85-year-old guy here: Beautiful to see Julia with her grandmother snuggled near each other, and the melancholy scene with Julia and Matt in the empty apartment. Take it from me - it feels less sad to be just thankful for the times we’ve been given. I have 40,000 photos from all my life (and some from family earlier) that through the years with a computer I’ve taken the time to organize. Now it a real blessing to review them as my life slows down. Question: Would I be able to see responses from my comments somehow? It would feel more like I’m sharing with someone. Thanks, Ralph
We had a house fire no one was hurt but we lost everything and the family pictures were lost and that is what we can't replace. Please backup your photos so you don't have to feel the loss.
God bless you, Ralph. I have twenty-five thousand pics and digitized maybe a thousand of the old 35 mm ones. They give immense pleasure, especially the slides from fifty years ago. I am glad for every one that isn’t lost to time. There is nothing sadder than an empty house that used to be your home. You bring to mind a quotation I hold to when the urge to cry hits: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
@@alexeyb6129 As long as the USSR existed, we people in the "WEST" had some worker privileges - salaries - pensions - health insurance, labor law ... after 1992 everything went downhill ..... unfortunately, working people are living in a new era of "slavery" ... as long as the USSR existed there was a balance in favor of the workers ... now the bosses do whatever they want !!! we live in a Roman galley ... we below at the oars ... they on the deck ...
When my mother died I just couldn't go back to her house. I couldn't walk into a place that is no longer home. It was home because of her, and she's gone. My condolences.
From USA here, wishing the Russian people peace, happiness and prosperity. Nice to see regular people, family, and places and appreciate we can’t paint all people with the same brush. Most people are just interested in living their own lives in peace with their neighbors.
Most Russians consider that the war with Ukraine has been made unavoidable by USA and EU. It's nice to read that you wish Russians all the best but in reality you support US governments that have been harming Russia on purpose from 1945 onwards.
Your grandmother will be looking down on you and will be so proud of what you are doing with your life. She will always be with you in your heart, wherever you are in the world. Be strong just as your grandmother would want you to be. Both of you take care in 2025, and I look forward to following your journey.
Julia , your nan will be looking down on you & Matt with a huge smile and lots of pride. knowing she helped raise a wonderful young lady, her hopes and dreams for you will be, for you both to enjoy life, and be happy, and we are lucky that we can come along on that journey with you both. Thank you, and I've just raised a glass in your Nans memory, thanks for sharing the times when you were back in Russia with her, you could see the love and respect between you both xx
Julia, sorry you had to go through such pain. Running away from pain and going into denial is the worst thing to do. I did that when my dad got cancer and passed away. I went into denial and several years later it caught up to me and made things pretty bad. It took me being away from my family, alone for almost 2 months to clear my head, cope and bring closure. I hope you will find your closure.
@@Obelix516 Try to read up of the FACTS before making silly remarks. If you don't know by now, this is an engineered proxy war by the US to weaken Russia.
@@Obelix516 If Russia were really waging an aggressive war, Ukraine would be similar to Palestine in terms of destruction and genocide. In general, the UN has no complaints about Russia's brutality and excess of force. This is a war with strict observance of the Geneva Conventions. Of course, war is always a bad thing.
Also, I am soooo happy that you have not shut yourself away from Kemerovo/Russia, I think your baboushka would be happy with that too. I enjoy all of your videos and adventures, but my favourites are when you visit Russia 💗
Are you sick Russia is a hell of drunken vodka Hitler lovers, war mongers North Korean drunks, Putin's Little buddies the little fat pig man, Kim kwang 🐷 piglet, Russia is so weak they have to get North Korea and Iran to help them. That makes Russia look really weird and sick and WEAK, happy birthday, love from Bangkok,,
Thank you for inviting me into your home. You have given me a fresh new look into life in Russia. As an American, I see how much alike we are in so many ways. I welcome you into my heart as a friend.
I feel your sorrow. I'm going through some similar pain at the moment. Life pushes us in different directions. We go through moments of deep reflection not knowing where to focus next.
Greetings from Canada, really happy to see the positive changes in Russia and Russian people doing well. Your videos are very fun to watch and very important to show people how warm and wonderful Russian people really are.
@@UnbelievableEricthegiraffe well,I don't watch any mainstream from any country these days(I speak 6-7 languages including Russian, and I have lived in several countries).I don't get my info from mainstream. But my impression from brief clips on internet from both Russia and the West is that Russian media is quite precise and truthful(to reality) and all Western media is just some parallel reality having very little to do with true state of things.Ppl like Tucker Carlson who want to do real objective journalism, get thrown out and are pressed to survive on their own(and boy he does it!).I find ppl with comments like you are normally monolingual Westerners mostly, who don't really have a clue about reality on the ground outside of their own bubble, created by your propaganda. Its quite annoying actually. And it's even more annoying your superiority tone,,like you have a fckin clue what you are talking about...😏
❤❤I’ve watched the two of you since the beginning, you have both grown in so many ways. Thank you for showing your journey to places off the beaten path and best to you on all adventures!
So sorry for your loss. Those vlogs with you and her are the best. I know it is so hard to come back to a place where there was such a connection and feel it without their physical presence. But, you know she is watching over you. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for sharing this changing moment in your life Julia, trust me it will get better moving forward over time. Once you accept the change the weight of grief becomes less. I lost my Nan in Dec 1999 a week before Xmas and its 25 years later and I still think about her everyday. So your Grandma may not be around physically anymore, but her presence will always be with you, take care of yourself Julia, and I'm sure Matt will be there for you as well don't fret about the videos as we all understand that something like this needs time to process and accept. Take care and much respect to you both, from me in the East End of London.
Been watching your guys for about a year or so and love your visits to Russia. Since the 90s I have wanted to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg. I always thought Siberia was just forest but you have surprised us with these videos, thank you!
Hello from the USA. Yes the older we get the less we feel connected to the places we grew up and its sad in a way. I enjoy your videos Matt and Julia please stay safe ❤
Why would you want to run away from what made (indeed still makes) you beautiful? You are a traveller. You're curious. You see the beauty in others and as you get older, you'll see the beauty in yourself. Coming home reinforces that. I am a lot older than you. I have been travelling since I was young and I recall asking the same questions as you are now and those who were older than me were saying what I'm telling you today. Bless you for your wonderful video. ♥
I left Germany and my home 1984 ,I left my parents, grandma, 8 siblings behind and moved to Melbourne. I came back 16 years later in January 2000 because my dad was dying. I saw everyone, grandma was now 95 but alive. My siblings were mostly married and had children. I didn't fit in anymore, they moved on and I didn't had enough time to catch up. They didn't knew my husband and my son , only my daughter, she was in Germany October 1999. She met my dad as well. Then in November 2000 my grandma past , 10 months after her only child. ( my dad) . Mum followed 6 years later and the house got sold and the family were falling apart. Then in October 2018 our youngest sibling died unexpected and it brought us back together. However, nothing can be reversed you have to move on otherwise it will hurt to much. ❤❤❤
