How to make a Control Rig FAST & Animate a Skeletal Mesh in Unreal Engine - EASY & SIMPLE TUTORIAL

  • In this TUTORIAL, I show how YOU can make custom Control Rigs and character animations. This is the process I am using for my short film in UE5.2 by using my custom Control Rigs for my characters and animating them in Level Sequences.
    The default Unreal Engine Mannequins come with prebuilt Control Rigs, but if you want to use your own custom character (skeletal mesh) that you made or got from the Unreal Engine Market Place as I did with my Bloody Hazmat Model and AI Zombie Model, you will have to create a Control Rig from scratch. Inspired by ‪@WoodyDevs‬ process of Easy Control Rig, I made this video. WoodyDevs showed a simplified way of using Item Arrays in the Control Rig Blueprints. That way, you don't have to manually drag and drop each bone and control independently.
    Then I show the process of editing the bone controls into useful shapes.
    In the second part of this video, I show how to make a custom Idle Animation. You can use this process for any type of animation, such as a running animation, jumping animation, or even longer non-repeating animations for animating a character's movement throughout an entire short film.

    For All who struggling in newer version in UE5 and did everything right and cant see the control rigs inside the control rig preview .. make sure to choose all the rigs we created from the left under Rig hierarchy and from the right click on "Visible" under "Shape" menu .. and VIOLA !!!
    If the rigs control are too large, under "Shape Transform" click on the lock next to Scale and set it to lower values then choose the "Shape" to be hexagon thick then press compile ... save

      @@BodhiTheMovieMaker when making new animations for the same skeletal mesh , do I need to make a new sequencer or can I just scrubb everything from my idle animation and make a walk animation and save it the same way ?

    • @BodhiTheMovieMaker
      @BodhiTheMovieMaker  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Luciferdelight I would recommend making a new sequence for each new animation you want to make. So you don’t lose your animations in case you want to tweak them quickly later. That being said, yes, you should be able to delete the idle animation, and then make a new animation on the same sequence, if you’d prefer.

      @@BodhiTheMovieMaker well when i tried this method. with my own custom model, the control rig wasnt moving. so i had to do some searching around. its possible that i was adding controls to a alreadly rigged control rig character. because , with mixamo you can use their skeleton and what not. and can generate a control rig for you from blender so. i imported that into UE5 and i followed this tutorial afterwards.

    Thank you. Your tutorial is amazing. However, why do we need to do laborious hand animation of the skeleton mesh in UE when we have so many choices of mocap system? It's just so easy to put on a mocap suit to teleport your face+body movement via livelink in UE in runtime.

    • @BodhiTheMovieMaker
      @BodhiTheMovieMaker  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the kind words!
      Yes I agree mocap animation is getting so much more accessible. In fact I made a tutorial on using live link to do facial animation. I have yet to tinker much with full body mocap. To my knowledge there is no free way to do body mocap. MoveAI is the best option there. For people who don’t want to spend lots of money on a suit. The reason I focused on hand animation (though quite tedious at times) is it’s a fundamental skill all animators should have no matter what mocap stuff they use so they know how to edit their animations if need be. And it’s the free option👍🏻😊 thanks for the comment. Also feel free to let me know if you have any video topic request👌🏻

The creative idea and the output of their mind is just somehow belong to that gaming field as well. I'd like to see more of your video topics pertaining to how to ingest/connect the traditional filmmaking know-how, concept and mindset to/with the UE Cinematic tool.
