    THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL TOOL THAT I'M GOING TO CRY.
    I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS AMAZING SOFTWARE AND TOOL EXISTS. IT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I HAVE EVER SEEN I AM LOST FOR WORDS.

    Dude this is great, now I feel like I wasted a lot of time trying to create my own tree generator!, This one seems to solve a lot of the things I was not able to , time to take it for a spin and see what I can do!, Thank you for the tutorial master Simon and thanks Side Fx for the tools.

    awesome tutorial Simon! I would love to see the technique where you blend between 2 UV sets using the vertex color inside Unreal.

      2uv is quite flawed as it's generate tangent basis problems. If you want to use normal map it will be wrongly shaded

    I know it's less procedural, but it would be nice to have the ability to load in a custom mesh (scanned trunk) and use it as a base.
    But beside that, it's an awesome tool! Thanks :)

      Yes this is a feature I should have included honestly... You can totally add this yourself though. Try the 3D straight skeleton Labs node on a megascans (for example) tree trunk. Get the curve from this node and create the necessary attributes like length, radius, etc (just see what the trunk node outputs to the branch node). Should be doable, and let me know if you need any help with it!

    +1 for content.
    +10 for recording Houdini in HD instead of full HD. Most of modern tutorials of Houdini are recorded in full HD, the problem is that the text is too small to see, and TH-cam made it worse by tinkering the quality to save bandwidth. It's a nightmare if it's a VEX-heavy tutorial.

      Its 1080p just interface size increased, and absolutely agree. When its 4k/60fps - it just perfect for 1080p screen lol.

    I have updated SideFX Labs (18.5.408) but I only find "Labs Quick Basic Tree".

    Hello, I am following along the video and the 'Thigmotropism" parameter is greyed out for me. I am unable to enable it. However, if I plug in the tree controller, a new checkbox called "Override Tropism" appears. If I enable this then I can enable Thigmotropism in the tree_trunk_generator1.

      This seems to be because there is an overall Thigmotropism in the controller, and you can override it in the trunk and branches if you want.

      I also am unable to enable Thigmotropism, so thanks for the comment about the controller.
      @Houdini, any idea why this bug might appear? I am using the non-commercial version for reference.

    Thank you! What about a type of tree? Are there any options to create for example Oaktree? Because a tree cannot be a random type.

    this is still not as realistic as speed tree, its close but still not there, it's so good when a niche tool gets made obsolete by a bigger DCC, having everything under one roof makes life so much easier,
    a good tree generator combined with height fields would be make H the best lanscape generator