Julia and Matt Even I got emotional and thanks for shearing your thoughts and feelings with us. I give you a big hug. My condolences to you, your mother and your siblings Didem
Julia, it's OK to have mixed emotions about returning to your grandmother's apartment. Just remember all of the happy times that you shared with your family. A phrase that I heard long ago often comforts me, "on a cold, lonely and wintry night remember that you can always wrap yourself in the warm memories of times gone by and rejoice in the love that you shared with close relatives and friends". Best wishes always to you and Matt and your family. 🫂❤️🙏🕊
Greetings from Finland. I got such a warm feeling when watching this video. Specially when the whole family were on the summer cottage and had the shaslik dinner. Just lovely!
Thank you both for sharing this amazing video with us all. Your gran would be so thrilled for you and Matt. That is one thing with change. Nothing ever stays the same. New directions, new paths for people. Be safe and stay warm.
Your Babouska would be proud you can't escape family life and where you come from and you should never want to. Live your life and be proud of where you come from. Nothing more special than family should be cherished. Live a good life and enjoy every minute. I've always been proud of my family especially my Grandma, Pap and Father of whom are no longer with me but I still think of them every day of my life
Thank you for bringing us home guys. Thanks for sharing so honestly, Julia. Sending blessings to your hearts from this American lady now in Sri Lanka who misses the snow!
Julia, it was so emotional when you walked into the apartment .... I was in tears with you 😪😪 But you know your Gran will be with you forever ...watching over you and in your Heart❤❤ By the way I think Kemerovo is Beautiful. From Joce in Dorset UK
HELLO PLEASE READ MY COMMENT: I just was sent your channel and I love you guys! What I love the most is that you show me and educate me about your home in Russia. There will always be terrible people who want to say horrible things to you, but just keep being your authentic selves. I am an American who does not like to put down anyone’s homeland, especially through a comment on their channel. I’m sorry people can be so cruel! I WOULD JUST BLOCK THEM! No country is perfect. That’s why we all need to live where we feel the happiest! I look forward to watching many more of your adventures! Love from Sunny California, beautiful beaches, windy, occasionally earthquakes and of course terrible fires. 😩😭 But, I still would never move. ❤️🥰❤️
I know you will not answer this comment I just know that but it’s very heartbreaking to see that this situation is being used to generate views at least in this particular manner God bless
Julia, I can relate to all you say. I think we are all guilty of running from what hurts, it’s our natural coping mechanism. For me age has helped with settling into a life that gives me peace. I do hope you find yours too. Loved that you are both so honest in your videos and seeing how things are in Siberia is fascinating. Love to all the family and look after yourselves. Big hugs from Kent Uk. ❤❤
My favorite episodes are of your time in Russia. Both of your perspectives are appreciated. I am sorry for your loss of your gran. I hope she is remembered in stories as well as memories and pictures.
Hello, did you use online translator? Everything is correct and understandable, just the word choice and word order show me - the text was written by a foreigner (just like my reply probably, as English is not my mother tongue as well)
I always loved Siberia and the Siberians. Very warm and friendly people in contrast to Moscow and Petersburg. I could live very happily in Tomsk and hope to return there after the war is over. Greetings and love to all the peoples of Siberia. Better days are surely coming for the world. 😅
Watched a few of your videos and really liked and enjoyed them so decided to subscribe. Thank you for sharing your very precious memories of your grandmother. It struck a bell with me and brought some tears to my eyes because I had a very special relationship with my grandmother whom my mum and I lived with until I was 13 when we emigrated to Canada. I did do a bucket trip back to my home 8 years ago and I was able to see my old home. (though not to go in) I understand going back, seeing changes and feeling strange.
You guys are the best. Thanks so much for sharing the world with us. While I will never identify with you in being in all those places, I certainly identify with you in the pain of the loss of your Gran. Life is hard and wonderful simultaneously. Keep up the good work !!
I always love your visiting videos. It's just like being there with you two. Your family is great, and i love your Hometown. Beautiful area, beautiful people. :)
I grew up like 5 miles from my own grandparents, so their house also was a 2nd home. My family has all moved away and both of those grandparents have now passed away, so it's just me. All I can say, Julia, is just remember that because freaking life is so unpredictable, home is where (and sometimes *with whom*) you make it. You can never lose your anchor if you take if wherever you go, right?
i like it a lot Matt mentioning things like "open-mindedness" and "breaking the stereotypes" and so on ... also Julia hinting at how if TH-cam exists in the distant futures, then little videos like this are going to be priceless for people who'll be living a century or more later, especially people from the same region ...
btw, when walking in deep freezing weather the good old way to keep exposed parts of our bodies warm is to rub them using our hands! works best on the nose and ears in particular! 🙂
No, propaganda at all. You don’t talk politics. You’re just showing us where Julia grew up. Russia is an amazing country since it’s so large and diverse. It has such rich history and culture. I’m so grateful I was able to go in 2010, because as an American who knows when visitors will be able to go there safely. Thank you for showing us your home, I’m sorry for your loss.
You are able to come here safely now. Don't bring drugs in your luggage, don't trespass onto government property while filming yourself doing so, don't refuse to co-operate with border control guards if they confront you while visiting a section of the border with a neighboring country - and basically, don't do anything you wouldn't do in the USA. And you'll be fine. But if you do plan to break the law, then don't come at all. There will never be a time when doing so will be 'safe' to do so as an American in Russia, or as anyone else.
My favorite M&J videos are always the ones where you spent time with your gran. Seeing the love being shared showed me that Russians aren't so different from Americans, even if other parts of our societies have such stark differences. I think about your gran a lot.
27C in the dacha? Yikes. We're at 17 to 21C max in our house in France. Outside temp -5 to +10 at the moment. Sounds toasty warm compared to where you are. Thanks for sharing Matt and Julia. Those pancakes look like wraps... We need to find a definition of a pancake... one filled with onions, mushrooms and potatoes just can't be called a pancake. A crepe is not a pancake. Is the word in Russian "pancake" or something different? Are there "sweet" pancakes, too? Same word? You two are such intrepid travelers... keep on rocking. Love the "frozen" mustache Matt.... go get warm. Bises, hugs and see you later this year!
Matt. Thanks for sharing your return to Siberia. It looks gorgeous and progressed at work. Julia is good to share your feeling and your sadness. I understand you very well, but facing reality is the best. We can not keep our love once for ever even if you try physically. But memories are kept for ever enjoy those memories always. Always come back to your roots. People love you so much there. Take care, thanks
Thank you for sharing the real feel of a Siberian city. It's such a shame that places like this are imagined only in terms of a false stereotyype. It was quite moving to share your meeting with family and to learn a little about the life of a Siberian family in modern day Russia. We are all so similar, dispite our obvious differences.
A wonderful video, its so hard when you lose someone you love, but even though you miss that person in your life you will love her even more as time goes on, and love is the most precious thing on earth 😊
thank u guys followed you for last 2 years This one for me the best you have done showing us where Julia is from and Matt clearly loves the place too And yes you are showing Siberia as it is warts and all Superb! Сердце и Вера as we say in .... wherever 🙃😉

