always a bunch of stuff to keep on top of. this is a vid i did because people were curious! i intend to keep it for the long haul and it'll like end up like triggers broom! as i'm a serial tinkerer. if you see owt in these car vids you think i have done wrong, don't hesitate to comment, as i'm not at all a mechanic, i'm just plonker with a can do attitude, some tools, a number of garage days with me dad as a kid and a haines manual and i suppose transferrable skills from other hands on thingies like syndesizers, but that doesn't mean i know what i'm doing with cars! It's had a lot of mechanical and body work since the last MOT 4 years ago, so it should be a breeze! but there is always the blinker fluid that gets you!

Wouldn't surprise me if the sound of the gearbox got them thinking something's up. Most people are so used to nice quiet helical gears that a straight cut racing box probably sounds like it's scary broken!

Haha. The fact that you are driving a mini with a cage around as well as the fact you downsized the wheels tells me you are enough of a car guy to me. I'm swapping a Honda engine into my little Mini-inspired Nissan Be-1, and I put smaller wheels back on mine too. Lightweight = fun.

It's always good when an MOT tester sees new parts, it gives them the idea you are looking after your vehicle, then they tend not to look so hard. You can get the MOT test sheet on line and just check everything on it. 🔧👍

Props to you for keeping the little mini up and going.
I’m in the USA and heavily involved in cars as a hobby and it’s always great to see someone take the time to learn the skills and enjoy a classic car.

We use a similar product to Lanoguard on boats called Lanocote. It's "anhydrous lanolin" which my dad always pronounces "androgynous lanolin" which makes my day. Instead of a spray, it's a cream that you rub onto fittings and cables to protect them. It smells pretty nice and it makes your hands soft.

I respect your integrity regarding the useage of the car being "in the spirit" of the MOT exemption; I've seen some absolute widowmakers rolling into car shows (most notably an old Singer that ceased to exist at the bottom of the doors. I mean NO sills at all, dread to think what the frame was like!)
As someone who daily drives old MK2 Sciroccos I'm all too aware of 30+ year old parts just deciding to shit the bed, and I totally agree that if it's exempt but in regular use it's the responsible thing to do.
People seem to forget that just because it's exempt from MOT doesn't mean it is exempt from being safe to use on the highway!

I love this car stuff! Cute little car and those 10's suit it really good!

I feel the same about the wheels. Both my Minis had 10" wheels, one had Minilites the other had white Weller steelies. I test drove a late model Cooper with the 1.3 injection, didn't get on with the wheels, felt like they were trying to hard to make it modern when they built it. I also preferred my 1100 engine, felt revvier and more fun.

Oh, I'm so jealous! My first car was a '65 Cooper S 1275 with hydrolastic suspension (race engine, so really a 1293; full cage like yours). Every time I see yours, I think I should get another one...

Ahhh... I remember when cars were things you could work on at home!
I remember taking the gearbox out of my old Cortina and fixing it in the kitchen floor, modern cars have me baffled just looking at the engine bay.

Great video Sam! Loving the mini 👌 props for doing the checks and work yourself 🙌 guessing the scirocco went?

It looks so easy to work on! But I'm glad you have the rally(?) rollcage in it --- the early minis were deathtraps. At least you don't have the model with the spaghetti-top corner pillars.

Fantastic. As the fellow owner of an orange classic mini the only advice I'd like to give is NEVER SELL IT! The internet is awash with people crying about how they regret selling their first mini and yours is a belter. Very cool indeed!

Yep you know it! My first car was a mini clubman estate and I've spent the last 5 years trying to find it again. So yeah I know what you mean!

Love your mini👍🏻good you got the baljoints and the bearing fixed that would be a MOT fail. i got MOT on my car today it is 23 years old (APK here in the Netherlands) it failed Friday on the right handbrake and i fixed in the weekend. Here in the Netherlands MOT exemption is above 50 years and tax exemption is above 40 years

Good job job you did those wheel bearings, the MOT people love to jack the back up and see if they can pull ya wheels off! 😂
