to me, I feel as though there is none. I've been struggling with severe depression for years, and gave up often. I despise myself, yet I find myself striving for the better again. I will give it my all, regardless of my self-hatred and lack of "why".

Guys, when I was 39 2 years ago, I was 320lbs, miserable. My wife is a unicorn and she deserved better. My kids deserved better.
I set myself to just walking and controlling my diet. That grew into cycling and lifting.
Today, I've lost 100lbs. I feel incredible. My fitness and cardio are off my charts (I cycle 60-100mi per week, often at very high intensity levels). My lifting arc started about 6 months ago and I'm going hard now.
I say all this because at 41, I'm experiencing a full renaissance in life. I can do anything with my kids. My wife is enjoying an energy Ive almost never had. Our intimacy has increased 10x and so has my stamina (cardio FTW). Everything is better.
I write this because I had all of this in 14 months. I lost the 100 in 14mon. I've maintained since then. But I am now going for 185-190, as I have never seen my abs. And I want my wife to see me and gasp, just once.
I started this at 39. I feel like I'm 25 again (minus the joint cracks, but no pain yet). Don't wait. Just start. Start walking. Start eating half the portions you used to.
    Just start.

i really want to say: thank you, truly, with all my heart! i've a good job, a cozy home. but my mental health was not in a good place. i was isolated, feeling lonely, desperate, unhealthy, far away from family, no relationships or someone I value in my life... money was only fuel of my mindset. i've built my "why" for last 2 months. i started to change slowly, after 2 months my entire life and mindset is in a different and better position. now, I lost 30lbs, eating clean, physically/mentally active and healthy. i knew that i needed to change, but I didn't have the courage. 2 months ago, when youtube algorithm somehow decided to show Noel to me, i've finally found the courage I need.

I get married in two weeks. I'm 19 years old. Working my butt off. But I'm "too tired to go to the gym". I value my time so much, that part of the reason why I'm getting married so young and am starting my life with my wonderful wife. I save and invest wisely, but I don't invest in my health enough. I used to (mountain biking, 100+ mile hiking trips, multi pitch outdoor rock climbing over days) so I know what I'm doing, but I let my laziness win over and over again. I'm working hard, my "Why" is to be a good steward of my body and keep myself healthy for my future family. I can't forget it. ❤

Set realistic goals and tackle one at a time is what has helped me. Step one was to track every thing I ate no matter what and if I couldn’t accurately track it I didn’t eat it(anything without semi accurate nutrition info) This has allowed me to be more conscious of what I’m eating. It’s important to only track not change build a habit one at a time and you will find that others will come easier.

I started running in 2021 and am hooked. I moved to Oregon in 2023 and joined a women's running and walking program that got me connected with so many friends. I went from struggling to run 3 miles after I moved to Oregon due to slacking in my running to completing 4 half-marathons this year. My sights are set on a full-marathon on June 1, 2025 so that I can say "yeah, I've done that."
My goal this winter is to improve my speed and get in the habit of strength training regularly. I this summer I did strength training sporadically as I'd often develop calf pain after. Turned out, it was weak soleus muscles. I have found a program that inspires me to strength train twice a week to build the consistency and habit. My full-marathon training plan starts in January. Rain or shine, I'm running through the winter, and if it snows, I have YakTrax.

Damn, man! Today I lost a patient. I’m a paramedic, and we were called to a 70-year-old unresponsive man. We provided advanced life support, performed CPR, but we lost him. This isn’t that hard. We do this a lot. If we’ve done everything we could, our soul is at peace, even if the patient passes away. But this one… His wife was there, and she only realized she had lost her husband when his lifeless body was lying in her arms. She kept repeating that she thought they’d have more time.
We never have enough time. We can never know how much time we have. That’s why it’s important to live as if it could end at any moment. To love like today is the last day, because one day it will be. Maybe today, maybe in 10 years. Memento mori.

My career is finally beginning to take off, but it all feels so fragile. Constant improvement and planning seems to help. I see building resiliency as the only way I can navigate setbacks and even victories. To any one out there, struggling, just don’t quit, you are more resourceful and stronger than you think.

I don't know if I have body dismorphia, but since the start of my teen years, I haven't been proud of or even comfortable in my own body. I was a skinny kid, then a fat 11-13 y/o, now a skinny 15 y/o. I've tried changing in the past, but procrastination and a lack of patience always ruins my consistency. I want to do better this time. I plan on doing better this time. I will try my best to be better this time. Thanks for the motivation boost. I'm cheering on everyone who wants to do better this time. We can all do it.

Viktor E. Frankl's "Man's search for meaning" helped me not finding the answer right away for that particular "why" but to ask myself constantly about the actions I take on the journey. The deed you take should incorporate the meaning that you are seeking.
When you come to a milestone in your life that will make you question your existence remember that it's not you who is asking but rather who is asked and with that in mind also remember (as Nietzsche would say): "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how".

Hey Noel. I come from a horrible 2024 so far, from chronic health issues, lost jobs, left countries, and ended relationships I thought they were the one.
I wanted to thank you for this video. It is difficult to rebound, and even more to find a why for me at this time, but I don't wish to give up, rather living day by day. Excellent video Noel. I had a somewhat different experience. I was an alcoholic several years ago, and asking Why never seemed to work. Finally, after years of failure, instead of wondering what my Why was.. I started wondering what my Why Not was. Why NOT stop drinking.. Why NOT pick myself back up again.. Why NOT? And eventually I had no answer for that and.. well.. I picked myself back up. Whether it's your Why or your Why NOT that's holding you back, either way the first step is the same and it's not as hard as one might think. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So Noel, and all my lifting brothers and sisters out there.. let's step together!!

I always said that my reason for getting into the gym was my friends, but not in the sense of wanting to be like them, but in wanting to be there for them and growing together. Now most of them have slacked and the few others are just as determined as me. I hadn't been able to put a finger on it till this video but I've found my "why". To be the man, the father, the friend I would want, and to be strong but not fast to anger.
