So much more interesting than everyone else pushing a $14,000 Pinarello. These are the bikes of a smart future.
Cargo bikes and Mini Velos. And both combined! I like it. Feels so European. “Wait you mean small, practical, and functional? How UnAmerican” 🤣 I’m all for it!
That last bike would be perfect for bringing a medium sized dog on your ride!
We like your use case!
@@SAYLE_CYCLE
Thank you, guys, for all the content of the last weeks and especially for curating the good stuff of Eurobike.
"Muscle bike!"
Love it.
Cheers
I love it; it's such a perfect descrptor!
In all our years in cycling we have always used maps or hand written cards xxx stay safe xx
Stijn is beautiful and I'd love that as a travel/gravel/road bike.
People in Spain would probably chuckle if they were to see someone riding a "Cago" bike.
Confirm, and Italy too. I suggest better branding research 😂
we need clues! what does it mean?
@@SonnyDarvishzadehshit
@SonnyDarvishzadeh "Cago" translates to "I poop" in Spanish, but in a slightly vulgar way.
Well.. I've seen a bike named Pompino here in UK.. that mean blowjob 😂
Great info dude.. not seen these on the other reviews of the show.. some great ideas here 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
The Yoonit & Muli options were really popular on the test track.
Love the small footprint and usability of those.
Nice to see some coverage of the "small wheeled wonders". I have been a fan since your Moulton video on "Will it Gravel". It has been fun learning how to ride a 20 inch wheel bike on the rough stuff. Obviously not for the pointy end of the race if you want to do well but more a challenge for a fun weekend to keep riding interesting.
Really fun video. Love seeing the bikes available outside of the U.S.
US definitely isn’t the only country where bikes are available.
Lol for that ending!
Lots of Pinion bikes! I have been riding a bike with a Pinion C1.12 for the last two years (in combination with a belt drive) and I absolutely love it :)
Can't wait for that Monopole review! Greetings from Spain
That was fun! Thank you for the coverage of this event! Interesting differences from the US bike industry. :)
Thanks for featuring the small wheel bikes!
Was expecting to see Le Petit Porteur... Seems like they decided not to participate. They make great cheap mini cargo bikes.
I've pinged them to review a bike but no answer. You should give them a nudge!
I don'y know if cargo bikes are becoming a "trend" or if the plethora of electric motors for bikes is causing a market that people have been waiting for. Either which way the practical nature has always interested me and we thank you for making the videos Russ.
Nice video thank you
“Did away with the steering linkage” is such a funny way to describe the basic archetype of CycleTrucks
4:15 Steer by wire? That sounds terrifying.
Cars have had it for ages but the idea of it on a bike does give me the heeby jeebies
@@wuzihuziit is still very rare in cars, and most just have power assisted steering with actual physical connection (or clutched mechanism for very rare selection of luxury cars) The only one that truly has it is the Tesla FridgeTruck.
Though, steer by wire is a necessity for airplanes and ships.
I brake by wire and it’s never failed. I even brake by fluid.
So I think there is a misunderstanding here. The cago bike has a "steer by wire" method where the fork is mechanically connected via steel cables for steering. Steer by wire is a term known from aviation though, where it means that there is no mechanical connection but everything is done electronically.
@@plissk3n1337 Yes that latter meaning is what I thought was being referred to here. But it's evident that others understood it differently (e.g. the other commenter who said he has "brake by wire"). It's definitely an ambiguous term.
That Monopole minivelo is my new dream bike 🤤
+1 for the Concours du Machines, and Ritchey coverage! Did you get to check out the Moulton XTB while you were there? BTW, a mechanic I met in Vienna told me that the Schindelhauer front hubs spin better than anything else on the planet. I don't know myself, but it is a data point.
Was that a crack on the clamping bolts of the fork on the Puppie Dog. 😬
Oh man that closing was COLD...😂
"And that's... that's the state of the bike industry, friends."
Russ sounds so disappointed with that last bike!
To be fair, that cargo layout, while impractical for general use, is probably the best way to carry extremely heavy and dense loads. Need to move a half a ton of depleted uranium on a bike? That's where I'd put it!
Go Stjin! Fella lives down the road from me, quick little bike.
Great rundown. I believe Stijn is pronounced like ‘stain’
It also sounded like Drust was new to you. I thought they were pretty well known. All good ☺️✌️
Ma favourite cargo bike is the speedy Schoof & Jensen Doubledecker , which is a bit like Cago CS bike with an upper front rack and a lower rack. The lower rack folds up, the upper rack is fixed on a rail and can be taken away. The handle bar can be turned sideways, et voilà the bike can be easily put in a garage, corridor, or even in the apartment. It is totally slim.
Both front racks are eurobox standard size 60x40.
