag force series and was truly a great game ahead of it's time ruined by typical komoney greed

Whenever I play Tag Force, the first thing I do is go to the settings and adjust the game according to my preferences. In this case, the tutorial can be skipped by turning it off in the options menu. Normally, the first week consists of tutorial classes, but if you disable the tutorial, the characters will just talk about random things in class. By the way, you can replay the entire first week of classes three times. After each class, the professor will give you water support cards for your structure deck. Playing through the first week three times allows you to get three copies of those cards, giving you a better and more decent deck at the start.

I love the Tag Force games so much. The 5Ds games were pretty good. The one that introduced XYZ was kinda meh. Tag Force Arc V Special was something else entirely. Not sure if there is an official translation but i had downloaded a fan translation...and it is definitely something. Joey and Tristen constantly make Yugioh Abridged references, Odion is obsessed with Gummy Bears for some reason, if you win with Yugi as your partner, he will say things like, " When you believe in the heart of the cards, YOU FUCKING WIN!" or my personal favorite is a guy, cant remember his name off the top of my head, but everytime is Destiny Draws, he will scream "There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who pee in the shower and those who are fucking liars."

I'm curious if you've ever seen / played GX Duel Academy on the old GBA cause that's imo one of the best renditions of GX at least. Aside from being a bit tedious, it covers most of the story diligently and you are your own character, you can grind up for your decks, you can take exams that determine your dorm after the start in Slifer, you can become "King Of Games" with some work etc.

Tag Force 5 solidified ygo as a game I would enjoy til the end of time, even if I haven't actually played a game of yugioh in years. Got max hearts for everyone and actually got me to buy the DVD Box Set for both 5ds and Zexal a decade+ ago. Pulling cards in the shop was so fun and will forever be grateful that there's a % for how many cards in a set you already own. There's morning, evening and night events. Leo has so much more screen time in that as well since I can actually just choose to meet up with him and I do. I actually learned how to build a deck from that and that game gave me the confidence to go on Dueling Network and play some games online. MD has no soul even with the archetype story mode

@@animeegotists7527 As for your questions on which route is my favorite and favorite tag partner? I'd say Obelisk Blue Blair personally, I don't get why everyone hates on Blair so much. Sure, she's very one track minded on being with the one she loves but she was willing to learn to duel to hopefully be worthy of said person. It's somewhat respectable to me.

Tag Force 4, 5 and 6 weren't as good for me, but still the Tag Force series as a whole (except you Special, you kind of suck) are someof the best this franchise has to offer and I love it.

As much as I appreciate Duel Links and Master Duel for their nice visuals and banging soundtracks, I miss the old era of Yugioh video games that inserted you into the anime storylines. Lol didnt expect to see tag force after all this years. I played from GX tag force 1 to 5ds Tag force 6. Just in case you are interested but got intimidated by jp language on later title, remember fanslation exist complete with voice over absent in other version except JP. Kudos to the fan localizer
That aside i love MC grow from one of underated and somehow avoided person in early GX tag force into giga chad complete with style and custom duel disk in 5 DS tag force who rizz every female character including the side chara (yep they had story too altho mostly untranslated in fan patch).
