Fishing Republic has closed in Barnsley Carl. Worsbrough Res was the silvers venue in the1960’s and 70’s. Top anglers always attended the matches Alan Scotthorne Tommy Pickering Denis White Keith Hobson Dick Clegg all were regulars it was the home of the Barnsley Blacks. Now carp have been introduced and it’s quite different now, but still stuffed with bream roach skimmers and hybrids. A truly lovely fishery.
@@davidsmith2663 sounded good even back then and there are some cracking bream never had any roach out as I love the carp to much 😂
@ Back in the day double hooking was allowed and many times two fish were caught on one line. They had big matches on then and big names attended. I remember watching Kevin Ashurst fishing the waggler a non true genius. He took out a float peacock waggler shotted it up to the weight he wanted and cast it in. He then bit off some of the quill to cock it how he wanted. Once the shot was in place that was it he wouldn’t add more he doctored the quill to suit his shotting. Bags and bags of silvers were caught mainly on the waggler and long casts on the feeder was not required. I would imagine money for upkeep could have resulted in the demise until they decided that commercial style fishing might work and so it’s proved. It is still a popular fishery and l would suspect it will get better. Barnsley anglers love Worsbrough Res and many from Sheffield too.

What a fantastic video it's great for the first time visitors to fish knowing where to park is a bonus im thinking of getting the barnsley book in 2025 I'm a leeds book holder so barnsley would be a great book to have will you do other barnsley waters where to park and best pegs cheers mate
