Many of the 'first 100,000' (volunteers - Kitchener's Blues) trained in old dark blue uniforms until they were supplied the proper kit. I would recommend the book 'The First Hundred Thousand' by Ian Hay. First published 1917. Its pretty funny in places.
Hello! We use a range of reproduction items and original kit. For example our webbing is from What Price Glory, an online site, the weaponry and smaller items are original pieces.
@@thehistoryboys264 Scottish uniforms, especially for Highland units, were different, with a bonnet and sometimes a kilt. Scottish officers also had a somewhat different sleeve rank insignia.
What would I need to buy to pull off the volunteer reserves uniform? I have a cap, Webley revolver non- firing replica and a trench whistle. Can I use any of these and what else do I need and where can I get it from that isn't too expensive?

The blue uniforms were made of serge material. Later a large number of them were shipped to Germany as clothing for British POWs.

Would irish and ulster regiments be issued the same things? I know they had the different cap badges but I mean in terms of uniform and kit.
Yes pretty much!
@@thehistoryboys264 Thanks!

Excuse me, do you know where I can get a uniform like that?

Very similar to the American doughboy attire. Interesting
🤦🏼♂️
The American one was less functional, with a stiff standing collar that was rather uncomfortable.
