- What's it really like to be a chemical engineer? What does a chemical engineer do all day? Anita Kalathil shows us some of the latest chemistry projects taking place at Proctor & Gamble and what her typical day is like inside and outside the lab. Find out what it's like to be a chemical engineer.
If I don't happen to like this major, then I'm screwed.
+Syvmana What do you mean
+Anthony Mendoza He probably means that he chose that major in university, and if he doesn't like it, he is screwed because then he'll probably drop it.

Is chemical engineering a satisfying career in India? And can you tell me if chemical engineers get good salaries or not?
@@mira22075 chemical engineering is pretty good carrier for any engineering aspirants.
It's an engineering branch which has several sister branches like petroleum, Mining, ceramics, biotechnology etc.
In india chemical engineering jobs and companies increasing day by day.
It prefers good salaries but during your freshers stage you need to struggle on low salaries but when you get atleast 2 years of experience no one can stop you to gain a good position on good salaries.
Also after B.tech it's important to do M.tech in chemical engineering after getting 2-3 years of industrial experience.
I know it's kind of an old video, but right now it kind of inspired me, instead of organic chemistry, maybe I should try studying chemical engineering :D :) Thank you very much :D
Don’t you need to study Ochem as a chemical engineer?
@@clearestapricotpencil4125 Only a little bit, you won't specialize in it
Seems interesting...chemical engineering in pharmaceutical seems so interesting too ^^
Chemeng degrees have more physics than people think, so that often surprises them about the major. Also will likely require 1 semester of a circuits class.
Yeah, chemical engineer has a lot of physics, chemistry is lesser than that.
I loove chemistry. But my job bores me, I work in manufacturing all day, and I feel like I'd rather be interacting with people at this point. I am looking to go back to school for nursing. But everyone is different , you never know until you try it ! Do it and see for yourself ! You may love it
Yeah. Chemical engineers don't really get to play with chemistry. Its strange.
Are you a Chemical Engineer?
I think Chemical Engineering is fun!
But one boring thing there’s no work of Chemistry :(
@@cricketcrumbs58 yes
What do you mean bores you ? does it get slow or repetitive ?
I love the creativity of modifying and creating new equipment. Its not just math and chemistry! I want to learn how to cook. Everything in life is about chemistry, thats a good starting point for kelsey sather!
I'm a chemical engineering student. I'm so excited!
Is it difficult??
Hello if your there I would like to know if it’s easy hard or ok
I graduated from chemical engineering as a bachelors degree, in my opinion this course was really hard.. But still have chance for surviving if you have a passion with it. Not only chemical but math, physics and little bit of biology. And i think if you want to be here, you have to be really strong in multitasking
You can start early by learning some OpenFOAM for CFD. I am a retired Chemical Engineer.
Glad to meet an experienced Chemical Engineer. I think you are a source of inspiration for the aspirants.
Very inspiring, i love if I had that opportuniy I would use it well
What are the material properties?
*Kinda thicc*
im a third year chem eng std and yet i still can't see my future being an engineer in my country.
There are a lot of opportunities in other countries. I know you'll do your best and grab those opportunities

I am still a student in chemical engineer, but I don't know where exactly I can work? and what to do?
@@gilblax8764 it's not about the subject you like, it depends on your interest.
Basically chemical engineering is not a chemistry.
Both are different terms, in chemistry we apply the things which already exists but in chemical engineering we apply the things or chemical to change their chemical or physical properties and parameters to gain a new and advanced product on a large scale.
@@samanthaomar1741 soo you are an engineering student with a chemical branch if I am correct.
In which engineering year you still studying.
This video would add more educational value if it spent more time on the experiments and less time on the definition of chemical engineering. I used to teach freshman chemistry lab and saw most students lose points because they don't complete the experiment as described in the laboratory procedure.
I love this course but i am getting discouraged since I haven't gotten an Industrial training placements of my interest

Please help me, I’m 17 and scored an 1170 on my SAT, I wanted to go to TAMU for ChemE but now I’m worrying I won’t have the smarts to get through my degree, I’m still applying to colleges as I’m only a senior in high school, but any wisdom is welcome please
I recommend you can go to a community college first to get a well rounded aspect about engineering. From there if you choose to, transfer to a 4 year college of your choice and study at a steady pace. Look for tutors for help if you feel you are falling behind. The important thing is to do your best because that is what professors always ask from students.
You have the “smarts” . It will come down to your habits more than anything. I recommend you read atomic habits and then follow its advice for college and it will be surprisingly easy. Most important just remember your grades depends mostly on your ability to do tests well which sadly doesn’t really translate into what you need to be an actual engineer but that’s a different story
Yes and usually you will get reading materials ahead of time. On Facebook or through the campus you will have access to past students and can ask them for tips specific to the courses but I'm getting at you should read ahead as much as you can so you have time to make sure you understand concepts well before the exams! Good luck!
Working in the lab and office for the whole day is exhausting

