Our small Methodist Church where I was raised, raised my daughter and still attend with her somewhat regularly gives me a sense of a second extended family that I'm as close to as my own family voted on this issue. Split was so close but they voted to remain traditional by a tiny margin.
My 80 year old father explained it best I believe...he earned his doctorate and masters in Educational Leadership and was a professor and chair of the local University department for 50 years. He stuck to practical logic and removed the emotional element, fervent beliefs, dogma from the equation, he said. "We (Methodists) must be willing to adjust to societal changes, progress and be open to inclusion of all people, their ideas, ideals and lifestyles who wish to worship. If we reject progress and remain intolerant of others especially, the younger generations we not only dishonor Christ but we will destroy our own church hurting our denomination. The churches that refuse to change will 100% crumble and die along with it's old intoletable members of congregations set in their ways. We must break away from this notion of intolerance and open up to inclusion of all people, their ideas, alternative lifestyle thats no longer alernative in this day and age. We must open pur doors, invite, do outreach to invite and welcome others, LGBTQ, younger generations who worship Christ or may be interested in Christ's teachings and pray for them to join us in worship and allow others to teach us and learn. The old timers or closeminded bigots refusing to change would soon just have the church die along with them rather than entertain the thought of something different. And if that's not the most immoral, sinful act by so called Christians, I don't know what is. It's more likely than not that The Methodist Church (along with other denominations) will die if it does not decide to keep up with change, modernize alonside pace of society and be open to progressive beliefs no matter how uncomfortable it may be at first."
I thought that was the most simple and compelling statement about the issue but he now chooses to spend him Sundays mornings at home enjoying his new retirement.
Id say the only exception to the threat of churches declining that remain set in their old ways is the Catholic Church due to their sheer power and existence throughout the world. The Catholics intolerance is probably by far the most extreme but they do a ton good works and outreach for the less fortunate and the poor. So i won't get started on them today.

Astonishing how brilliance and understanding has suddenly emerged over last 20 years when, for thousands of years, our forbearers languished in ignorance. We understand justice . . . they didn't. We understand mercy . . . they didn't. We understand sex . . . and how . . . and they never did. How temporally lovely it must be to rest in confident self-righteousness.

Whether you like it or not, times change and so does man's concept of God. Although you don't agree, primitive man certainly languished in more ignorance than does modern man. A Hallmark of evolution is from the simple to a grasp of the more complex; from the brutal to the gentler; from sheer instinctual feelings to logic and reason; and yes, from ignorance to knowledge. They understood that it was fine to brutally kill your daughter for having sex before marriage, we don't.Since you think the old ways were better, do you think we should revive the law that called for that? One would have to be insane to conclude that everything in the Bible is true and inspired of any God that isn't a monster. Almost literally all the anti-gay bias in the Bible derives from 1. the imperfect lawgiver (and murderer) Moses and from 2.the ambitious opportunist Saul/Paul. The former, like many ancient Hebrew writers, was primarily interested in building up a large and powerful nation - one that could kill and subjugate other tribes in the area.He knew that his people needed to be as fruitful as possible; and that anything that was not conducive to marrying and producing children was to be forbidden. Obviously, this would include same sex relationships. There was no compassion present, no understanding that gays were people with hearts and minds, no understanding at all, that has since evolved among mankind. In the case of Saul/Paul, he clearly had some very messed up views about sex and about men and women's relationships, such as that it is better for them not to marry. So it's not surprising that his views towards gay people were equally skewed. But since there was still little reason or humanity in most of the race at that time, his brutal condemnation of innocent people was accepted. You may call today's more reasonable and humane views, "confident self righteousness." That's what I call the brutal ignorance of our primitive ancestors.

