When you consider the cost of the camera and pro-level lenses, the GH5 comes in well less than half the cost and for a church shooting in predominantly controlled situations, the expense doesn't make sense to me personally.
Very reasonable take, Darren. I love my GH5. I've been shooting Panasonic for years. The stabilization of the GH5 is unmatched. The dynamic range, autofocus, sensor size, and built-in picture profiles/codecs in the Sony are all superior - so for me, that was enough to make the leap.
@@prochurchtools yeah, if I was shooting in diverse conditions the value proposition may be different. It's certainly a better camera for many use cases.

Yo Brady! Love your content! Do you have any recommendations for other Christian TH-cam creators? It would be awesome to hear about who inspires you or who you see as up and coming creators.
Hi Brady. Another great video! Thank you for your continued work on behalf of small churches. I always appreciate your support and sensible solutions for the smaller church. Hopefully 2021 will see a rise in our congregation's fortunes and we can make Pro Church Tools a part of our new missions. Have a great Christmas by the Falls! Bill, the geriatric fossil.
Bro, this was an amazing video. I'm new to this camera stuff but you held my attention while educating me on.a subject that could be very complicated. Thank you!
They really disappointed me this year. They've got a great line of lenses though with their new RF mount. They'll make the fixes needed with their mirrorless cameras and make a strong comeback I'm sure.
My favorite quote about this camera is from Gerald Undone: "The Sony A7SIII has more dynamic range at over 100,000 ISO than the EOS R5 does at base ISO"
Hey Brady! Love what you do! Thank you for all the hard work. Would you recommend the Sony A7C for live streaming over the BMPC4K? (The A7Siii is not something we can reach for just yet)
Check out these two videos (plugging this camera into these setups is pretty straightforward): 1. th-cam.com/video/kHW9KLs8DoA/w-d-xo.html 2. th-cam.com/video/LrZ7WFGHaLg/w-d-xo.html
Considering getting this, but how would you compare this to a Sony PXW-Z90V 4k HDR XDCAM for pure video use for a church service? I know several churches that use the Z90V, and you can purchase an entire television setup with tripod, zoom control, and on camera monitor for the same price as the a7s3 body alone. Thoughts?
How out of balance does your gimbal get when you alter the zoom on your 24-105 lens? I'm a big fan of the older E mount APS-C 18-105 because the lens barrel doesn't extend at all while zooming so the center of gravity doesn't change significantly which keeps my gimbal balanced. The other nice thing about the 18-105 is that the zoom ring is electronic which means I don't have to worry about hitting the stops if I use a follow focus motor to turn the ring. I've been waiting for a full frame zoom with similar features but I'm not sure the 24-105 is it. What's your take? Thanks.
As for balance, that's one thing I love about the new DJI RS2, the balance algorithm has been refined and the motors are stronger. So even when I zoom, it still shows the motors in the "green" indicator which means they're not overloaded.
For live streaming/recording your services? I'd check this out (though the A7S III would be great for this application also): th-cam.com/video/fQYeRBJl-dY/w-d-xo.html
Hey Brady, I just had a production company recommend the JVC GY-HM250 to us as a church. Do you have any thoughts on this camera vs the Blackmagic or Sony A7S III?
What lens would you recommend for shooting from a tripod, about 100 ft away from stage, tracking the pastor up close for our livestream messages and worship team wide shot from back of the room?
at that distance your tripod will be more important (and probably more expensive) than your lens choice if you're dead set on tracking the pastor up close. What camera are you shooting on?
The A7SIII is a terrific camera for sure. Several networks are using this as a B-cam shooting SLOG3 right alongside the FS7, FX9, and FX6 doing "Film Style" production. The XLR adaptor is a gamechanger for DSLR cameras. However, be aware that this is NOT a great camera for multicamera production that most churches have been forced into through COVID. For most churches you will need long runs of SDI cable to get from your worship room to your switchpoint. We have our tech both in the same room and our runs for 7 cameras is still 185 feet to the nearest camera. HDMI doesn't cut it for that long a run. You can convert HDMI to SDI using a Blackmagic converter but that proves difficult to maintain a tidy set up especially if the camera is going to have any hand-held activity. GOSH BRADY, DO YOU THINK THE A7SIII GRAPHIC IS LARGE ENOUGH? It doesn't cover your face yet. :
I'm with you on this, Richard. And this is why it's important, when you're in the market for a camera, to know what you need it for. The classic adage is finding "the right tool for the job." So as an example, if your number one priority is live streaming, I wouldn't go with this camera. In that case, I'd start here: th-cam.com/video/fQYeRBJl-dY/w-d-xo.html. But what's great about the A7S III is that it *can* do everything. So going back to "the right tool for the job" idea, in churches we're often wearing so many different hats, engaged in so many different projects, the "right tool for the job" might be a different camera every other project - which is why I landed on the A7S III. Because it could be your go-to camera for virtually any project.
@@prochurchtools Thank you. Some people were pushing that way but I had doubts about the quality as well. Thanks for the confirmation. I have questions about streaming but I'll watch some more of your videos first! Thank you for the time you take to put these videos together. Really helpful!
Is this camera user friendly? We're looking for an option to use with nonprofessional camera personnel. We're a small church that has been using my old Sony video camera. Needless to say, the quality is not the best. Can you recommend an option or a video you've previously made?
I think Sony has made some big strides with their new menu system that makes this camera more user-friendly. I still think the Blackmagic cameras' UI is the best. I'd check out this video on those cameras (they're also more affordable): th-cam.com/video/fQYeRBJl-dY/w-d-xo.html

This is issue: we are setting up a livestream setup for our church and the only place that we can set up the cameras is on the back of the room (we already have some camcorders running from there and it the position is fine) our main problem is the image quality that we get. we decided to upgrade so we bought 2 Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras now I´m wondering what would be a good lens for this task since the stage is about 20 - 30 meters away from the cameras.

I was so excited for it. The overheating is a non-starter for me. But beyond that, the lack of CLOG2, lesser dynamic range compared to the A7S III, the codecs that are difficult to edit, and the expensive storage media are other reasons it isn’t in the same league as the A7S III despite the similar price.
