    I used to be able to get 65mph out of my PX200E. Loved it to bits

    I had a clapped out 1963 Vespa. Clutch was gone. Had to get it rolling and throw it into first gear. The exhaust had a threaded coupling to the head. The threads were stripped. I loved that thing. More than 50 years and 30 some motorcycles later I still have a special place in my heart for that old scooter.

    I always found the p200e to be a pleasure to ride. And this guy is only getting 50 flat out I've had 6 p2s over the years and the slowest of them managed 65. I think this guy needs a twist and go he such a winger

    great review pulled my p200 out 0of the shed (at my friends garage for 20 years) got it running during covid. driving it brought back the memories, knee hurts from the kickstart, wrist sore from changing gears, but my 15 year old loves it. its his now, he drives it up and down 0ur alley and parking lot, 0at 16 he wants to start his license. 0as for me, my Motto Guzzi is coming next week

    P200 Best Vespa Ever. apart from my Vespa GS running with 200 engine. 1st You need to check that the inner gear cables are moving freely! My first Vespa P Range 1979. Loving it.

    I had a P125x and loved it and rode it all over. I found it easy to work on. I live in Greece now and plan to get another P-series Vespa soon. I would take a P-series over a newer model.

    I own a P200E from 1983. 55 MH is for px125, P200E goes at 67/68 MH.
    Your gearbox needs maintenance.
    For the engine: many P200E have very different performances. You have to check the engine timing and compression.
    You will appreciate your beautiful vespa much more 🙂👋🏻

    I have a 1979 P200E and a 2006 GT200. The GT200 (with a CVT transmission) will get you there, but it's drop dead boring. The P200E, with an aftermarket exhaust, is an absolute blast to ride. Kickstart only, pre mix oil and gas, it actually has a choke knob to pull out when you start it, the shifter is clunky (yes, it's properly adjusted) the seat is a torture device, the brakes are barely adequate, the handling is pretty bad, and the whole scooter leans slightly to the right, because it is heavier on the right side. The clutch is a bit grabby, so if you are not careful with it, you will either stall it or take off with the front wheel in the air. It wheelies really easy, because all the weight is in the rear. I love the raspy sound of the 2 stroke engine through the Sito+ exhaust, and the 2 stroke exhaust smell. Unlike modern plastic scooters, this thing is a MACHINE. It's crude, primitive, has a lot of rough edges, and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm so sick and tired of over refined computer controlled modern bikes. Once you get used to riding one of these it becomes a lot easier, but it will always require a lot of rider interaction. And that is what I love about it. That is where the FUN is. It's not one of those computers on wheels that you just get on and it takes you where you want to go smoothly and quietly with very little input from the rider. Remember the original 2 stroke manual shift Vespa is a 70+ year old design.

    Guess I'm not vintage with my 2010 300 GTS, but it's a lot of fun to ride. I rode the Big Twin Harley for 35 years, a 1972 Electra Glide semi-chopper (still have it) all over the country and I can honestly say, I love riding the Vespa, perhaps not as much as the Harley, but I still love it. So, I can relate to your feelings on it. Sometimes, I'll cross paths with a Hog rider and he might give me a funny look; I just laugh because I say to myself, "You should see what I have in my yard." Anyway, I can go on and on rattling about the Vespa, but it felt good expressing some thoughts on it. Hope you get yours running right, it will be a lot sweeter. Nice video, and congrats and best wishes with the marriage.

    Lovely little film. Even with her age related marks she still looks beautiful!
    I’ve just bought another PX aged 56. Its my 4th Vespa and 3rd PX. First two were early to mid 80s (50 special and a PX150 reg’d as 125 from Ron the con new. Tho I bought it 2nd hand)and another early mid 2000’s. I passed my test once but never sent my certificate and licence off due to getting knocked off my brand new PX200. That I’d picked up the day before from Scooter Emporium Brick Lane from Marco. I tried for 6 months but never regained my confidence…I regret that choice and have for years. So here we are back to where I was in 03. Though just gonna do CBT and see how I get on…

    It's true, a Vespa needs special skills to ride. A biker will soon be on his ear if he tries to ride like on a motorbike. The direction indicator button is on the LEFT side on all Vespas I have seen. Someone must have switched it on yours.

    • @GoSlash27
      @GoSlash27 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. My Polini 177cc easily does 60 at half throttle. Shifting gears is also a breeze. I've personally found that this little 2- stroke is the easiest thing I've ever tuned. So long as the timing is correct and there are no vacuum leaks, it'll run well regardless of how the carb is jetted.

      GoSlash27 so mines just totally screwed up from the 4k miles its done its hole life? i called a shop to ask if they could look at it and the guy said it would require so much of his time to disassemble everything that the cost would start at $500, and thats just for his labor. Im more inclined to drain this thing and put it in my livingroom for decoration.

    I don't think any scooter rider has the soap box to say another brand is dorkier. Only dorky scooter ppl are listening anyway. I owned a Stella 2t (PX150 copy) for many years and also a 1983 Honda C70 for a similar time period. I've restored a friends barn find 1969 CT90 that needed damn near everything rebuilt. Overall the Hondas are nicer to ride and easier to work on and get parts for. The bigger wheels help a lot.
    The Vespas aren't too bad to find parts for, but there's a wide range of qualities and anything with good quality is expensive. The Vespa wiring and cables are a pain to replace and dial in, but the engine rebuilds are pretty simple. I went through 4 pistons on my Stella and never replaced one on the Hondas.
    A friend is about to gift me his 1982 P200e that's been outdoors, under a tarp for 10+ years, so I'm sure I'll be ordering rubber bits, cables and wiring galore.
    I live about 75 miles from San Francisco in Santa Cruz and it was really had to sell my Stella. Not much Vespa interest here, although I've seen a couple Vespa rallies come through town over a 12 year period.
    The most fun I had on my Stella 2t was joining a local Harley rally mountain road ride, out handling them all and then have them all pass me on the up hills. I also soft siezed the piston on the way home, driving me to replace another top end :(

    I recommend taking some other vespas out for a ride, It sounds like you have got one that the previous owner tinkered with. I have a stock 71 Vespa Rally and it is smooth as silk, i can hit 70mph on it and i'm a 230lb tall guy. I've had it for almost 20 years and some years i'll have it sitting in my shed for 6-8 months and it will start with 1 kick, even with the old 10% ethanol gasoline thats been sitting in the tank. Find a local guru, have them service your bike, it will be worth it!

