The Shape of Water has been on my TBR for a while. I adored the movie so much! It's not really a movie to book adaptation, both projects are creative collaboration between two artists. They are using their respective mediums (film and writing) to tell the story together. I'm hoping the book adds something more to the beautiful movie because I truly loved it. It's definitely a weird concept but there are many things that make you think differently about what society deems "right".

I'm glad that it's only going to be a mix of new books along with the old. I find a lot of booktubers just review the newest and most hyped books, which is fine since I like keeping up with new releases, but I still love finding older books I haven't heard of yet too. A mix is great.

I DNFed Nevernight last year because I didn't know there were footnotes on like...every page. Like what? I really wanted to like the book but it's such an odd stylistic choice that it took me out of the story really fast. I hear from fans to skip the footnotes until you're rereading it, so that's probably what I'm going to try next time.
The Priory of the Orange Tree has a f/f romance, I think.
Every time someone brings up Foundryside I get super pumped because it was on my top 3 reads of 2018. Super explosive ending, a thief who's just trying to get by but gets in over her head, and a talking (funny) magical artifact. Loved it!

Completely agree that you need to read the grisha trilogy before the six of crows duology I think you get a lot more out of 6 of crows if you read the grisha trilogy first. I read the 6 of crows duology first and felt very okay about it and then read the grisha trilogy and then re read the 6 of crows duology and loved it so much more that time

Hope you feel better soon! Everyone has been so sick here and it's been cold AF as you know. We lost electricity so many times now that the minute Spring arrives I'm getting a generator! The only good thing is my doggie Hazel LOVES the snow! She was built for this weather it seems! Except on the really cold days where the ground hurts her paws and her daddy has to carry her home lol and she's not small 😝
Books wise I just finished Crazy Rich Asians which I actually liked (for some reason I wasn't sure I would and I want to watch the movie tonight) and I ordered the rest of the series so I might read more of those but I started the second book in the Grisha Trilogy yesterday and hope to finish all three so I can get to King of Scars pretty soon! I'm so excited for Priory of the Orange Tree and The Raven Tower which I am on the wait list at my Library for that I probably won't be able to get my hands on until March! I'll be trying to participate in three readathons next month so the majority of my books will be centered on those. I haven't decided on a TBR for any of them yet other than knowing it will be mostly Fantasy, Romance and some Scifi. The Shape of Water was a very interesting movie, some of the parts were rather....surprising... Glad that you're feeling better and best of luck on your reading!

Wow, what an ambitious but really good tbr! I hope you get to them all! Just a side note, I dont want to sound annoying or anything, but if you haven't read Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo you NEED to read it before King of Scars (and I dont believe you have? At least I don't remember you mentioning it haha). I can't really explain without spoiling the book, but unless you had no intentions of reading Crooked Kingdom, you will probably be spoiled for the ending if you read King of Scars first, since a Six of Crows character gets a POV in King of Scars after the events of Crooked Kingdom. I hope I made sense! Again, I hope I'm not being annoying or anything, I just don't want you to spoil yourself!

The Knife Of Never Letting Go could be part of your big book challenge. There are 3 books in the series and each is over 500 pages (the 1st book might be a a few pages short of 500). But you'll get through them quickly. I'm a slow reader but they were so good I read them very fast. They are sci-fi books with a touch of fantasy and the plot twists... OMG WOW! You won't see them coming. The way it's written takes a while to get used to. It's written from the perspective of an illiterate child, with some spelling written the way they sound.

Hey Emily! Let's try this again (my previous post didn't register). I'm so glad you're back! I've been stalking your channel in the hopes that the youtube algorithm didn't screw up. I find it commendable that you want to read more new releases, but most booktubers and book bloggers get ARCs, don't they? I think publishers should start sending YOU ARCs...you have a lot of subscribers, and are definitely a voice for Canadian Booktube!
On the topic, there is a new Canadian release out called Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice. It's about a First Nations family living in a northern reserve and finding outside communication increasingly uncommon/cut off. It's a dystopian or apocalyptic book, and I just bought it...I saw it in Chatelaine mag, and then heard it raved about on Get Booked podcast (by some Americans, surprisingly!). Waub might be familiar because he's a CBC journalist. Anyway, I'm reading it in February, and I wanted to bring it to your attention too. It's a fairly short book :) Hope you feel better soon! Je t'envoi du fricot acadien virtuel :D

Tbh the only ARCs I've been offered are books I have no interest in lol I had hear people say some publishers only give them to Canadians youtubers if they have like 100k.

I DNF’d Nine Perfect Strangers 😂 will be interested to hear what you think. Also really liked Big Little Lies!

We're off to an interesting start with the confused main character and the lovely description of the "instagram model" lol

BookswithEmilyFox Haha!! I think I got to 10% before it all got too annoying 😂 in my opinion the characters were so underwhelming compared to Big Little Lies!

I remember seeing a winters promise at my library last week. If it’s still there Monday I’ll pick it up and read it with you :)

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on "The Great Alone". I read it last year and I'm honestly obsessed. But it has domestic violence in it, so be aware

Ooo I'm currently reading A Winter's Promise and really enjoying it so far! I'm also listening to the audiobook of The Light Between Worlds, and in February I'm hoping to binge the Chronicles of Narnia.

I just DNF’ed “Nine Perfect Strangers” 🙊 To be honest, I don’t think you’re going to like it... However, good luck with your TBR! And feel better soon.

MacInnis Mama how does a roulette tbr works ?

    • @macinnismama
      @macinnismama 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@YBizzy1 you can do it however you want, its picking the books you read semi randomly. I put in all my unread book titles and authors I want to read more from this year on little pieces paper in a container. I'll choose 2 pieces of paper per month to read alongside the other books I've picked 😊

I have a love/hate relationship with A Winter's Promise. I found it an odd one. For me, it was the constant violence towards the main character. I found it really distasteful - and I'm not a precious snowflake about that stuff normally.
I will pick up the next one though because I enjoyed the world as a whole.

Emily, you'll need to read Crooked Kingdom before reading King of Scars, Nina will be in the new book and I'm 99% sure there will be spoilers about what happened in Crooked Kingdom
