Strictly speaking, it's not necessary to watch, but it does explain why the Tardis defenses were down at the beginning of this episode. It is a fun minisode though. 😊
Yeah. She’s considered the “Mother” of Doctor Who to Sydney Newman who came up with the idea’s “Father”. She really shaped the show into what it became.
It's a tiny almost insignificant moment in the episode but the Doctor twitching his head in sync with the malfunctioning "Max, Max, Max" Host is just one of 900 million reasons why David Tennant is such a legend. It fits perfectly with his Doctor, and almost certainly feels like something David improvised in the moment. Not sure why I felt that needed mentioning but it always makes me smile whenever I rewatch this ep 😅
What I love about this episode is you see what is probably the strongest and most tragic of the Doctor's abilities, which is to inspire others to heroism even if it costs them their lives.
The first time that the Doctor was heard saying “Allons y”, in Army of Ghosts, he mentions that it would be great to meet someone named Alonzo so he could say “Allons y, Alonzo” to them. Bernard Cribbins, who plays the old man selling papers, was a national treasure in the UK. This isn’t his first experience with Doctor Who - in the ‘60s, the first two Dalek stories were adapted into movies starring Peter Cushing. Bernard Cribbins appeared in the second one as one of the Doctor’s companions, PC Tom Campbell. Time Crash (the Children In Need mini-episode) provides a little extra context for why the TARDIS defences were down. It’s worth a watch even if you don’t react to it. With inflation, Mr Copper’s million pounds in 2008 is about 1.7 million pounds (or 2.1 million US dollars) in today’s money. This is the first mention in New Who of Kasterborous, the constellation in which the Doctor’s home planet of Gallifrey is located. Classic Who tended to use “constellation” as a synonym for “galaxy”. Verity Lambert was the show’s original producer, and co-creator alongside Sidney Newman. She was one of the focal characters of An Adventure in Space and Time, a film about the origin of the show that was made for the 50th Anniversary. She died during production of this episode, which is why she gets a little tribute at the end. In Human Nature, John Smith claims that his parents were named Sidney and Verity.

First off, congratulations! Hope you had a wonderful day. 2. I cried a lot during this knowing what would happen to the characters. Mr. Copper having a happy ending makes me cry so much. 3.This was actually the most watched episode of Doctor Who live with 13.31 million viewers on Christmas day! With me being one of them. 2007 feels so long ago now :'). 4. Clive Rowe, who played Morvin, is most known with people my age (mid to late 20s) for playing the character of Duke in the childrens show Tracey Beaker. My amazement of seeing one of my favourite characters growing up in my favourite show was amazing and it always hurts knowing what happens to him :') I have a newly found love with this episode in the last few years and probably ranks as my favourite Christmas episode!
*Most watched live episode of New Who. The most watched live episode of Doctor Who as a whole was part four of the 4th Doctor serial, "City of Death", which got 16.1 million! In fact, parts two and three also beat this episode (14.1 million and 15.4 million respectively). City of Death did have the advantage that ITV was blacked out due to a strike at the time, though.
Two things. Firstly, I like the edit when you snapped your fingers, and there was a callback to Adam's computer head from season one. Secondly, the tardis has a safety feature on it to prevent things crashing into it, like the Titanic. It was shut off while not being used, and you see the Doctor switching it back on while still holding the Titanic life raft.
@joshuajoshua2732 Which is why the Doctor explained why it happened. It's defenses were down, meaning it was temporarily vulnerable. He need to reset the defenses to restore the Tardis to its normal shape.
I read a fanfic once where the (10th) Doctor landed in the Queen's gardens and talked with her, and she wanted to give him some kind of gift for all he's done, protecting Britain and the world, but she knows he's not going to stay long, and all she has on her to give is some chocolate a child gave her during one of her visits to a hospital or whatever, so she gives him the chocolate. It was a sweet (of course) and well written fic, and I wish I could remember the title or author.
The last survivor of the real RMS Titanic, Millvina Dean, was still alive at the time Voyage of the Damned aired. She got upset when she found out Doctor Who was doing a Titanic episode. A BBC spokesperson reached out to her to tell her the episode was going to be about a fictional spaceship.
love this episode ,I am a fan of the Poseidon adventure(1972) so despite not being a tennant fan its one of my favourite christmas specials. also love the reactions its a joy to see these episode through fresh eyes . looking forward to seeing further reactions in febuary.
The actor Bernard Cribbins, who played the old man in London, was almost the Doctor. During casting for the 4th Doctor it came down to two prospects: Cribbins and Tom Baker. Geoffrey Palmer (the captain) was in two previous Dr Who stories with the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee
Try saying Balacavalata 10 times fast after a bottle of tequila. Kylie Minogue would have been an exceptional companion but no one could afford her fees in all likelihood. It was likely an honour for her to appear on there because Dr. Who is huge in Australia along with the rest of the British Commonwealth. But things are going to get cool in the future, a future you couldn't have dreamed of.