    • @FridaysTheBomb
      @FridaysTheBomb  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody tinkered with this. My family bought it basically new, but let it sit for 25 years.

    Take the cowling off the jug, spray some soapy water round the gasket between the cylinder head and the jug, kick it over and check for bubbles. Warped heads are a thing on these.
    If you are only getting 50 out of a P200E, the first thing to check is loss of compression.
    My mildly tuned P2 (2nd oversize piston) would do just short of 70 on the flat.

    i learned to ride on a pit bike hehe. Next up was a 125cc 2 smoker Cagiva.
    Wanted to "revive" an old Vespa(no shifter) with my father in law... ended up with a long-hard-to-get-part-list-and-extremely-high-priced ...so we ditched the project. Ended up restoring a Mobra Hoinar (old Romanian motorbike... good bike).... restoring old bikes feels just so.... heroic.

    • @FridaysTheBomb
      @FridaysTheBomb  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      expensive parts? i haven't found anything for this scooter to be too expensive. but if i had to actually rebuild it that might be a different story

    • @MoTuuur
      @MoTuuur 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Friday'sThe Bomb we were doing a complete rebuild, engine had mud inside it. rear wheel was missing and some transmission parts, front headlight missing, electrical part was totaled and the exhaust pipe was missing. And the bodywork needed A SHITLOAD TON of work. And i am not even entering the details.
      Our guess was that that poor thing sat in the open for 5-10 years...even more. But before we sold it to another guy we gave it a try and made the engine run(that alone took us around one week). But that project was too time consuming and neither of us liked scooters that much... so we passed the project down to another lad for a really low price.
      And with that money we bought the Mobra i mentioned in the last post... which was in a slightly better condition... plus we had most of the parts we needed for that project at our disposal(second hand market offers a ton of parts for these kind of motorbikes, plus my dad had one).

      haha...no I'd never flop the content of this channel like that haha. thats a good idea though, talking about where i like to ride out here. honestly the places I've enjoyed the most are the places that didn't present me with any peril. like the dirt trails over by sun city. its just a mess of peoples shooting debris and donut tracks. the more "fancy" adv stuff is usually an anxiety trip. it will be a couple weeks before i reveal a new bike unfortunately. but i think everyone will approve ;)

    If you're P200e isn't running right, you might want to look into either cleaning or rebuilding the carburetor and/or look at replacing the cdi box. It should run smooth as silk at all rpm's with minimal vibration. You also need to look at the clutch and transmission cables as the shifter should be smooth. I had an '80 P200e I bough new and drove it for years until I laid it into the side of a car that pulled out in front of me and then stopped blocking the road. That front fairing and rear covers kept me from loosing a leg. I ended up driving the scooter to the hospital about a half mile away. Take a look at this guy's video that was like mine. His is running like one should. Good luck with yours. th-cam.com/video/_PtQCOmuCPM/w-d-xo.html

    In my country this bike is a legend... Everybody loves it for many things of it. You also use it in driving license tests. Every single man here tells that is dead easy to drive a vespa. Also maybe do to the fact that it is an old lady and as you guess it might face some problems this that. The only "mechanical" you have to know is the spark change... And this is because vespa is 2stroke.. I mean its a bitch, a tough one..All in all throughout your words I understood that you don't have "in your blood" the true meaning of owning a vespa. You are not a vespa guy. Vespa is not for you, i disagree in many things that you said with you and as I said... You don't get the philosophy of vespa. Better sell it.

      Well said my friend. I’m from the UK and here there is a lot of love for Vespa also. You either get it or you don’t. This guy is a biker. A very different breed.

      lol, WELL in my defense, I've been using hand signals all year because my old bike didn't have signals. so I've gotten used to looking around to see if indicating is necessary since pointing left to nobody is kind of silly lol

    A modified Vespa will produce ridiculous power .. you can pop wheelies in 3rd gear just with the throttle.. you need someone that knows about Vespa that can work on them ..

      Friday'sThe Bomb I owed a small frame Pk Vespa back in the 80's when living in Italy .. modified long crank shaft for advancement ,180cc piston and cylinder , bored out intake Carter , 4 disc clutch along with primary gear 22/63 straight teeth (straight teeth on the gear makes it whistle like a turbo) ,,, sprint muffler, custom intake pipe and Honda motorcycle carb .. can't remember from which Honda .. It was so fast it would beat most motorcycles at that time off the start.. Always dogging the Police in Italy.. Some friends had modified PX Vespas with 300cc .. with outrageous power.. You"ll see some videos on TH-cam with modified PX doing some crazy speeds .. I wish I can get into it again but on the east coast Vespas not to popular

    Needs a new gear cruciform.
    Change that, your gear changes will be like butter.

    I had one in the eighties, trust me they were crap when were brand new. Shit brakes, rubbish headlight. Have a modern scooter now, Honda 125. A MILLION times nicer, faster and safer.
