  • A student interested in helping people and improving the lives of others through better health care and medicine has a lot of career options, and one such option is in the field of engineering! Biomedical engineering combines biology, medicine and engineering to advance human health. Find out how in this video. Michelle Khine talks about her work as a biomedical engineer, life beyond the lab, and inspiration from some unexpected sources (like Yoda, and Shrinky Dinks!)

    Can't believe it but, yeah this video did help me make up my mind on becoming a Biomedical Engineer. It just simply provides limitless opportunities, you can get a masters on this or go on to becoming a doctor, it's just fantastic! Not to mention it is one of the careers with the highest growth.

    You can do it. She said she used to suck at math and science and now she doesn't! My brother used to suck at math and now he is a civil engineer. I think it would be cool to get a BS in chemical engineering and a MS in bio engineering and work with organics such as plants to come up with solutions instead of using electronics. Only because I love plants.

    i love the fact that they showed all her accomplishments but also shows that she still has free time to do things she likes.seeing my family i always thought of scientists and engineers as being so absorbed in work that theres little room for anything else which shunned me from those career paths. obviously it'll take a while to get to that level of comfort but its all perserverance. Thanks for the video.Truly inspirational

    My science teacher would say I'm disinterested in science
    But I just like it being hands on

    In bioengineering, you deal more with cells and organic structure. Biomedical is more broad, you deal with (or can deal with) prosthetic, MRI machines, digital cell scanners, etc.

    I'm not great in math. Never took a physics course in High School. But I want to be a doctor and I feel that bio medical engineering will give me sophisticated analytic skills necessary for my career path. Any tips?

    hi my name is Karen I'm a 32 year old. I'm interested in engineering but not sure which one to choose from either biomedical or civil. I love science but not sure if Im good at it, and math once I understand it I'm okay with it. I do like structures of bridges and buildings. I also love animals so I'm thinking maybe biomedical might be best. I most likely gonna go to a county college and get my A.S. Would that get me a job after graduation? Or would I need to get my masters also?

      Hi Karen, I hope you never chose biomedical engineering because it’s very hard to get a job with that degree. You can do the same research as a chemical or electrical engineer.

    One of the most important aspects in Biomedical engineering nowadays is the IT technologies that can be applied to hospitals, medical records, digital imaging and information (US, MRI, NM, CT, Xray, EKG, etc) in the areas of management, standardization, secure it and make that information available to the physicians and health specialists. Biomedical Engineers are making The Matrix possible... ;)

    We need our cerebral electromagnetic fields mapped. Field strengths, length, stability, interactions, neuron count, alignment, displacments, etc; then duplicated. I suspect that our 'not so distant' future ability will be to transfer our concious and personality into a fully tactile computer program or self maintaining and replicating robotic reality.

    What kind of degree would you study if you want to engineer animals for examples?

    • @letthekidssmile
      @letthekidssmile 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'd say bioengineering

    • @kittyrocoa714
      @kittyrocoa714 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked into it but bio engineering degrees I found seem more about carrying out tasks rather than giving one the skills to create life forms; for example how to structure and create an arm. Also in this day an age IT engineering is tied in with everything; I'm looking for a degree that combines IT engineering with genetics- cybernetics seems interesting though.
      Im hope to complete a software engineering degree and find something that combines bio-engineering with computing. As I feel we could easily used technology to shape and design organisms or even create creatures superior to machines or to carryout the mental functions we desire within or robotic technology (in some instances) and even create artificial limbs that have the necessary functions to allow someone self autonomy whilst the artificial limbs not necessarily need the full abstract internal working of a real arm- I think of them as a hollowmer after being inspired by names like monomer and polymer.
      We could use hollowmers to replces lab rats and test out therapies on such hollowmers instead.
      But at some point we may argue for bacterias rights LOL.

    • @letthekidssmile
      @letthekidssmile 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You seem to want to do a lot of things. As far as robotic technology, that goes to mechanical engineering. Maybe major in that and supplement it with biomedical engineering as a minor. Biomedical engineers actually work on creating artificial limbs. A typical engineering degree actually do cover some computer subjects. It's a matter of the depth you want to study. You might want to consider hardware or software engineering too. Also, look into bioinformatics as well.
      but if i were to advice you, narrow down what you want to do, and go with that. im not saying you can't be a polymath, but it's easier said than done

      I heard cybernetics is a mixture of computing intermeshed with biology.
