I'm a bit late to the party as I had to wait for the CPU to be in stock and delivered. I also made sure that the memory timings and the infinity fabric set to 2067 works properly on the 9800x3d, this took around 2 days of stress testing the memory. IMPORTANT: F1 24 results are misleading, as, after the latest update, I observed a drop in performance and major stuttering during the benchmark runs. Age of Mythology results are correct for the 1080p and 1440p on the 7800x3D, I doublechecked several time.
The 9800X3D is phenomenal. I'm only waiting for the 9950X3D and seeing the tariff prices approximate average, before a final decision is considered. Also, the 7800X3D continues to demonstrate its performance and value, its the next 1080Ti of processors for sure.
Thank you. You are the only one to finally test a sensible resolution, 1440p. Other testers did not understand that testing a CPU in 1440p or 4K is worthwhile : gamers who can afford a 9800X3D don't play in 1080p.
They test in 1080p because 1080p is cpu bound in almost every single game, at higher resolutions you’re gpu bound. So would be better to test at 1080p to see what the cpu is capable of compared to 2/4k resolution where your gpu is doing most of the work.
@@Js-gv8qh Wait for a new generation and then what ? 5080 at best will be 4090 performance, and 5090 will be so blody expensive that only a couple percent of people owning 9800x3d will be able to buy it.
Very solid video! I'm excited to try 5.4ghz+ all core 9800x3d vs. my locked down 5050mhz PBO -30 CO 7800x3d. I'm interested to see how much difference all core makes vs. traditional PBO and Curve Optimizer.
Put the price difference between 7800x3D and 9800X3d on the graphics card, the difference is insignificant even in 2k games. I'm using 4k, 13600k + 4080S with GPU 99% :)
I'm on 13600k with 4070 Ti, but i have ordered 9800x3d. Why ? To have the processor ready for the next 2 or 3 generations of cards, plus switching from ddr4 to ddr5 memory, and hoping that AM5 socket will support a couple more CPUs in the future if needed. Probably next gpu- 5080. It all depends on performance and the price.
I see with some games 16gb vram is almost maxxed out. Hopefully the gddr7 in the 5000 series really is 33% better otherwise 16gb cards gunna age like 3070 8gb and it aged terribly. Want a computer that can run games max/high for atleast 3-4 years in 1440p 120fps+. Spending $3000+ on a pc is rough. Can buy a console an a oled tv for less. And the sad thing is spend 3000 on a pc just for it to be mid range and struggle to even get 80-100fps in newer titles is just sad. But after saying all that, do you believe a 7800 or 9800x3d is worth buying over a 9700x if plan on trying to get a 5080 to try achieve 120fps + at ultra/high settings in 1440p 144hz?
My current build 10700, 3070, 16gb ram and i struggle to play anything in 1440p above 60fps that was made after 2020, even if i do get over 60fps i get terrible frame rate spikes and jumps
This is the norm unfortunately, Nvidia has increased the prices of their GPUs and AMD just fallows suit, it doesn't compete on price anymore. Hopefully with the next generation, that is around the corner, things will be better, but I have low hopes :(
So running a 4080 super and 5800X3D here and wondering if its worth upgrading to AM5 and 9800X3D when I play games at 1440p - Doesn't feel right to drop £700+ on mobo ,ram and CPU
Oh I'm so happy I got my 7800x3d at the start of the year before the price hikes and scalpers. What a wonderful CPU. Just skimming through the video and seems like the 9800 doesn't really offer a major gaming performance boost. I can sit on my build for a couple years comfortably 😁
Yes, for sure. The advantage that the 9800x3d has over the 7800x3d is the higher clock speed. Some games will see some benefits, other not. I would stick with he 7800x3d, and maybe update to the next generation of x3d CPUs.
Both CPUs will be relevant for the next 5 years. No need to upgrade really. 9800x3D will age better obviously with next generations of GPUs power with its OC capability.
I think 5 years is a stretch not knowing the improvements of the next gens of GPU to come. With that said, I think it doesn't make sense to upgrade from one generation to the other
Finally a good video and not paid for by amd, give it a good 9800x3d as it is released now and how, many "paid youtubers" give a good one with the one released such as hardware unboxed, nexus, linus..etc where it ranks with 20.25fps on 9800x3d compared to 7800x3d, the truth is different. Good review, I was wrong about the 9800x3d and I'm sticking with the 7800x3d because it's a top processor. It's not worth 700 ron (150 euros) in Romania for 9800x3d and 10fps compared to 7800x3d. Good work Feedback
At the current price, I would say no. Keep in mind that when you game at 1440p, not all games will benefit. I think if you can get the 9800x3d at sround MSRP, then it's an ok price. AMD increased the price, a di*k move from their side :(
@casuallygamin9 so I was able to pick up my Ryzen 7 9800X3D from microcenter in Houston yesterday. My motherboard is MSI Pro 860M -A WiFi. Will your video apply to my current setup?
Should work. I would advise to do proper testing though. Use mem test and do make sure that the settings used are stable on your system. Do know that what works for me, may not work for you, or you may be able to squeeze more performance thwn me. As for th video, I'm working now on the comparison, it should be done on Monday.
i have an opportunity to sell my 12700k with mobo and rams right now. I have pre-order 9800x3d but that will be going at january 2025. I have at the right moment a 7800x3d with corsair 2 x 16 CL-30 and mobo is Mag Msi X870. So i think with thoses tests , i will go foward with 7800x3d. Thx for your hard work.
That should be the case. Like I said in the video, theres no point in spending extra money on a CPU if you don't have the GPU. At 1440p in most games the limiting factor is the GPU. Alos, keep in mind that newer games are demanding, and even at 1080 high settings, GPU utilization can go up to 100%.
So it turns out that for 1440p resolution, the 9700X is a better deal, if you have an RX 7900 XTX. The question is what would be the difference between 9700X and 9800X3D with RTX 4090, probably not much. My opinion is that the 9800X3D will not drop in price for a long, long time, and maybe not even then. Because it is currently considered the best gaming processor on the planet, and that's why everyone will buy it. That is why there is no reason for its price to drop.
I would suspect that by using a 4090 the difference would be bit bigger, not by much. People with 4090 tend to use max settings, and the 7800x3d or the 9700x is more then capable to push a lot of FPS.
It is a good CPU. I doubt that there good deals out there for the 7800x3d as AMD reduced production for it so prices will go only up. My suggestion is, if you are aiming for the 7800x3d, wait for the 9800x3d prices to normalize.
I would stay with the 7700x. You will see little performance gains with the 7800x3d. You can tweak your memory so that the 7700x can gain a bit the ground compared to 7800x3d
I'm not sure about the statement that upscaling is better then native, maybe in games that have bad TAA implementation, there is some shimmering, but I for one, think that native is better then upscaling
native is native. If you can't run it we now have tools to compensate. Upscaled never has as good IQ but in most games it doesn't matter cause you're running around and not actually looking anyway. Get your fps in the enjoyable range for you and enjoy the experience.
I just get way more stutters then before and I can't really have 3 runs to make the average and draw a conclusion, hence the lower averages for the 9800x3d. Before the latest update, it was smooth as it can be seen in the video. Now I'm getting a lot of stutters while using the benchmark. I'm curious if it's only on my side (maybe because Windows 11 updates) or this is happening to more people.

The only drawback that I see for the 7800x3d is that it is a bit hotter when compared to the 9800x3d
@@casuallygamin9 Also the 7800x3D isn’t able to be overclocked