So Very interesting. I just love your travel blogs. And yes it has definitely opened my mind! Your grandma is watching over you all the time and as many have said already in the comments she is so very proud of you. Sending my love & hugs & peace to you both.
What I see here in your video is an unbreakable chain of life, what is it? Family and that creates a warmth that no winter can destroy. Thank you Matt & Julia it was a very comforting video. Cheers Jon

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Julia! Life really is a journey. Your gran now travels with you wherever you both go. Thanks, too, for showing us Kemerovo. Just like so many other towns in the world that change. We’re all the same, aren’t we? Hugs to you on your journey through life!
I love all of your videos. If you would not mind please share again...your meaning of "pain is enviatable...suffering is optional ". I believe I can relate to that
Ukraine has always been Russia except for the last three decades 😁 And the war that is happening now has nothing to do with territory. It looks like you are not very educated on Russia/Ukraine history whether pre-1991 or post 1991.
I love your videos and have learned so much about Siberia and other places/ countries because of you two. I am so sorry for the loss of your Gran, Julia. We never really get over that kind of loss. Blessings on you both!😊❤
Matt, NO Propaganda, Siberia is a place that I would have loved to live in, as it is very similar to Northeastern Ontario Canada where I am born and bred from...Thanks You two!
There's now new genetic evidence that Native Americans came over from Siberia in many waves and two most recent waves came to North America only in Middle Ages during Genghis Khan Empire long before Columbus. Their genetic relatives are still in Siberia and Kazakhstan. It seems the Bering strait didn't form many thousands of years ago as was claimed before, but only in 15-16th century after some kind of tectonic catastrophe in 1520s. It used to be a Bering Bridge, not strait
I think I loved this film the most of all of yours. Because you shared more than just an experience, you showed us how you are growing and your thoughts about life are deep and brave. Please tell us more about your pholisophie if life. Thank you Julia for your personal sight of it!
Once again the algorithm gets it right! This was brilliant. You got a new subscriber! I spent two years in Almaty in 2000/01 and some of the scenes in your city reminded me of my time there. I believe it's been modernised a great deal since then too. I'd love to go back and visit some day, and to Kemerovo too. I've spent time in Russia (Moscow and Sochi), but never Siberia.
A little emotional, this video. Be well guys and thanks, for us westeners, we don't see much real images of Russia anymore, with the current situation and all. Makes me sad. I had plans to visit Moscow and see at least a tiny part of Russia, but then....Maybe in the future.
I am surprised your phones work in this cold weather. You guys are the cutest. Thank you for the video. As Ukrainian I would like to hear about how many people went to the war with Ukraine. It is very sad that some of people from Kemerovo are killing my people at the time of your stay in this town. We have prisoners from Kemerovo. You are showing how Kemerovo is growing while Ukrainian cities are being destroyed by Russians. Not fear at all.
Why don’t you travel to Ukraine to see with your own eyes? I’ve visited my mom this September. As I stayed there we were bombed twice. The sound of the racket is very scary. You hear it fly over you and then wonder where it will fall. It hit the town where my auntie lives, not far from her street. That day the racket killed the whole family and plus 3 more people in their 50th. It is very sad that you are calling me a troll instead visiting Ukraine and seeing with your own eyes.
Your critic spends his working days in a troll factory doing just that. It must be a horrible, soul destroying job. Maybe he deserves our pity that he can't get a decent job.
Welcome back to Kemerovo once again! ❤

