Well, it seems he composes the themes and general melodies for the orchestral parts, records them in instrumental demos, and then consults Pip Williams about how to arrange them for an orchestra and a choir. Pip does enough work regarding this that he could be called a "7th bandmember," for example in this one he created the horror-like soundscape in the start of the 3rd part behind Floor's haunting vocals (the red scene) and there was a lot for him to do in the 4th part too. Pip also wrote the orchestral middle part in Ghost Love Score, mostly of course he's doing just arrangements and adjustments regarding the orchestral production in close cooperation with Tuomas.
Really great reaction. Love watching the emotions you went through during this performance. I've watched more than 100 reactions to this song and go through those emotions each and every time, including tears. Tuomas is a once in a lifetime pure musical genius. I often wonder how someone who is blessed, or cursed, with his amazing creativity for music can turn it all off to have a good night's sleep. The classical master composer, Gustav Mahler, once said his creative juices were never at rest and very often it was a burden to bare. Wonder if Tuomas has to deal with that. I consider both men to be legendary titans in the musical composition world. Thanks for doing this performance justice in your reaction. Ron
Hi Ron, thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I can understand why this was an important one to react to. It is really out of this world and it's hard to Fathom how Tuomas is so talented, to say the least. Cheers Ron, see you in the next one. 😃🤘
When you read the lyrics you will understand the different vocal aspects. Floor was singing from a universal perspective. She was telling us how our planet and life evolved during the early stages. Then when she started to properly sing she was seeing the Earth as a garden that we humans needed to tend to and care for. The grunting section starts the section called "Toolmakers". This was when humans evolved and began to use tools and to hunt. The ending is a statement on the future. See final chorus below. Hello Thomas I can feel for you. I get tears in my eyes every time during the intro and at the end. The song is a masterpiece, simply epic. It is in no way inferior to great classical works. In my opinion Tuomas Holopainen is the Mozart of rock / metal. Go on with your channel, Greetings from Germany
Danke schoen Der! I agree, it is hard to find the right words to describe. I want more people to hear this song and be inspired by it. Tuomas is a metal Mozart indeed. Thanks and stay safe! :)

I can see that it does a lot with you too, but there is no other way with Nightwish. Keep up the good work👍🇳🇱 ....and yes, “ this is the most beautiful thing you ever seen “
It's easier to hear in the studio version but when it gets to the end the 'we are here' starts with just the band and gains more and more voices with each iteration until the final one sounds like the whole of humanity crying into the void to not be forgotten. I literally cant not cry when I hear it.

Oh dude, "The Poet and the Pendulum" is going to melt your brain (and you'll probably need tissues at some point, I know I will because watching you get emotional in turn makes ME emotional, and I've been listening to this band for... ugh, way too many years to admit to it in public). Also, how is it possible that a song this long seems to be so short?
love the sound of those welsh pipes that troy can play very well and the layers of colors Finnish heavy metal infused with symphonic elements well done again top notch performance rhythm section that drummer the beat doesn't get away from that guy such a wizard kinda reminds me of the female drummer Luanna Dametto wizard for the Brazilian death metal band from Sao Paulo band called Crypta and their sophomore effort shades of sorrow
No, you're right Thomas, Tuomas writes it all, lyrics in his second language too, he is a genius. Ioa Kouts has done a brilliant job with the lyrics in here, allow me to submit my take on it which will likely be a parallel in many places. I think like you, a great deal of us were and are moved by this work, thanks for the reaction. In three bits as YT won't take it in one go!
Wonderful reaction! Yes, prof. Dawkins recorded especially for nightwish, if you watch the version from Wembley, you can see prof.Dawkins at the end of the greatest show. Hi thomas, 4 times i watched your reaction to this epic song and i did not know how to comment. I feel that it is not enough but i still don 't know so hear it is; great reaction to an epic song, performed by an epic band. Thanks😊
Hey there! Thank you very much. That makes me so happy that you enjoyed this and watched it multiple times. It's such an unbelievable song and performance. 😀🤘

