Personally, not a fan of removing seat tubes from bikes. You lose a place to put a bottle cage and that tube actually serves a second purpose to shield the rear wheel rotating into the wind at nearly twice the speed of the rider. If bikes had always been built without a seat tube, it would be considered a genius move to put one there for big functional and aero gains. Oh, and FIRST! Great work, David! Love your channel.
@@galenkehler EXACTLY! I forgot about that. Modern materials make seatstays unnecessary and removing them actually adds a little rear suspension. Culprit made a cool one like that for triathlon.
From what I've seen, the Cane Creek Eesilk suspension stem is still the best out there in terms of adjustability, it lets you change the elastromer without unscrewing the whole stem, and it has a switch that can toggle the stem between suspension and firm. The one shown in the video is just the same as Redshift, only with a rounder look.
Suspension stem with elastomers was in 90's i have one still at home in papar box but with steel spring inside, works nice but wasnt much stiff at side push directions. It was super for small road bumps to 30-40mm travel.
Great info David.. the stem looks awesome well done Ultimate looks much better than Redshift great price to.. schwalbe clik looks awesome to.. nice saddles.. very interesting.. Pete 🚴🏻😊👍🚴♀️
That Ultimate stem looks an interesting alternative to a Redshift. Great also that it’s personable: so many stems today are unfriendly and hard to get along with.
I can’t believe they’re using 15° yaw as their marketing number on those aero tires. It’s rare anyone even sees over 10°. But I guess 15watts sounds a lot better than 3watts
I find Sram's split cog cassettes their biggest usable innovation in years. I love their drivetrains, but having to ditch the whole cassette when the smallest cogs are worn down is a waste.
Anything to make presta more like a schrader seems like a win to me. I liked that Muck Off presta-to-schrader coreless valve too. I just bought my first bike in 25 years back in November 2023, and I find the whole presta valve thing very annoying. The majority of general purpose air pumps require a presta adapter. I realize the Schwalbe doesn't convert presta to schrader, but it does remove that super fragile tip you need to unscrew before you can inflate/deflate the tire. So that seems like a good thing to me.
I'm an ex-Berk Saddle user bought a Lupina around 2020 and I must say I was hugely disappointed when I was in the market for a new saddle and saw that Berk increased prices by more than 50% since then, so I did not buy again :/
No seat tube on a bike frame is a gimmick. I bet the bike weighs a ton because they have to add tons of material to make up for the unstable frame design. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
What’s the point of exhibiting a suspension stem on drop bars when it doesn’t have a parallelogram pivot!?…..maybe for flat bar but for drops it’s useless
It seems to me like there are quite a few people who like the Redshift stem. This seems like a more tunable version of that. If you want a parallelogram pivot stem you can grab yourself a Kinekt. If you listened to what he said about the seatposts they've been making for a long time, people like their suspension seatposts because they look like normal seatposts. These stems look like a normal stem compared to something like the Kinekt.
@@rickybarker4023 if you’re in the drops your hands are at a similar lateral position to the pivot. This won’t provide suspension as you need to be off that plain …..i.e. somewhere like the hoods for this to work
Interesting comment from the Merida UK guy; Hardtail XC bikes aren't really a UK thing.....But why? Is riding uphill trails like too much hard work - and they'd rather get a lift and just descend all day......
One, 70mm. Two, you can tighten screws on the elastomers to make them stiffer. From someone who just bought a Redshift pro stem (and seatpost. Combo plus a 15% discount put them at $200 each)
Welcome back to the eighties......I just love/hate the way gravel riders believe they are discovering new technologies that appeared and disappeared with early mountain-biking... most of it is total BS re-marketed..
Suspension on a road bike? Won't work. Unless, hear me out.......UNLESS Shimano pushes "stem suspension" to the masses, then it'll be popular. Like the unnecessary change in shifting and braking.
Most modern tech looks so cheep in satin black finish , looks very poor compared to the older tech like 7800 Dura Ace , all polished and sculptured , new stuff looks rubbish
Great coverage... that smooth 3D ti stuff is really blowing my mind!
Conti lady really new her tech, nicely explained.
Yeah she was lovely. Err I mean very knowledgeable.
@@gweflj Are you saying you want to do some aerodynamic testing with her?
*knew, sorry
The continental aero tire looks cool. She did a great job of explaining it. I’m ready to try it.
She really did a great job in a second language. Very impressive!

It’s been done before! Joker C4 carbon monocoque circa 1992. Remember seeing one in Graham Weighs bike shop window!!
I agree. Remove the seatstays, not the seattube

Thanks for bringing us a chance to see what's cooking in the world of bikes
As usual, bloody marvellous mate. Thank you David
Berk saddles are 👌

Super cool to see the man Jure Berk himself!

