      They had 1 round with no crowds right before Australia started to rise in cases
      They are starting again on June 11 because we are starting to have single digit rise in cases

We all know the history. Plus generations of our families have been going to the footy like us , through wars and everything. Players stay in the industry & are around for decades.

I was clicking channels and saw the game and had no idea what it was, I became a fan watching the Adelaide Crows come from behind at halftime and beat the Collingwood Magpies. After they won, they sang their team song which is the same tune as the US Marine Hymn. They also have Red & Gold as team colors (along with Navy Blue) the colors of the Marines. @windingcirclelifesch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, there is Inter Rules or "International Rules", but it's a mix of two sports: Gaelic Football (Irish) and Australian Football (some of what you have just witnessed). There's an annual two tests of Inter Rules against Ireland and Australia where they compete to win the Cup. I don't watch it, but it's certainly out there. The few huge differences in the sport, however, is; One, they play on a rectangular field, instead of an oval. This is a Gaelic Trait. Two, they use a round-ball, but can still handpass, kick, and even bounce like we Aussies do with our Sherrin (the ball in Australian Rules). And three, probably the biggest difference is that they have 3 ways of scoring (that I know of). One way is to kick the ball into a soccer-like net, the other is to kick the ball over a bar that hangs over the net, and the last way is to kick it between two poles guarding the barred/net like a behind in Aussie Rules. I don't know where you can watch it on TV so it may be worth googling. :)

They could watch early weekend matches on west coast... I get them around 10:30 am Thai time which would be 8:30 pm US west coast. Maybe this US dearth of sports might lead some to give footy a gander (and then get hooked... )

    I started watching during the Pandemic. I decided to check it out because I heard a lot of positive things about the sport. I ended up choosing the Sydney Swans because of their consistency of success, as well as their young players because of their strong potential with how Sydney has had numerous successful and quick rebuilds. Anyways, I’m looking forward to seeing the Sydney Swans become a dominant Club once again in the coming years and as an American Sports Viewer, I absolutely love watching the AFL alone with its unique playing style and high scores. Just to clarify that Australian Rules began in 1850s and Gaelic football in 1880s. Australian Rules came first and Gaelic took some of the Aussie Rules play to develop their games not the other way around.

    • @danieljeffersonkennedy2435
      @danieljeffersonkennedy2435 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      zennie98 actually Gaelic football can be dated back to the 14th century but the GAA was founded on November 1st 1884 and the British had been sending prisoners to Australia bringing ideas as well and over 30% of people in Australia have Irish ancestry. We can assume that AFL came from a mixture of ideas between Gaelic football and rugby and probably other ideas as well.

    • @jeffjaffers5292
      @jeffjaffers5292 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope. If the Irish brought the game to Australia there would have been a Green team. It was influenced by the local indigenous game Marngrook, th-cam.com/video/UY8snUkHA8A/w-d-xo.html

    • @onedarthyear726

    • @VantaBay
      @VantaBay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is incorrect. Gaelic football has been around for several centuries earlier than the 19th and 1884 was simply when the GAA was established, which governs gaelic football, hurling, rounders and handball (Irish versions)