    • @billblessing6454
      @billblessing6454 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@rogerwhite95 My atheist friends make similar arguments, albeit with substantially better grasp of history and literature. I respect their views; they are entitled to believe anything they wish. Most contend that Moshe never existed, that Biblical accounts reflect nothing more than uncivilized Bronze Age mores, that Christianity was propagated near exclusively by Saul of Tarsus, and that there is nothing more than the here and now. However, the notion that 20th and 21st century humans have reached an elevated state of the "gentler," the compassionate, or the "reasonable and humane" is given lie by the horrors of atheism; brought to bear on majority of human beings then in Europe and Asia. Dead bodies - some in graves but most not - serve as silent witness. Do you really understand what "brutal" is? That this "Christian" pastor feels free to discard Scripture, to embrace your proclamation of evolutionary progress, and to wallow in his own self-righteousness is . . . well, someone else can supply the appropriate adjective.

If you publicly demonstrate that not only you’re a sinner but you are committed to continue in sin, what would justify a Committed sinner to lead his/her congregation? Slavery has become a trigger word that brings up a negative reaction in connection to chains and whips. Maybe a closer look at the social structure of a more distant past would redefine the meaning. How do you think the person feels who cleans your toilet or the prostitute standing on the corner? You're saying the money is setting them free? That there are no chains keeping them tied to their social position? Don't we all declare God as Master and that we are his slaves? Very sad an un-repentant sinner in an unholy same sex marriage can honestly believe they are qualified, per 1 Titus 3, to become a bishops, priest, and deacons and will teach other's their sin is OK. The bible is very clear about false teaching. Instead, these people should be in the congregation listening and learning and recognizing their sin. Stealing is a sin and everyone expects the theft to stop stealing, the murderer to stop murdering, and so on. 07:52 this will reveal more clearly a schism between those who believe The Bible is the revealed Word of God and who work to conform themselves to it whether or not they agree with it, and those who believe their independent moral agency and competence are adequate to choose within The Bible the parts they wish to accept or reject. Fundamentally it means whether we acknowledge God as Sovereign or we create Him in our own image by cherry picking His traits according to our preferences.
The pastor's references to slavery in The Bible unfortunately perpetuate confusion. Forced chattel slavery as practiced in the United States until the mid-19th century is prevented in the Old Testament law, with the death penalty for those who kidnap others and force them into slavery. The references to slavery which appear to endorse it are referring not to forced chattel slaves but to indentured servants, who entered into servitude voluntarily and who had specific rights set out in the Biblical law (Exodus 21). Arguing that Biblical acknowledgement and regulation of indentured servitude is the same as Biblical endorsement of chattel slavery, and therefore Biblical morals are untrustworthy on other subjects as well, is factually incorrect and leaves the Christian faith with no foundation outside of each individual's rationalizations.

The idea that Jesus is just some all-loving God who takes no regard of people’s wickedness is completely untrue and unbiblical.
In Psalm 5:5 clearly declares of God, “you hate all evildoers.” God commands us to: “do not devise evil in your hearts… for all these things I hate, declared the Lord.” As a follower of God, David boldly proclaimed
“I hate the assembly of evil doers.” The Lord commanded us through Amos, “Hate evil, and love good” (Amos 5:15).
For someone to truly follow after God, they must hate evil.
Proverbs 8:13 says, “the fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.”
Psalm 97:10 encourages us, “O you who love the Lord, hate evil!”
Psalm 15, says in verse 4
that the person who will dwell on God’s holy hill is the one “in whose eyes a vile person is despised.”
    These verses do not tell us that we are to despise a vile person’s actions, while loving them;
    we are to hate evil,
    hate evildoers,
and fear God while hating what He hates.
When an innocent young girl is raped, we hate the rapist.
When a crowd of people are assassinated, we hate their murderer.
When a building is blown up, we hate the bombers, and those who convinced them they were doing the right thing.
When a politician prays to the true God of the Bible and a plethora of other 'gods' as well, we hate the assimilation of evil.
In these times those who lead are for the world and not for the people of God. They do it for politics not the lord, they do it for power, pride and greed, not for righteousness. The false profits are here now and preaching!
James 4:12. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy.
    1 Corinthians 5:12-13
For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside.
“Purge the evil person from among you.”
    Ezekiel 3:18-19
If I say to the wicked, “You shall surely die,” and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.
But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.
Sin is not to be accepted or condoned. It is not to be normalized in society and a society the accepts sin as normalcy and protects it through equity is a nation that no longer trusts in god.
Do not become the pagan nations that your creator destroyed!
    2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
    Psalms:
    125
I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.
    126
It is time for you to act, LORD; your law is being broken.
    127
Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
    128
and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.
Do not be bound together with unbelievers,” says Paul in 2 Corinthians 6:14
“for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
” Believers can and should relate to unbelievers' situations, but we must never emulate their lifestyles of separation from God
you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler.
Great reward and untold and unspeakable forgiveness is bestowed to those who can turn the wicked righteous
    Matthew 10:22
You will be hated by all because of My name,
but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
    John 15:18
    “If the world hates you,
you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.
    James 4:4
You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God?
Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
No matter what our sin may be, the consequences are the same-separation from God.
When we repent and turn back to Him,
He forgives us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness
    (1 John 1:9).
Repentance is not optional if we want to have a relationship with God.
In fact, it is the very first step in coming to faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38).
Without repentance, there can be no forgiveness (Luke 13:3).