85-year-old guy here:
Beautiful to see Julia with her grandmother snuggled near each other, and the melancholy scene with Julia and Matt in the empty apartment.
So many photos of our loved ones are a blessing! Enjoy!
Enjoy the pictures. Memories are sacred.
Lovely comment. Memories are precious and photos definitely help keep those memories alive ❤
Julia, I remember how your grandmother always happily welcomed you and Matt.
She was always so happy to have us ❤️🙏🏼
Her grandma got free flat from USSR and now she has it 😊
@@alexeyb6129 As long as the USSR existed, we people in the "WEST" had some worker privileges - salaries - pensions - health insurance, labor law ... after 1992 everything went downhill ..... unfortunately, working people are living in a new era of "slavery" ... as long as the USSR existed there was a balance in favor of the workers ... now the bosses do whatever they want !!! we live in a Roman galley ... we below at the oars ... they on the deck ...
Dearest Friend! How much I felt your loss of your beloved grandmother! Hold fast, better days are ahead! Many blessings to you!❤️❤️
Thank you very much ❤️❤️❤️
When my mother died I just couldn't go back to her house. I couldn't walk into a place that is no longer home. It was home because of her, and she's gone. My condolences.
So sorry about your grandmother. You always looked so close but she will always be with you in your heart.
I've watched many of your journeys back home. This was very touching. Thank you for sharing ❤

