  • This is the second part to our annual Primal Outdoors campout with our friends. But we decided this would be a good time to try out van life for ourselves, while surprising everyone with an unannounced attendance!

A couple of Pro-Tips: Our stealth works great for boondocking many days in the snow, and maintaining an interior temp of 63 degreees.
    1. To drastically reduce condensation in cold temps use a USB powered fan or two to circulate the air. I use 1 the cab area and 1 in the galley area. Slightly open the one window on each side of the van and set your heater to desired temp. We set ours at 63 degrees and get very minimal condensation overnight in temps in the teens. No ice buildup on the interior, only very slight fogging.
    2. A backwoods Hack to charge the Volta system without having to manage the “gas” pedal is to purchase a collapsable trekking pole and wedge it in between the “gas”pedal and back of the steering wheel. It will hold your RPM’s at a steady desired level, requires little management, and is very easy to use. I’ve run mine this way for maybe an hour or so at a time, works great.
    3. You can turn off your inverter to save power while you sleep.
    4. Always leave hot water on while snow camping and open one of the galley drawers to allow the heat to get to the plumbing parts in the galley.

It was a learning experience from the truck for sure. We found out like 2 days later one of the vents was closed off for the heater. So we were pushing it hard to keep warm haha. Once we found that it wasn’t working nearly as hard.
I like the wedge idea. If it were out full time rig I’d say that was as must
Same with the fans and the condensation!

Those crazy priced sprinters are not as nice as I had thought... and I could buy about 500 tents for the price LOL

I enjoyed part 2 as much as part 1. Nice job. I dont think you could have asked for nicer snow camping scenery.

Very cool drone footage! Great video! I should have rented a van too since the old suburban needs some work as well. Hopefully we'll see you guys at summer camp!

      😂😂
They’re worth it, plus I think if you don’t eat them all in one sitting it’s more cost effective haha

Was the heater electric? Any solar on the roof? Have to imagine you’re right about the vans being rigged out for daily travel to keep the batteries charged.

So it was a diesel heater. I think there is a 90w panel. But it was COVERED in snow. I did find a vent that was closed and that made a world of difference. While I still think the batteries had no chance of 10 days continuous use? They were still very impressive none the less.
I’m going to work on a review of it specifically

@@ChambersFamilyOverland My friend owns a STO Beast Mode and has told me that the solar on the roof is pretty useless at 90w. It's more of a trickle charger than something to rely on to keep the batteries topped off. IIRC he does have a dc-dc but thats useless while parked for a few days. They are nice vans and the 4x4 capability is something I wish my bus had. They also get pretty good mpg.