Any one here student first stage
Keeping it a stack I don't want to be a chemical engineer to change or help the world. I just wanna mix the orange beaker with the blue beaker and see what happens 🙃🙃🙃
Can I ask can someone pursue a career as a doctor and study on the side to go back to be a STEM student just wondering cause bills have to be paid out here and I'm quite fascinated as an adult with the possibilities I was not sure were out there.
Amazing! Go ahead
I'm very interested with video because I am a IIT student in kanpur campus electrical engineer
I'm not so sure you need a simulation to know it will mix when stirred. Seems a fairly well known technology.
On a small scale yes, but when you have couple hundred liter reactor or something with high viscosity it doesnt mix that easy. Also you need to have good mixing relatively fast because high concentration on one part of the reactor can cause the reaction to move towards undesirable products.
Love from India 😊
Im in the 11th grade, trying to pick a major. Yea, chemical engineering isnt for me. I think ill either go compsci or electrical and computer engineering
this course is fucking hard
Agree
how’d it go
Man it seems like the main thing for every major is profit.
Because of the cost of education in the united states, it has to be a top priority. I’ve seen people get in debt 80,000+ for their degree. You need to think about your return on investment. Yes, Passion is important. But if you’re 60,000 dollars in debt with a history degree, there’s not that well paying jobs. Should probably be a side thing.
Competition brings profit and costs to the consumers to a fair trade. Capitalism is an awesome thing. 👍
I'm in grade 12 and I would like to study Chemical engineering, what must I take into consideration
Dakalo Matodzi Well keep in mind that the job is 10% chemistry and 90% math. So if your passion is chemistry and your not big on physics or calculus, then this may not be the best path. But if it still is, keep in mind that any chemistry path is considered to be a nightmare for students in college, extremely difficult and tedious. But if your up for the challenge it is a rewarding career which pays extremely well.
@@themoonman9721 if they work in other fields like pharmaceuticals or biotech wont that involve some type of science or chemistry?. I want to be a biochemical engineer
Its good for you ask about it.
You must be strong in multitasking, passion with it, good in technical and theoritical, also must be diligent. not only chemical but math, physics, and also biology. Cuz i remember that i should had held down for 2 day without sleeping. You must know the specific of all course that you will learn and consider with you passion. Dont be surprised if you find something complex. And you have to know what you wanna be after graduating, what position you want to be. So you can prepare before and while studyinh to focus with all knowledge you need for your dream position. That was all my fault come and join in this course but don't prepare and know about everything about this major. Don't make a mistake like me!
I'd ask around to some colleges, TH-cam comments aren't generally a good place to ask, everyone here is a know it all that's happy to spew whatever garbage they think is correct with no evidence.
Did you peruse chemical engineering and if you did how’s it going?
Great info. Thangs a lot.

You must have logical thinking, an open mind, be capable to improvise
Thank you that was helpful Kadic Amir
underscore you As a process engineer u have to do some math n chemistry at uni. But thsi is not so much needed anymore at work. They already have spreadsheets for everything. For work, you will have to be flexible, meaning you are working where teh facility is, which might be out in the country (outside the city) or you may have to travel to various facilities as part of your work (nationally or internationally). You will need to interact with a variety of people, form businessmen, to technicians, to builders, safety regulators, and agencies to get their approval etc. You may have to make phonecalls to find your suppliers etc etc. Lots of meetings so preferably one should be a ppls person, who enjoys engaging and exchanging ideas with people. An engineering job is more about solving problems in a practical and cost effective way. In summary: Its a very versatile job, never boring, but requires you to be flexible. Of course, for your travels, they compensate you financially.
Did you go through with becoming a chemical engineer?

What I can tell from experience, if you are that person who loves 'thinking outside the box' chemical engineering is your field.
You need to have potential in Math as well as Chemistry.
When I say Chemistry, I mean the physical chemistry.
In ChemEng you'll be involved in more team-works than any major did.
It's great fun, even though, I have reached to some points that I found myself dump and useless Lol. Trust me you would be in my position if you took up ChemEng course.

Hi. I'm a chemical engineer based in the Philippines. For me, to be a chemical engineer doesn't mean that you need to be really smart or genius. You just need to strengthen your analytical skills and creativity in order to survive it. All you need is hardwork and practice. Compared to my colleagues, I'm not that good in subjects like math, physics, chemistry, etc but I managed to finish the degree. I hope this helps. Good luck!
Maybe they are using simulation for the mixing time and the conditions of the mix.