I am sure your grandma is watching over you wherever you’re at. Good to show my daughter this video from where I adopted her from.
Glad we can share it with you ❤️🙏🏼
Your grandmother will be looking down on you and will be so proud of what you are doing with your life. She will always be with you in your heart, wherever you are in the world. Be strong just as your grandmother would want you to be. Both of you take care in 2025, and I look forward to following your journey.
Thank you so much for your lovely message! 🙏🏼❤️
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, really appreciate it ❤️
Julia, sorry you had to go through such pain.
Thank you for showing us the real life and all the beautiful people of your hometown. 💋
Except the beautiful people fighting a war of aggression in Ukraine, you mean?! 😏
I generally don't believe in collective condemnation.
@carokind9538 oh, totally! But the elephant in the room should always be addressed, otherwise one runs the risk of appearing disingenuous.

Greetings from Canada, really happy to see the positive changes in Russia and Russian people doing well. Your videos are very fun to watch and very important to show people how warm and wonderful Russian people really are.
Exactly why I watch you both - you show it how it is. Keep up the good work guys!
The only propaganda is in the Western media 😂😂😂😂
@galimir Absolutely no propaganda in Russia at all. Because the Russian media says there is no propaganda, that must be correct, isn't it?

That’s good advice

Even I got emotional and thanks for shearing your thoughts and feelings with us. I give you a big hug.
My condolences to you, your mother and your siblings

Too bad Finland and Sweden didn’t have a real referendum regarding joining NATO. Now you have US military bases everywhere.

Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! ❤️
i like it a lot Matt mentioning things like "open-mindedness" and "breaking the stereotypes" and so on ... also Julia hinting at how if TH-cam exists in the distant futures, then little videos like this are going to be priceless for people who'll be living a century or more later, especially people from the same region ...
btw, when walking in deep freezing weather the good old way to keep exposed parts of our bodies warm is to rub them using our hands! works best on the nose and ears in particular!

I wish the US had the wisdom to build “tram” lines between road lanes.
I cannot believe how much Kemerovo has changed from 2004.
For sure, it’s a very different city from that of my childhood ❤️
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Julia! Life really is a journey. Your gran now travels with you wherever you both go. Thanks, too, for showing us Kemerovo. Just like so many other towns in the world that change. We’re all the same, aren’t we? Hugs to you on your journey through life!
I love all of your videos. If you would not mind please share again...your meaning of "pain is enviatable...suffering is optional ". I believe I can relate to that
❤❤❤ Next year Humankind must plan a Siberian Tour! With a stop in Julia,s aunt house to take away the Snow! Love to both
Hahaha, let’s do it! 😍 Love to you too!
Saludos Alejandro... Interesting idea, but no way I could do it in winter! Bittersweet video clip.
All my love to you and Matt. Your Gran will always be with you!!!
They certainly have become more territorially aggressive. The motherland, What a myth. Russia is Russia. Ukraine is not Russia.
This is exactly the reason I became interested in Russia in the first place! Incredible isn't it?!
@@GingerBreadMan144not really, it looks like a bleak sh1thole. Not surprising, it's Mordor.
A simple thank you. Please continue your "down to earth" type of videos.
Whatever you say is the truth troll
I am a real person with real stories. Why don’t you visit Ukraine. You don’t need a visa to Ukraine with American passport.