Hello Thomas
I can feel for you.
🤘🤘❤🤘🤘😁✌🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic!!!! Congratulations on the milestone!! Cheers from Northern California!!!!! Stay safe and well!!!
Thank you Ian! Best wishes from your pals up here in BC. Take care dude. :)
Thomas, this is the best song Nightwish has written / played. No matter how many times I have listened / seen it, it takes you to a whole other level. I can see that it does a lot with you too, but there is no other way with Nightwish. Keep up the good work👍🇳🇱
....and yes, “ this is the most beautiful thing you ever seen “
Thanks CJ! Yeah this will be hard to beat in my eyes but excited to explore more.
Awesome reaction. Can’t wait to hear the poet and the pendulum , cheers !!
Thank you! 😀
from the same concert (tampere 2015): "sleeping sun" and "weak fantasy"
It's easier to hear in the studio version but when it gets to the end the 'we are here' starts with just the band and gains more and more voices with each iteration until the final one sounds like the whole of humanity crying into the void to not be forgotten. I literally cant not cry when I hear it.
it´s nice to see how you enjoy of this song!! I´ve heard this maybe 300 times and still love it! and this is not just a song this is a masterpiece of music!!Take care and be safe;and greetings from Nightwishland!
Kiitos Rauno! Yes this masterpiece demands to be listened to many times. So so amazing! Thank you and stay safe. :)
Islay Single malts! love them (laphroaigs and lagavulins). and a great reaction to one of the best pieces of contemporary music ever. thank you.
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it, :)
Great reaction. Glad you stayed to the end. It is a ver deep song. The voice overs make you think. The music takes you on a journey. The vocals tell a great evolution story. The We Were Here ending is so powerful bringing me to tears. Glad to see your reaction.
Thanks a lot Paul! So glad you enjoyed it. Yeah the combination of the voice over, the music and the performance is really so special. Thanks for watching. 😀
Oh dude, "The Poet and the Pendulum" is going to melt your brain (and you'll probably need tissues at some point, I know I will because watching you get emotional in turn makes ME emotional, and I've been listening to this band for... ugh, way too many years to admit to it in public).
Also, how is it possible that a song this long seems to be so short?
haha thank you for experiencing this with me. I'm excited to hear that one. Yes, it was the fastest 21 minutes ever
I've watched so many reactions to TGSOE; yours is absolutely the best. Genuinely moving, and much like how I reacted myself the first time
Thank you kindly! Glad you related with the experience. 😄
11:47 can't wait for you to see the end if you're so happy with this bit. Loved your reaction to Marco and Floor together.
The expressions on your face are just exquisite. One of the best reactions to this masterpiece I’ve seen. 🎇🎆💜💜
Thanks so much! 😊
Mate , your officialy a fan now😃 and you can listen to this a 1000 times and it wont bore you.
Yeah I've listened to it like 10 times already
Top reaction! Emotions at watch and listen to this giant band! Go on man nice watching you!
Thank you very much!
Takes your breath away doesn’t it? It’s so beautiful it makes my heart ache! Keep rockin’ it out! ❤️🤘🏻
Absolutely! So powerful it hurts. Keep rocking out too, Margaret! 😃🤘
I think at you like that fantastic song!!
lets try this again
Hi Thomas Pearson
thank you for reacting to this song, gretings from Denmark
My pleasure Jesper! Thanks for watching. Best wishes from Canada.
love the sound of those welsh pipes that troy can play very well and the layers of colors Finnish heavy metal infused with symphonic elements well done again top notch performance rhythm section that drummer the beat doesn't get away from that guy such a wizard kinda reminds me of the female drummer Luanna Dametto wizard for the Brazilian death metal band from Sao Paulo band called Crypta and their sophomore effort shades of sorrow
Laphroaig! You are clearly a man of taste and culture.
Haha thank you! Cheers 🥃🤘
What more can be said. This truly was the greatest show on earth. Nuff said. Thanks for doing this one, incredibly special.
Cheers Mark! :)
comment added before your reaction even starts up - I think you are going to LOVE this.
You may or may not be correct. 😉
Great reaction! 💪 Actually Richard Dawkins was on stage with them at Wembley Arena show after The Greatest Show on Earth song. 😀✌️
Wonderful reaction! Yes, prof. Dawkins recorded especially for nightwish, if you watch the version from Wembley, you can see prof.Dawkins at the end of the greatest show. You probably have to look at this a couple of times to see and hear everything!
Keep on reacting to Nightwish, greetings from the Netherlands 🙂
Thanks Anita! Can't wait to see the Wembley version too. :)
This is the soundtrack of the evolution of life
I think that Floor was the embodiment of Gaia, Mother Earth. And yes, Marko was an early hominid.
Indeed, to both!!! LOL (re: Marko)
Ah that makes sense!