Another spoiler-free comment below :D Edit: also, congratulations on your wedding! I want to mention again that you should definitely watch the Children in Need Special Time Crash. It's only like 10 minutes long and takes place between the Series 3 finale and this Christmas special. It is well worth the watch and gives some more explanation for why the TARDIS' shields were down. I am so excited for you to start Series 4! Its easily my favorite series of modern Doctor Who, and has some really great episodes. I think you are really going to enjoy it.
@@noobishnemo6745 no, you said it takes place between the finale and the Christmas special. I was being pedantic about the timing, since there's still roughly a minute of finale after Time Crash occurs, even though it's a cliffhanger for the Christmas special.

You know it just occurred to me: RTD probably felt like he had to balance out Martha's survival and all those deaths the Master caused being reversed in the season finale by filling this special with death and tragedy. He was like, "Okay, I'll give you a break for now, but come Christmas, your tears are MINE."
There was no way Kylie Minogue was ever going to become a regular companion she's far too famous for that. Verity Lambert was the original producer of "Doctor Who" back in the 1960's she was also the very first female producer of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). I'm very surprised this christmas special was your least favourite considering since "Voyage of the Damned" is one of the most highest rated watched christmas programmes of christmas 2007 as well than any other "Dr. Who" christmas episodes in general there were high stakes there was death, killer robots that's a very "Doctor Who" episode i mean what more could you ask for?. The angel robots were a nod to the Classic Who Robots from a Tom Baker serial called "The Robots of Death" that look very similar. This is the first episode in NuWho to introduce the drumbeat version of the "Dr. Who" theme. This episode was still being filmed in SD at the time HD doesn't come until 2009. The actor who plays Mr. Copper is Clive Swift who is best know as the long suffering husband Richard Bouquet (pronounced Bucket) from the 1990's british sitcom "Keeping Up Appearances".
Too famous and she had a brand new album out was about to tour again so definitely no time to spend 9 months filming in Cardiff and than do a promo tour
4:10 Steven Moffat makes EXTENSIVE USE of the Short Interlude with better editing than was done for Time Crash. His interludes were written and crafted to be watched as part of the season (series) more and more during his time as showrunner for 11 and 12. To the point where the interludes themselves have actual plot points and full introductions to episodes themselves. I feel you short yourself if you dont at least watch them.
HBO Max doesn't play them with the episodes. I have watched all of NuWho twice, and the only one I watched was the one before the 50th Anniversary Special with Paul McGann. I didn't find anything missing or confusing.
Millvina Dean was the youngest passenger and was the last remaining survivor of the Titanic. Her father died during the sinking. She was still alive when Voyage of the Damned aired and she wasn’t happy with it. She thought it disrespectful to make entertainment out of a tragedy that tore so many families apart.
I can't even entirely blame her, considering people now have Titanic(movie)-themed parties. Feels weird, man. But I wonder if she knew the context that it wasn't the real Titanic, and in fact naming the ship Titanic was a real low blow by the villain, a private, cruel joke he thought no passenger would catch onto.
@@kateorgera5907 that’s how the BBC responded I think. They said it’s a spaceship and not meant to be the real Titanic. Still it has the same name and outer design. Talking generally, it is in bad taste to make light of a tragedy that destroyed many lives.

You've already gotten well into S4, so you know who this absolutely wonderful man is.
You asked so - this was the first episode they upscaled the production into HD for broadcast
The second series 4 special was the first time the episode was filmed in HD? Or do you mean this was the 1st to film normally and then upscale it to HD before airing?
@@obiwankenobi687The BBC HD channel launched in December 2007. But this didn't air on it, as they only aired HD content, and Doctor Who didn't go HD until 2009.
@@MuchWhittering many shows started filming ready for HD a few years before it became standard. Did Doctor Who start filming for HD?
@@obiwankenobi687 This is correct. There is a noticeable quality upgrade though with S4, so I presume it's some kind of filming/post processing advancement that wasn't SD -> HD.
they got better cameras for this and season 4, but didn't start mastering episodes in HD til the 2009 specials
I've seen this episode a bunch of times and only JUST realized this episode is basically Poseiden Adventure in space.
It's interesting to remember that the heavenly hosts are not good or evil they just gollow orders of whoever is in charge.
Remember the guy in the kiosk all alone in London at Christmas and remember the name Mr Copper.
My amazement of seeing one of my favourite characters growing up in my favourite show was amazing and it always hurts knowing what happens to him :')
I have a newly found love with this episode in the last few years and probably ranks as my favourite Christmas episode!
Congratulations on your wedding by the way!
God bless Wilfred Mott.
(He's they newspaper seller that did not leave London)
my favourite
Oh, and you will see Alonzo again.
Sorry, spoilers. ;)
@@craigmorris4083 Maybe don’t? Like why put a spoiler in for no reason?
I can't believe how utterly season 4 this Christmas special was
3:43 yeah you should have watched time crash....
Which is odd because the TARDIS is meant to be indestructible so it shouldn't had crashed into anything at all.
