Man this game was my childhood. I remember back when I was either 8, 9 or 10 years old and I would go with my parents and sister to the Arcade and play Gauntlet Legends playing as either the Valykrie or Warrior while my sister plays as either the Elf or Wizard and we slay hordes of orcs, vampires, mummies and lizard people. Those were the days. It's a damn shame that there hasn't been another Gauntlet game similar to this one for the PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.
i have been testing PS1 port and mostly N64 port for this game. i have noticed some differences in terms of the Bonus Characters and Secret Rooms. the N64 port theres 5 Bonus Characters Minotaur, Falconess, Tigress, Jackal and Sumner. you can change there colors (red, blue, green and yellow). The Sumner for whatever reason keeps his native color during gameplay but the color gameplay Stats display does changes. the PS1 port theres 4 Bonus Characters (The Sumner not included) Minotaur, Jackal, Falconess and Tigress. you cannot change there colors but appear with multiple colors. the Secret Rooms order to unlock the Bonus Characters are different. the N64 order is Minotaur (Mountain Cliff), Falconess (Castle Treasury), Tigress (Town Fields), Jackal (Ice Camp) and The Sumner (Battle Trenches). the PS1 order is Minotaur (Mountain Cliff), Jackal (Castle Treasury), Falconess (Town Fields), Ice Camp (part 2) for whatever reason you only collect yellow coins while it doesnt unlock anything (unless someone knows the purpose of the coins reply if you want) and Tigress (Battle Trenches). for those that will read this hopefully this will be helpful for who ever.
@@fabz3048 To be honest with what i have seen from the Dreamcast version is very similar from the Arcade version. So the secrets content seems to be exclusive to N64 and PS1.
Glad I finally got my hands on a Dreamcast version recently. I've been playing the hell out of it almost daily for the past two weeks. Back in the day Dark Legacy on PS2 was my introduction to this game, and I played the hell out of it in high school. I had the N64 version a couple of years ago, but never really was a N64 guy and sold my entire collection a few years back. Im really digging the Dreamcast version, especially how good it looks in VGA mode on a computer monitor. It's a shame that this video is almost 5 years old and has so little views. One of the greatest games of all time in my honest opinion. It is defiantly on of the top games that comes to mind that has brought the most fun and joy in gaming sessions throughout my life.
Shame that the PS1 version does not feature proper close-combat sword moves ! All it does is same movement as the sword throwing but the weapon stand still in the hand. While in N64 and Dreamcast version there are beat'em all combo that are really sweet
I'm playing this game on the Dreamcast and I feel like almost everything is equal to the arcade version because of the gameplay, the music, and the visuals.
I have to give it to the N64 version being the overall best. - Items can be stockpiled - You can buy stat upgrades and health - Virtually no load times - 4 players (with an Expansion Pak) What it lacks in resolution and cutscenes, it more than makes up for in everything else.
"Together they are gauntlet legends", I don't know, seems like lazy ass writing. Loved the arcade port of this. Keep waiting for Arcade1Up to release a cabinet.
I prefer the Sega Dreamcast version of this game, since I have this game for the Sega Dreamcast. And I can play with four of my friends with this game. Plus it have so many fun levels that you can gain your characters to level up to level 99, and still save your leveled up characters. I leveled up all my favorite characters on my Sega Dreamcast, and still play my favorite powered up characters on there too. Dreamcast is the winner for me. Played the PlayStation 1 version of it.
The reason why the Elf didn't appeared and was replaced by an archer, it is because something about sexually ambiguous something according to the Gauntlet developers.
Dreamcast easily crushes N64. Gauntlet Legends kicks so much ass. I was never a Guild Wars, WoW or whatever dorks play these days online, but get me three no-lifers and pop in GL for the Dreamcast for the ultimate medieval fantasy smackdown.
Gauntlet Dark Legacy is the better port. It’s pretty much the same game just not played in the same order. The best port of it is on the OG Xbox and sadly is not on their BC list for the modern consoles. The music is great as well. Highly recommended.
I'd like to ask a question regarding how you record your games. You said you'd be recording the PS1 version on the PS3. Does the PS1 version perform any differently on the PS3? It's been awhile, but I remember getting a PS3 on launch, with the PS1 and PS2 emulation and they had a bunch of options to make games look better as well as faster loading times. Is any of that being used on the PS1 version?
Wow dreamcast seemed to be the best dinished product as i only owned the Playstation & i am disappointed with the Nintendo 64 as both dreamcast & Playstation had a distant lead on almost every angle on this port.
Doing a retrospective on the main gauntlet games (ignoring the stupid/obscure ones like Third Encounter, the Atari Lynx game, etc.). I was planning on showing off Legends with the PS1 version, but haven't ordered a copy yet (my experience with Legends is limited to an arcade machine I played on a few times. I grew up on Dark Legacy). Think the PS1 version is good enough to actually be a worthwhile demonstration of the game? I feel guilty just emulating the arcade version and I don't own a Dreamcast. The N64 version is expensive and requires the expansion pak and I don't own one)
PS1 version is very very limited and cut back, if you can't get your hands on the N64 version I would recommend the dreamcast version, and honestly you shouldn't feel guilty emulating the arcade version since that's really the only way to play it without owning the machine. Dreamcast, N64 and Arcade are the best representatives of legends. PS1 version is the most stripped down version of it imo, it's realllllly barebones.
I prefer recording consoles when possible over any kind of emulation. I am planning on showing the arcade version to an extent but then really mostly showing a port. I'll have to consider my options. Thanks for the feedback. Great video by the way! Excellent comparison!
Expansion pack really helps smooth things out with the extra memory boost, but it handles just fine without it, it's not required to play that port, it bumps the resolution and smooths things out a bit but it's not unplayable by any means. also i'm glad to help and glad you enjoyed the vid good luck on yours! :)
I bought this game today on the N64, now the quest is to find 3 friends that wanna play the whole weekend
Do you have the expansion pak tho?