You can also get a lockable aluminium box for the upper rack and of course you an use a normal cargo rack on the rear.
Everyone and anyone will find his or her drivetrain, because everything is possible: no engine, Pinion, belt, chain, rear derailleur, hub gearbox, Bosch motor, Shimano motor, whatever you fancy.
I realise I sound like a sales guy, though I live in the same beautifull coastal city of Flensburg, next to the Danish border. But I have not yet met the guys. Hopefully soon.
Okay but the bob-trailer-weld-bike is kinda sick though.
Would love to learn more about the bag brands on a lot of these bikes. Not a lot of front/pizza rack bag options out there.
I just want to brag that I've met Russ this year at Eurobike!
pretty interesting, these bikes are more about utility and replacing cars than standard go fast road and gravel bikes. Pretty forward looking and probably a good reflection on how Europe is envisioning bikes in the future.
Still wishing for a production fat tire mini velo (somthing like the Falconer)... at least 3" tires, not folding, not electric
Yes! Type testing is a code smell!!! I am tired of seeing type checking for doing one thing or another. That's is most likely a wrong design.
Thanks! And you have nothing to apologize for, at least for what I am concerned. You are making deep OOP understandable.
I own a vello gravel and it absolutely go anywhere you want. ❤
@@Avatar1983 did you had to order from their website? And if you live in North America, how much was the shipping?
That CagoBike rig! Add. To. Cart.
Interesting!
This went so fast...my brain is exploding. Lol on the concert bike! I like the fire bikes with all those racks/bags. I love the small wheel ones, too. Of all the bikes I own, my Bike Friday is the only one I will never sell.
Which one do you have?
@@drujenssen5444 New World Tourist.
Cargo bikes are cool. I want one.
Does that one bike has the fork the right way round?
The disc brake facing forward isn't that common, I guess.
I heard it can have some disadvantages.
20” wheels are prone to going endo when hitting potholes or off of nasty curbs. I’m done with them
Not everybody is done.
@@Dellvmnyam i didn’t think they were. I was expressing my experience.
@@TheRickurb me too.
@@Dellvmnyam what's your deal? Just trolling comments on your day off?
@@TheRickurb yep, that’s part of it, why not?
Russ seems to like apocalypse bikes a little too much…
Shindelhauer Bikes, can't get any more German than that! I love that their bikes have good Germanic names. My dad's middle name is Gustav. 🙂
Mini velos ❤
Purple Dog looks interesting, but I can't find any information about it on their website or via Google.
Did you see how poorly it was welded?
I am the guy behind Purple Dog Custom. My website is under *heavy* construction (perfect timing with this video, eh). I am reachable via all the social media icons on the bottom of the homepage. Other year's (award winning) Concours de Machines entries will be featured in greater detail as well. Instagram is your best bet for now (same username as the website address). Cheers.
At 2:13 it looks like the clamp for the removable fork has failed!
The innovation I want to see is affordability. I love most of these bikes, especially the Vello, but sheesh are they expensive. You used to be able to buy a great bike for €800.-
Not bad
What is this pinion belt drive thing? Is it any good? I don’t care I want it. 😂
Cyclingabout has a lot of videos about it, and Priority influencers like VanDuzer does bikepacking with one.
How do I charge my E-bike in the apocalypse 😅
Solar
Please God, we need more of these in the US. And not >>4k USD! Radpower and Lectric have some good offerings but not as niche or nice build quality as what's being shown here. I would love a cheaper bakfiets/front loader alternative to the Urban Arrow.
Get the drops off all of these.
Why use a carbon belt for steering, that has to be adding a few hundred dollars to the cost for a component that barely wears.
i'm hoping in the Future to purchase a Cargo Bike!!!! They Are HOT!!!!
What now? Uh something.
No tern? ;-(
way too Euro 😂 😂
Cargo bikes, motorized bikes, small wheeled bikes, pinion electric shifting bikes are all trends that don’t interest me. Im afraid I might be a retro grouch.
None of those things except electric shifting are new though. In fact, they all date back 100 years or more! For the motors - the only difference is they're electric instead of gas.
Your enthusiasm for the last bike was underwhelming.
Looks like European is bracing for apocalypse 😂😂
So much veiled ebike hate. Are you afraid of the future?!
E-bike cargo bike seems to be an obvious trend that not many seem to be doing
I'd say the opposite; most cargo bikes I see in my area have been eBikes.
@@drill_fiend1097maybe I just have not been looking. E-Trikes would be fun and could be very practical
Prohibitively expensive.

Interesting tech finds, but I see that you are still struggling with the proper metaphor to differentiate a bicycle with one that has motor assist? Analog/Acoustic isn't cutting it. Mixing your metaphors is tedious for your audience and speaking quickly isn't preferable to speaking clearly.
