Denzel is a rare gem. He's not only a great actor, but an inspirational person with high moral values as well. Uncommon in Hollywood these days
I said something similar to that effect about Will Smith and then a year later he goes and shows his complete azz by slapping Chris Rock at the worst time possible.
He thinks he's cool with his little muslim hat on. He's so stupid he can't even pick up a history book and discover muslims kept blacks as slaves and were the first people to create slavery.

I always appreciated this scene for pointing out the difference between pain that hurts and pain that alters.

The sight and sound of the woman running and crying for her child is powerful, well acted.
Nope. It's over done. And off context. Like very recent reaction. Any parent, or more emotional woman, drained from long despair do react more accordingly to the role Michelle Pfeiffer had in the Mother that had her own child kidnapped too, whom she searched frantically and thought forever lost, but suddenly realized where he was.

Even in The bone collector he was great. To act lying down on a bed the whole movie and making it entertaining shows how great of an actor he is. What a charisma.

4:29 - That little moment where he holds his glasses like that in preparation to use against one of the thugs is a real nice touch. Missed it the first time I watched.
I have to say the actor that played the dad did a good job. He was able to go from cocky to scared without saying a word at 5:08.
Funny thing to me is how the dude approached him, so the fact that he didn’t acknowledge them but did in a way was very convincing. He acted so calm and nice. I almost thought that wasn’t the dude he was looking for.

Between Training Day, The Equalizer movies and other Movies, I always enjoy the movies he stars in. Truly a gifted Actor.

A good person/actually strong person intimidates their enemies and gain respect and gives comfort to the innocent
Probably one of the best intro's / dialogues scene in an action movie.
Such a natural dialogue between 2 warriors getting 2 know each other b4 they become enemies.
I wouldn't call the abusive father a warrior.
A few reasons.
1. He never actually fought Denzel, he let his brother and friends do it.
2. Denzel stopped his timer before he addressed the father, ergo, Denzel did not consider him to be a threat.
3. Despite, on the surface, it seeming to be a friendly gesture, the mere fact that he demanded the bartender to serve Denzel despite the bartender clearly stating that the bar was closed indicates he has no problem pushing around people he considers "beneath" him. It's a small thing, but still telling. Had he said something like, "He said the bar is closed, sorry buddy." We'd have a slightly different indication of his character being this is a guy who will speak for a little guy and probably not some jerk who kidnaps his daughter just to get back at the mother.
Conclusion, dude was a bully, plain and simple, and he did what all bullies do when they're faced with someone who won't take their shit, he cowered.

I’ve been a fan all my life and love everything he has ever done but when I saw Fences, he blew me away with that performance. He is genus and from what I hear, he pulls up all the other actors around him, making them rise to their best. Denzel is absolutely awesome.

Denzel Washinton is one of those actors who is so good at what he does that he simply becomes the character he is playing and you almost forget its him. Hanks is another one like this. They've been in so many movies, but they just melt into the character. Many actors/actresses aren't as convincing.

I haven't seen many of his films but those I have have been exceptional. American Gangster, just a stunning performance. I will add these to my list.
If you have not seen it look at Cry Freedom, with Kevin Kline was one of his first major roles as Steve Biko and Kline as Donald Woods a newspaperman in South Africa during apartheid. His first Academy Award nomination.

At the beginning of every episode of the original television series, during roll-credits, they showed person after person (particularly women), being stalked and attacked by various hoodlums. Eventually, they showed Robert McCall sporting a confident look on his face, standing by his car wearing a trench coat at night and... well, just standing there.

Edward Woodward played television's version of The Equalizer from 1985 to 1989, and I liked the show but his character was different than Denzel's character, which I like more.
This scene alone without any context would made a great short film.