Gee whiz, I may be attracted….. am I ?…… let me think….. well yes, I am attracted to her….. so my answer is yes!…. Wow it’s exhausting to make these decisions!”……. This is nature not sin!

Aside from the moral issue, research has discovered the biological cause for same sex attractions. During the gestation period of the developing fetus, if certain key nutrients are not present in the hypocampus of the developing fetus, the natural heterosexual attraction could be altered to yield same sex attraction or actually no attraction at all. In the animal world, any farmer can tell you that calves are usually born homosexual if they are twins which robs them of the key nutrients during the development of the calf. Doctor Joel Wallach, famous Naturopathic physiciann, has exposed the truth. The bottom line is, homosexuality can be prevented with adequate nutritional supplementation and proper diet during the pregnancy of the mother.

@@shawnsanders4056 Ask any cattle farmer about the Martin twins, which are twin calves that are almost 100% homosexual. If they are male they will have nothing to do with the female cows. The female twin cows will also have nothing to do with the bulls. It appears that the pregnant cow cannot deliver enough nutrients, unlike human twins where the mother is able to pass on the nutrients that she receives as long as they are adequate.. That same scenario occurs anytime the nutrients are not adequate in the developing fetus of whatever animal is beong discussed.

It doesn’t really matter what biological tendencies can be found to support people being “born gay.” I am attracted to girls and my base desire would be to have sex with them a lot. However, God commands us through the Bible to pursue a higher good in His design in which he designed marriage to be between one man and one woman, and that sex is a gift that should be enjoyed between a man and woman in the covenant of marriage. Sex outside of this context is disordered and sinful because it is outside of God’s divine plan for humanity.

For those who are convinced that people who do not believe the very same as then will eternally burn in Hell, they may get an unpleasant surprise at the gates as they were instructed that God is the only judge. We do not need to agree with each other, we merely need to treat all with respect and kindness, working on being good people each day, to the best of our abilities each day.

Got Angers of people who laugh at sin. Yes we are to love and accept everyone but we are not to accept the sin and call it normal. This is the Christian’s idea. It’s Gods.

I have respect for and support gay/bi people. As a matter of fact, intolerance of gay ppl is very much why I dissociated from Christianity well over a decade ago. I did not (and still do not) want to be part of a culture that marginalizes ppl bc of some arbitrary aspect of their personhood.
But there is a serious difference between two ppl of the same sex loving each other and a grown ass man claiming to be a woman. The former is a private, consensual matter that has no impact on society. The ladder is just a damn lie and do not see how an ideology that is literally predicated on lies would be incorporated into a religious institution. I don’t think the church should degrade and spread hatred of trans folks. But it would be asinine for it to claim that males are women and/or females are men bc it simply is not true and no institution claiming moral, divine authority should be propagating lies.
