  • The Honda Super Cub is the biggest selling vehicle of all time, with over 100 million units sold since the first C100 was introduced in 1958.
    The latest C125 was introduced in 2018, and the 2022 version has been updated with a Euro5 engine, improved suspension and the welcome addition of a pillion seat and passenger footpegs.
    But does the latest incarnation stay true to the Cub philosophy? Insidebikes spent a fortnight with one to find out...

    I just got one, and had to ride it back from the dealer a couple hundred miles away due to current scarcity in the USA. It happened to snow unexpectedly during the ride. This bike handles excellent in low traction situations due to its centralized engine being sprung mass, and big wheels. I doubt any CVT, engine-on-swingarm scooter could have handled so forgiving. I'm loving this bike so far. Does everything, but could used another 10mph of top speed. I'll try some mods to get it.

      @@chellewizzie in a tuck maybe 55mph on level ground (I weigh 225). Going up the hill, I had to stay behind a slow going semi-truck. Downhills in a tuck, like 65mph. Definitely want to try to find side-roads when possible.

    I live in the U.S. and own a ‘21 Super Cub. I also own a ‘20 MT-07. My Super Cub is so much fun to ride around town. It is very economical, 119 MPG (U.S.) the last time I filled up. I find the 4 speed centrifugal clutch transmission much more enjoyable to ride than a CVT, (I actually would love the 5 speed and clutch like the ‘22 Grom and Monkey). The larger 17” wheels give the bike much better handling than scooters. As mentioned in the video, the Super Cub is obviously a labor of love for Honda, the fit and finish are exceptional for a bike in this class.

      I suspect you're riding it in 'spirited' style with a bit of heft to lug around. A woman I met in Austin with one is getting 160mpg. Granted she isn't fat as a MagaDumper, about 5'4" 110 not looking to race any Tesla Twink fan boys, just getting to her classes and law clerk job. Probably too intellectual of a travel option for most Americans that accumulated to much social media orange fat between their deaf lazy ears.

      Honda made in Japan: High quality then and now. I hope the Cubs farmed out to India and China factories can sustain the high standards. But let's imagine not. It will still be superior to most any other option pragmatically. Any modern fuel injected single by Honda is going to be excellent. Stop looking for planting BS reasons to pretend Tesla junk is any good for the environment when a 125cc getting 140mpg requires no strip mining for lithium and grid power to make and charge batteries. Tesla propaganda post.

    • @o00scorpion00o
      @o00scorpion00o 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bought a VW id.3 Tour 5 EV 1 year 10 months ago, to get a new petrol or diesel with the kit I have would have cost more money + the EV costs me less to run than a 125 for my long commutes.
      You're correct about the environmental impact making the batteries, but this is the same for all electronic devices that need batteries.
      Some good news is that the LifeP04 battery used in the Tesla Model 3 and Y standard range uses no cobalt , a step in the right direction + this battery has considerably longer life but there's always a catch, the LifePo4 battery is less energy dense so can't provide as much range as the longer range batteries that use cobalt but for electric cars that offer smaller batteries LiFeP04 is a very attractive option.
      They still need Lithium of course but using cobalt free batteries is always good.
      It would be much better of course if more people used scooters but a lot can't because they need to carry kids around, school runs etc, but there are probably many more who could be on scooters, on my commute 99% of the cars on the road have only the driver, the other 4 seats are empty.
      Hydrogen would be good if there was a network of filling stations but it's dangerous. + it's very energy intensive to produce hydrogen making it hugely more inefficient than charging EV batteries and currently the majority of hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels.

    I've been riding a Yamaha Vstar 1100 Silverado for 15 years and was happy with it. But I am old now and really only need it for light highway and in town driving. The mileage makes it inexpensive on fuel, my vstar get 40 MPG and this is supposed to get 188 MPG. So this scouter is appealing to me though I am 6-2 and think it wont be a good fitting ride. Haven't test driven on yet but my Vstar is for sale which will make it not too much. A top box is necessary to carry food and things which I would have to fabricate one. This scout is on my radar but so is the NMAX.

    I'm surprised he says it would be better with a cvt transmission, in fact the only reason I would consider buying this is because of the manual gearbox which provides better fuel economy (you can ride at low rpm in a high gear), potentially less maintenance, better control in difficul road conditions or long uphill sections etc. All the utilitarian features that are associated with it depend on it being manual.

    • @matthewS993
      @matthewS993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely, plus it would effectively make the most sold motorcycle in history into a scooter. I own the cub and the gearbox is brilliant, no clutch lever. @matthewS993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tosh2012 indeed, the fourth gear on this bike is basically a cruising gear to lower rpm and improve fuel economy. Averages around 150mpg, with the highest 180mpg I've got due to using the top gear, belt wouldn't offer that

      @jackvoss5841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The CVT transmissions are leaving a dismal trail of wreckage along behind them. I don’t know if it’s because the basic design is bad? Or if designers are simply making them too skimpy for the job? Real gears have a long and wide history of success.

      We Americans are too fat. On the facts is why. Watch the movie Breaking Away. 'Obesity' of the era was the main character's dad. He would be the neighborhood fatty. Today? "Wow, dad bod in ok shape!" The movie scenes showing crowds didn't require hand selection of normal sized humans. That was our normal fitness back then. Internet and video games. It wasn't the fast food. It is the sitting doing nothing. Social media addiction and video games blobs.

    I own one '83 6v 50cc(japanese version) and one '85 12v 72 cc(European version) super cubs. Very reliable and rugged machines despite their age with very cheap spare parts. They were meant to be affordable to common folk, something the new c125, unfortunately, is not ( costs 4.000+ €).

    CVT transmissions are not as fuel efficient as gears and chain final drive. Where would you put storage without shoving half the engine onto the swinging arm like a scooter and spoiling the handling? If you want a scooter go and buy one and leave the cub alone!

You'd think NYC and Boston would be direct delivery of containers full. But automakers and electric bicycle movement trying to ban this perfect basic transportation Honda Cub. The Tesla criminals know their junk is overpriced landfill threatened by a $3k 150 mpg reliable scooter. Boycott Tesla buy Honda Cub!!!

      You can carry a tiny can of gas with you. It can go 150 miles + in correct normal riding respecting the machine, not abusing it. The can will get you 150 miles back home. However: There's no such thing electric or gas of a light machine that can't go 100mph that's any fun on long voyages. If you needed a bigger gas tank to piddle about town, you weren't ready to ride a scooter to begin with.

I hate it when motorcycles pass my vehicle INCHES away. What am I going to do if they go pass me, scrape my vehicle and keep going? Am I going to chase them?