@joshuajoshua2732 Which is why the Doctor explained why it happened. It's defenses were down, meaning it was temporarily vulnerable. He need to reset the defenses to restore the Tardis to its normal shape.
Such a fun ep-and lord, even all these years later David Tennant turning on The Flirt™️ when the Doctor meets someone new is just 🫠🫠🫠
One of my favorite holiday specials, think it was well done and filled with characters you could care for quickly.
It was a sweet (of course) and well written fic, and I wish I could remember the title or author.
love when she says accidentally clairvoyant things lol there were a bunch this video
Nice callback on the snapping, Xander!!!
I hope it never stops haha
Congratulations on the wedding btw
Hope it turned better than Astrid’s and Mini-Maul’s.
"you're not falling Astrid... You're flying"
Just like Rose in Titanic.
Or Buzz Lightyear.
Congratulations ❤ hope you had a lovely wedding! Also merry Christmas!
Thanks for this lovely reaction. So excited for you to start series 4 🎉
This is basically The Titanic and The Poseidon Adventure combined but in space with murder angel robots.
Whoever thought that up deserves a raise.
Astrid not getting to be a full-time compaion was the biggest injustice this show ever faced!
Astrid = anagram of Tardis!
Little easter egg you may have missed
Try saying Balacavalata 10 times fast after a bottle of tequila. Kylie Minogue would have been an exceptional companion but no one could afford her fees in all likelihood. It was likely an honour for her to appear on there because Dr. Who is huge in Australia along with the rest of the British Commonwealth. But things are going to get cool in the future, a future you couldn't have dreamed of.
Isn't in banakaffalata?
Edit:
It's Bannakaffalatta
Oh. She is going to LOVE the next companion.
"Ah. They're flying. They fly now." *insert "OF COURSE" glance
Kylie would have been a stunningly great companion.
Another spoiler-free comment below :D
Edit: also, congratulations on your wedding!
I mean, technically, Time Crash takes place between Martha leaving and the ship hitting the TARDIS in the last minutes of the finale alone.
@JakkFrost1 Isn't....isn't that what I said?
@@noobishnemo6745 no, you said it takes place between the finale and the Christmas special. I was being pedantic about the timing, since there's still roughly a minute of finale after Time Crash occurs, even though it's a cliffhanger for the Christmas special.
Hey, Congratulations Mrs. FunnyLilGal!!!!!!
Fantastic reaction to my favourite of these Dr Who Xmas/New Year specials, laughed a lot with the "Darth Maul's little brother" comment.
Also massive congratulations on getting married & love the Vegas Golden Knights top as I'm an nhl fan too here in uk
I know you stated there will not be a reaction to Time Crash but if you ever feel like watching it even in your own time it is a great minisode!
But it helps if you've seen the classic episodes which she hasn't. I don't think it has the same effect for those who haven't.
+1 once you get to the Matt Smith era onwards it's really worth weaving in minisodes into regular ep reactions
HBO Max doesn't play them with the episodes. I have watched all of NuWho twice, and the only one I watched was the one before the 50th Anniversary Special with Paul McGann. I didn't find anything missing or confusing.
Definitely would need to search TH-cam for the minisodes
People will ask other actors who have played the Doctor to read famous Doctor speeches and this is one of them.
@@kateorgera5907People make parties over the real Titanic?! That's messed up.
Tiny spoiler alert..................eventually you'll understand the significance of the Doctor angrily saying "No more" at 22:06. Not that it was significant yet, it'll be a while. I very much doubt it was planned.
It might not have been planned but still it hits hard knowing what it will mean in the future.
No more.😅
If anyone deserves a life of leisure and rest...it's Richard Bucket (pronounced Bouquet). IYKYK.
I must be feeling particularly raw right now because each heroic sacrifice hit harder than the last and cumulatively harder than they have in previous viewings I did of this episode. Big feelings coming back to these reactions for this episode. There's a lot of the end of Season 2 and most of Season 3 that I haven't actually seen; I'll have to come back to this series of reactions after I've watched them.
Total nightmare on set apparently
As cool as the Doctor's "I'm the Doctor," speech was, as an amateur astronomer, I am compelled to point out that introducing your homeworld to aliens by constellation is nonsensical. Their constellations won't be the same. Sounded badass for sure, though.
I was raising an eyebrow higher than a Vulcan when the Doctor said that.
Gallifreyan cultural difference maybe?
Well unless kasterborus is well known constellation. Remeber Timelord were a thing before time war. Mighty and powerfull civilisation. And There may be usage of using that to name it. Same as with Sol 3 being introduced as Earth despite that being name given by Humans on earth.
If memory serves, classic Who was a bit slapdash when exchanging "constellation" and "galaxy".
The tardis getting damaged by the titanic when the iceberg didn’t is explained in the mini episode that took place before this and the last episode you watched called “time crash”. Basically he just had the defences down for a moment
Congratulations hun he's a lucky man. Love your videos and sharing in your who travels 😊* also welcome to the 1st of many great doctor quotes *😊