LOL He did say it was 30 years in development... I suppose he's never heard of Redshift either?
A hardcore hardtail with cable routing going through the headset. Absolutely no way I’m touching that, heck no, what are they thinking.
Hi David . Lots of cool tech 😎😎 . Great video as always 🚴♂️👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I want to try out the new Berk saddle. Love my Lupina short
Best coverage I've seen of the interesting stuff at the show.
Thanks

and one tyre is 120€
I've seen a few reviews on Eurobike, GCN, Hambini etc...your review was the best so far.
Please do a video testing the Baldiso bike!
Soon this will be possible 🎉
That cassette with replaceable smaller cogs is a great move.
Kestrel did a seat-tubeless bike 30 years In fact, two of them
Yes, i am old enough to remember these😁. Were some coll looking frames.
I own Merida hardtail Big Nine, I think is really great bike. Greeting from EU.
34 years that's crazy and to make it an integrated cable stem another 30 years hehe
Yeah been riding for over 40 years and I have always thought that the airflow through my valves was slow .
How is that new pro flex had that system out years ago
I'd like to see a suspension stem with internal routing (under). Redshift do one with BMC but they are 250 quid and not in the uk
I can't believe you didn't check out the booth behind Baldiso.
Is there a bike that handles well, fits, and can go in a straight line?
30mm suspension stem? Where can I get one?
Really cool product. Would also love to have one!
Love my roubaix. Be very cool to have the same functionality on different frames
Aero tyres jeez Ive seen it all now…when i started lycra was space age & wool or silk jerseys were the norm🤣
12:40 i want to support that saddle. any reviews on that one?
thats what we want to see man, real innovation, not like gcn going around reviewing bikes that we dont care about
also earned a sub for not putting any not-to-interesting stuff on here
👍🤩
GCN are really only interested in the race/ performance side of cycling.
New tunable stem? I’ve had a Redshift ShockStop for two years.
BMC did that 3yrs ago on their Gravel bikes.
That OE SRAM AXS transmission & cassette with replacable part is absolute genius from sram. As a shimano fan, i have to admit, killer move from sram.
Conti lady is really fuckin cool! I will now go and buy loads of Conti tyres 🤝🏼
Conti should design a tire that is easier to mount and unmount. The benefit of aero tires seems very small
Road bike parts are slowly going to be suspension technology!!! Mountain road bike.😁
We call them 'gravel' bikes these days
I find Sram's split cog cassettes their biggest usable innovation in years. I love their drivetrains, but having to ditch the whole cassette when the smallest cogs are worn down is a waste.
LOL if you're wearing through the smallest cogs on the cassette then it means you need a bigger chainring
@@OriginalTrev LOLing is a bit rude, but I agree - if cassette is worn unequally, you should look into gear ratios ❤
That stem is nothing like the redshift stem 😉
I do wish the presta valve was better than it is. Dunno if the schwalbe one is gonna fly tho

A 70mm suspension stem!!! Add to cart.
They have been out for years, have on one of my bikes really helps out on long rides.
I tried one of these with just a single pivot, the light changes angle quite a bit, I found it annoying at night.
@@davidcarino6500 Oh really? I've only ever seen the Redshift ones but they start at 80mm. What make do you have?
Love my redshift. Works at its best going downhill in tough gravel trails 😊
Conti lady was sweet but i think she meant to say the 60mm rim with the new tyres work like standard tyres at 42mm and under
50 watts, now that would be something
That Baldiso(?) is cool. I dont compete so dont care if its not uci approved.😊

Watch this space !
Kestral made a road bike without a seat tube in the early 90's
KM-40?
Wait wait wait... Can we just talk about Ass Magic for a second!? 😂 That's a new one for me. Let me just google that on my work computer..

Classic comment. “It’s really great to see a suspension seat post looking like exactly what it is. A stem’ 😂

6.8 kg
Why would I buy that stem for $200 when I could just buy a Redshift stem instead for less???

Not true, my redshift still noticeably dampens bumps in the drops

I think it's mostly because short travel full suspension race bikes are faster so therefore more popular for racing
Isn't that stem a copy of the Redshift Sports suspension stem? People here are acting like this is a new invention or something.

180 for a stem 👀

Why am i understand english speakers from ANY country, except UK? (I think the answer is: i am extremely stupid).
SRAM didn't learn anything from using "S" in naming lower level components? SX is awful stuff.
Conti aero tyers 😂😂 what a joke people will believe anything. Lots of if the rider does this travels at that etc.
The cycling industry is a joke