Definitely Dreamcast, but the N64 version holds a special place in my heart!
funny, I discarded the N64 version once i got the dreamcast version
I only played N64. This was and still is hands down my favorite N64 game ever.
N64 version ftw!
Since I finally got my hands on the PS1 version it's time to do this proper! I hope you enjoy!
Dreamcast is the best version overall for gameplay, but the N64 had the best sound and music.

What about the dreamcast did you try it

1st best: Dreamcast
2nd best: N64
worst: PS1
We need a Gauntlet Legends Remaster.
Who's we? YOU need it I dont need it and it'll never happen 🤣
@@GMOTP5738 well I need it too
Gauntlet Dark Legacy is kind of that.
it is on steam

I once possessed the N64 version, but now I have the GameCube version of Dark Legacy.
Keep it the price if it has risen greatly.
Thanks for the good ol' nostalgia trip!

Playing this on the Dreamcast with arcade stick 😎👍
I see you're a man of culture as well...
Kinda wish that Warner would just give us this and Dark Legacy on Steam or the Switch's successor
The reason why the Elf didn't appeared and was replaced by an archer, it is because something about sexually ambiguous something according to the Gauntlet developers.
The 64 graphics look like a blurry cluster fuck.
I have only seen the ps1 version local but the graphics looks great on both b64 and dreamcast looks awsome
i have this for ps1 & dreamcast. i prefer the dreamcast

no, theyre all the same. you can make the game look better on an emulator if your pc can handle it
Dreamcast was such a sick console... Why did Sega have to screw things up with the Saturn, Sega CD and Sega 32x???
N64 for me. Soundtrack and load times trump the better graphics of dreamcast. Ps1 just falls flat here.
Thank you
wow the PS1 and it's texture warping..! N64 much better.. Of course DC is best but that was a much more powerful console than both of them.
Wow dreamcast seemed to be the best dinished product as i only owned the Playstation & i am disappointed with the Nintendo 64 as both dreamcast & Playstation had a distant lead on almost every angle on this port.

I think it bumps the resolution on the N64 version but not sure on that but, either way it does help.
Dreamcast wins.

Dreamcas,psx and nn64
I prefer the PS1 version.
Me 2
Me too, but I like them all
DreamCast>>>>>>>>>>> N64>>PS1
4 players é a melhor coisa
Dreamcast
ドリームキャストだわ、アーケードでやってたの。
PS1 es la mejor versión 👌🏼
N64 takes the top spot on this one while PS1 is the last spot
You gotta be kidding, the Dreamcast obliterates the N64 port. Not even close
Dreamcast was the best port and I always loved the BGM.
Yeah, the Dreamcast port is more faithful to the arcade
n64 forever and eva God fucking damn
Dreamcast an playstation
