I remember a shoot interview with Luna, she said that someone (she gave the name, but I don’t remember it) told her that if Sable got hurt in that strap match, she’s fired (she said that with who said it, she knew it was coming from Vince. When the match was over and Luna got backstage, everything was quiet and nobody talked to her. When Sable got backstage, everyone erupted with clapping and congratulating her. Luna then said she went into a corner and cried. When she was crying, Owen Hart came over to her, told her she had a good match, and sat with her when she cried.
Damn. I know Luna had a reputation for being pretty hard to work with at times, but that sounds absurdly harsh. Good on Owen to be the one decent person around her.
Stories like this are why I'm glad Vince McMahon will never be head of WWE again. Absolutely despicable behavior from him, and the fact he gaslit the rest of the roster into thinking that way is even more disgusting.
This is one of the reasons I loved the Rumble PPV back in the day. Because so many wrestlers were booked on the Rumble (unless they did double booking), there was bound to be one or two "Huh? That on PPV? Okay..." matches on the show lol
Sunny was a missed opportunity. She was starting to have a problem by 1998, they could have capitalized her talent by getting her on a major storyline, so that she could avoid being a mess behind-the-scenes. Imagine her entering a major feud with Sable during that time. That could have been gold.
I'd have to disagree with the Chyna-Ivory bout. I believe that last move by Chyna was to sell her neck injury and when I first saw it as a kid I felt the severity of the moment
But that's the problem! Who in their right mind would wrestle with a severe neck injury only for it to then become worse? Imagine that in literally any other sport. It's not realistic. It's dumb!
1989 Royal Rumble features the Super Pose Down between Rick Rude and Ultimate Warrior. I'm not sure it's a "match", but it's a contest of some sort cause Mean Gene explains the rules and how a winner is chosen.
1989 Royal Rumbles also features an odd match between King Haku and the returning Harley Race seeking to reclaim his crown. Both wrestlers perform as heels as Bobby Heenan on the outside keeps switching his allegiance based on who appears to be winning in the match. The crowd is interested, but also downright confused as to how they're supposed to react to any of it.
@@EvaFull Yes, the Super Pose Down. I mentioned it in another comment. Not really a match per se, but an official contest of sorts, cause there was rules and Warrior was declared the winner.
I feel like i need to apologize, as Bray and LA are two of my favorite wrestlers and I love Mountain Dew: Pitch Black and am a fan of that goofy black light glowy aesthetic, I feel like they specifically made that match for me. If it's any consolation I had fun with it.
I got to see Royal Rumble 2023 in person in San Antonio and yes, a lot of us were a bit thrown off by it, but in my opinion it was a great first match back, lot of amazement to see. I’m glad I got to see Bray in person before his passing. RIP 🙏🏻
So I'm rewatching the attitude era and the minis were featured heavily on WWE at the end of 97 and 98. It's not surprising that this match happened with context. They were using Sunny as guest announcer for the minis at the time so it made sense for her to be involved. And the story was that Jerry Lawler hated Max Mini because Max sat on The King's lap during a match. So it made sense but if you are looking back at a list of matches it doesn't make sense
To be fair to Yokozuna/Undertaker, there was no way Yoko was going to fit in the casket much less get dragged into it because he was so big you'd have to get a piano case to fit him comfortably inside it.
I wonder if the Bushwhackers would have excelled in the era after they were in, the attitude era. Imagine them coming out as the Bushwhackers, only to snap, like the Abyss/Joseph Parks storyline in Impact TNA Wrestling. They would then turn into the Sheepherders, and then we all know what kind of damage they will do afterwards. They were comedy to make a paycheck, and that is fine of course. But the fact they were a brawling, lethal tag team before shows how they could have been better utilized in a different time. A prime Sheepherders vs A.P.A. match would have been money in the right circumstances.
I was really excited about the upcoming Royal Rumble in my home state this year. Until I found out that tickets were over $200 and that's up in the nosebleed section. Big pay-per-view or not, that's way too much for upper balcony seats. I got similar seats for Clash of Champions back in 2016 for around $40 each. I know that inflation is a thing but, good grief. I can only imagine how much more Wrestlemania and Summer Slam are going to be when they come to Indianapolis.
There was an audience for Drew's Rumble win, and he got huge pops for it. It was his title win against Brock at Wrestlemania that was during lockdown. Edge won the Pandemic Rumble in front of an audience of iPads.
@@TimTE01 @8:14 "In 2020, Drew McIntyre wrote his name in the history books by winning the Royal Rumble . match. Unfortunately, the Scottish Warrior's big moment came not in front of a sold out stadium but in front of a sanitized, practically empty performance center due to the Covid 19 pandemic." Maybe Adam skipped over a sentence or it just wasn't parsed well in the text. I'm not sure. I know they all know that there was an audience for that Rumble. I watch their videos because they're very smart, very entertaining experts on wrestling. But what they said in the video was incorrect this time. Again, it happens. I'm not mad about it.
I think this list is mostly a list of "Why tf is this match on the Rumble card?!". I can agree that Wyatt vs LA Knight fits the "strange" title as it was indeed a strange match, but the remainder of the bouts listed were card-filler duds with little to no story, and no reason why it should have taken a spot on the card at the Rumble. The undercard typically only has 3 or so match spots available to ensure the event doesn't run too long; so the undercard should be reserved for top matches with top stars and not Sunday Night Heat-level matches that nobody cares about or cares to see IMO.
When it launched it branded itself as an energy drink, because it has enough caffeine in it to have to legally "declare" it on the bottle (>18mg per 100ml) actual energy drinks are between 30-50mg per 100ml It isn't an energy drink, Coca-Cola has the same amount of caffeine, just.
No Roman Reigns vs King Corbin in that Dog Food Match? That was the moment WWE decided to turn Roman into a heel as they stare at his poor body chained and covered in dog food. Also Corbin never had a shot at the Tribal Chief because he was a bad boy.
That casket match between Undertaker and Heidenreich was hilarious with Heidenreich being terrified of caskets 😆
It was so funny when Heidenreich look into the casket after the Kane spot

As an actual child at the time, I thought Taker/Yoko was amazing.
The biggest shame of that Wyatt Knight match, is that was Bray's last televised match. Hindsight really hits with that one.
Certainly makes it a much sadder watch, can't imagine what was going through Knight's head when he learned he was now Bray's final opponent
Bray Wyatt is in hell so that's good
