    My great grandfather was a Hungarian soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army. Born in 1873, Imre Csibertics completed the required military service as a one-year volunteer around 1905. at the 17th Army Infantry Regiment in Székesfehérvár. He then became a reserve lieutenant, but was retired "after performing his duties, without retaining his rank, at his own request." He was reactivated in the war as a uprising lieutenant, and from February 1915 he was a lieutenant at the 21st Infantry Regiment in Cluj. In May 1918 he was promoted to an uprising captain. He received the Bronze Military Medal of Merit in July, when the 13 / III. he was subordinated to an uprising battalion.

    When I was a kid in the 1960s my mother was an antique dealer. We used to go to this place where she bought stuff for resale. It was a gigantic warehouse type building that was crammed full of almost anything you could imagine: plates, furniture, books, etc. The owner would travel to Europe and buy large crates of stuff. I used to walk around while my mother was shopping. In the far corner of the place was where the unusual stuff was that most people had no interest in. I recall finding a large crate, maybe 10 feet long and 5 feet high just full of helmets. I distinctly remember a huge (to me) WW1 German stahlhelm in there that I wanted but my mother wouldn't buy it. If only she had!

    19:26 Actually the amount of head wounds increased, this perplexed the top brass until it was quickly understood that the reason the head injuries were increasing was because previously fatal wounds were being reduced to survivable injuries. It's very similar to the case of WW2 Aeroplanes being up armoured on the places where returning planes had less damage, as it was clear that the reason they were returning was because they were not damaged on the vulnerable areas. Just something interesting to point out.

    Talking about the piping on the uniforms. It’s really interesting how it changes throughout the years during the previous wars before WW1. I do Civil War reenacting and Red Represents Artillery, Blue For Infantry, Yellow for Cavalry, Black for Militia and Infantry. And I have a Blue Hat cord for my English Import Slouch hat to represent infantry

    • @BobGeanis

      Yeah oddly enough after the civil war in the late 1880s the US Army changed the infantry to white and cavalry to yellow. Unsure when it was reverted

      @zacscurlockshobbies2133 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BobGeanis I believe was around the 1880s yes. Because it seems like in almost all the wars in the 1870s-1890s only minor things were changed in the US Army uniforms. Like the blue tunics and brown trousers of the 1890s and the famous yellow handkerchiefs of the cavalry especially during the Span-Am War

    History Secrets, secretly dropped this video and surprised me. I like these old uniforms, have my grandpa's wwll uniform, and the wool it is made from feels like it would be scratchy and hot. Thanks for taking one for the team and getting all kitted out for us, know you were burning up, especially with the wool wrap around your legs. I hope now that the weather is nice, you will put out more video's. You do such a good job editing everything together. I like watching you restore everything, you make everything look correct, . I hope you get an old wwll vehicle to restore, it would be great with the collection of other stuff you have. The jeeps are actually not that expensive to restore if you get one with a good frame, and decent body. They sell parts that are NOS in the UK, and the US, plus almost any new part you might need. I'm restoring a 54 m38a1 that was never road titled, so it is pretty solid, and the 24 volt wiring and fording parts are still intact. I have to sand it down, because the guy who bought it from the governot auction painted the exterior a dark burgundy. Thankfully the original olive drab inside and under the hood wasn't painted. They left thousands everywhere they fought, and they are very simple to work on, would be great to see you get one to restore for the channel. Thanks for the video, G-d bless.

    My great grandfather fought in world war 1.
    He lived in 'Elsass Lothringen' and was force recruited by the germans.
    He had two horses, the big ones. 'Ardenner' amd for the german army he was used to deliver food to the front.
    Later, during the battle of verdun, he was send with supplies to one of the forts, when he arrived, the fort was already taken by the french army.
    They, than recruited him to do the same job, just in a french uniform.
    During the war now he switched side nearly dayli and he had afrench helmet, german uniform and frensh shoes.
    He never used a weapon because he refused to kill people. And later, for him it was not important which side was inside the forts. He delivered food for the hungry soldiers, and both sides accepted his role and he was not attacked by any side. He was called the 'Wasserträger' by the germans and like this, he survived ww1 without killing anyone.

    The only direct family members i am aware of who fought in the first world war were two of my great grandfather's one was an Italian immigrant who was drafted in the army and the other of German decent, served in the US Navy but he enlisted on the 1 October, 1918. Literally a month before the war ended. So not sure if he even saw any action at all. And then I had a great uncle who fought in the Italian army and a few of one of my great grandmother's cousins in the Austro-Hungarian army. But I think it would be cool to find more ancestors who fought in the first world war.
