Carpet Removal (Gripper)

  • I realize that this has nothing to do with dentistry - however - I searched for hours to find something about removing these things and came up empty handed. We're moving the family and the BOSS wanted the carpets out - so - being the generalist that I am - I can do something simple like that. And it is easy - if you have time, patience, and a few simple tools. Of course, I'm not a carpenter or carpet disassembler person - however - the simplicity of carpet gripper removal is based on the type of wood those damned nails are hammered in to. One room took 2.5 hours and the other room took .5 hours - based on type of wood floor.

I used a large flat screw driver and aimed it about 45 degree angle just beside the nail that goes into the floor, and under the gripper, and then hammered it in as far as it would go. That usually lifted the nail out of the floor. When it didn't, I'd just continue with the next nail in line. Eventually even the reluctant nail would lift out by itself. Very easy process once you get the hang of it :) Thanks for the video.

Thank you for your advice! I just ripped up all of my carpet and padding. I wasn't sure how to get the nasty grippers up! I have concrete that my grippers are nailed into. It's going to take some time getting these up. Thank you for your help!

So basically no better way than I was doing already 🤣🤣
Also put some shoes on Dude, these splinters and nails are vicious!
Actually I would recommend people use safety goggles, especially when pulling out of concrete floors, like I have had to do in my house, as the concrete literally explodes when pulling up the nails!

Thank you so much, seems silly but I've been unable to get the damned gripper up yet. Having seen you also struggled, but do have a system, I will have another go, starting with the flat screwdriver this time! Many thanks!

I WISH I had a cup of tea -I'm on a timeline as established by the BOSS. With 3 young boys, I'm starting to wonder why I'm doing this.

I use a Stanley wonder bar and lift the whole piece up, leaving it intact, pulling the nails out with board as I go.
