“You’ve redecorated, I don’t like it.” That is a line that started with the Second Doctor and has been used by a lot of them since then.
Usually in reference to each of the Doctors having their own TARDIS.
"Oi! You never do!"
The children singing at the end about River killing the Doctor is bone chilling. Gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
It's the dolls from a few episodes ago
@@thepandorica1660 is it really? I never connected that
When is children singing NOT terrifying?
@@godmagnusSerious question? Sacred music. Give a listen to the opening portion of JS Bach’s St. Matthews Passion: it is scored for chamber orchestra with antiphonal SATB choruses and children’s chorus in front of (or behind) the orchestra in the center. The effect is breathtaking, especially considering the fact that it was written in 1724 and provided the church audience the experience of “battling” choruses left and right as the Good Friday service was rendered in song. (Of course it’s in German but the words are essentially a paragraph that you can read in English in advance so you know what they’re dinging about. The entire piece is over two hours long-I’m just referring to the opening, which is usually six-seven minutes.) Not that I expect most people will do so but… I’m answering your challenge question! 😄
"....And everyone else is....PEASANTS! That's a bit unfortunate"
(one of my favorite lines in the show)
That, and the grinding of the pepper mill across Craig's shoulders, are my favourite parts of the episode. :D
That moment when he saw Amy and Rory, it been along time for him since he saw them. It 200 years for him when he drop them back at home. The Doctor is very old now at this point of the show and I keep forgetting that because The 11th Doctor has a younger face. That ending was bone chilling. It must have been scary for River knowing she about to kill the man she loves. Cannot wait to next week episode. The finale.
One more episode before we get into yet another series! Is it just me or does it go by too quickly?! I guess it does take me 3 months to upload a series on the channel - goodness. By the time we are done, I'll be a few years older 🤭
@@julesreactsI interpreted the Doctor’s wife title as metaphorical-the closeness not-withstanding.
If you think back River’s presence involved her leaving prison-and returning to serve out her sentence. Both fairly and unfairly.
At this point in the series, a season is typically 10-13 episodes plus a longer special.
In my-and many other-opinions, the 50th anniversary special will be coming up soon and is really spectacular. You have a great episode to look forward to. Come what may.
In the US we know Craig as the (retired) host of the Late Late Show, the successor to Craig Ferguson. The Late Late Show was a comedy/talk show broadly based on the British Graham Norton Show (whereas the Late Show-current host Stephen Colbert, who was the successor to David Letterman. Letterman’s show was variant of Johnny Carson). His appearance on Doctor Who had a different impact-delightful, surprising, but different.
I loved Tennant, but Matt Smith managed to equal my affection for Tom Baker (#4, one of two (#5 being the other) inspirations Matt took for his Doctor interpretation. He said he watched them all but he knew #4 and #5 as a child).
8:29 That's the late, much-loved actress Lynda Baron, making her 3rd appearance in Doctor Who. She'd previously played a kind of space-pirate captain in the 5th Doctor story "Enlightenment", and her voice (as a ballad-singer) featured heavily in the 1st Doctor story "The Gunfighters" way back in 1966.
She was so great in Enlightenment!
Well, that song's stuck in my head now...all 6,000 verses...
I’m impressed with you remembering Petrichor
It's a word I've heard only a few times in my life, so it sticks with me!
She remembers things like no one else
@ that is so true! She is a great reactor.
I've alwyas worked on the assumption the ship had something to do with the events of The Next Doctor. All we knew about the Cybermen in that was they had fallen through cracks in time, so it is possible the ship fell through with them in it. Some escaped after the ship got buried before being defeated by Ten, then the ship got buried even deeper over time. The crew spent the next century in hibernation until the new power lines provided them with the energy boost needed to awaken.
I seem to remember back in The Impossible Astronaut you speculated that the little girl in the space suit was Amy's child and I squealed at the time. And here we are all these episodes later and River in the space suit under the water with that creepy singing. This is such a great episode and it was great fun watching you have the best time, Jules until of course the show put a stop to that! Why do we put ourselves through it... :)
They sure do love the shock endings! Always out of the blue, just like they do with Buffy and Angel. We could be having the best time only for the last few minutes to be a painful kick in the guts 😭😭
lol, nothing more heartwarming than seeing J-bird enjoying a cute interaction with Craig and the baby. This is one of my favorite 11th Doctor episode.
This was such a great episodes! Lots of laughs, tears, and good times before the end... 💜
Not only does fictional Star Trek exist in the Doctor Who universe, but he's actually visited the Enterprise in the comic books, so it actually exists also.
Because of this episode, I literally have ¨Stormageddon¨ on my list of possible names for my next pet lol
One of my cats is named Stormageddon. :)
My nephew's name means "Little dark son of a rebel lord."
23:42 yeah they really pull the rug out from under you with the ending
Enjoyed the reaction. Looking forward to seeing you watch the craziness of the next one.
Thank you!! They always get us with these surprise endings, don't they 😭
11 will always be my favourite Doctor! I never thought anyone could surpass he of the scarf and jelly babies but Matt is a superstar 🌠
you know you're a true Who fan when you see the cybermen a just think "oh for fucks sake" lmao
🤣🤣🤣
Petrichor is actually my favorite word thanks to doctor who.
Also velochor which is the smell of old books. The smell you get going into an old book shop.
A parent's love saves the day....💙💙😭
The two episodes of Doctor Who with Craig in, literally the only time James Corden has ever been funny in his career 😅
I literally don't know what James Corden is, only that people in every Doctor Who reactor's comments hate him =D
I really don't understand the - let's be nice - negative reactions most British people have towards James Corden. He's a great comic actor and I really enjoyed the moments I saw of his American talk show.
Back in August I went to see him (and Anna Maxwell-Martin, Suki from 'The Long Game') in a play at the Old Vic. Corden was terrific, comedic at the start, battle-scarred and unsettling at the end. He poured everything into that performance. Won't hear a word against him.
Well he has been really good in theatre, but yes James Corden is really funny here and has great chemistry with Matt.
Well, isn't this nice? A fun-filled, care-free romp with Craig and Stormageddon... that leads into the Doctor's melancholic death march. 😆 This is indeed a fun one, with a nice melancholic undertone. It's important to remember that nearly two centuries have passed for the Doctor, so we can only imagine what he's been up to in that time; when he learned about Lake Silencio and how long he's been on his farewell tour. That final farewell of his is so wonderful and sombre. He was the Doctor, and he was there to help.
Now, some tidbits:
Cybermats appeared in Classic Who, especially during the Second Doctor era. The Doctor's line, "You redecorated. I don't like it," is a quote from the Second Doctor from when he saw the Third Doctor's TARDIS in the multi-Doctor story, The Three Doctors.
The kindly shop assistant who thought the Doctor and Craig were a couple was played by Linda Baron, who'd previously appeared in a First Doctor story and a Fifth Doctor story.
Also, I don't think it's ever directly acknowledged, but I'm pretty sure that wither this episode or A Good Man Goes to War would mark the New Who debut of the classic Cybermen, rather than the parallel Earth versions.
Oh and as for Amy, I always thought she'd just become a successful model, but I suppose that marketing does have a lot of inside references for her not to have had some sort of creative input.
Overall, it was nice to see Craig and the Cybermen again and for the Doctor to get a final bit of fun before facing his destiny. That ending really gets you good, doesn't it? I can't wait to see what you think of the finale.
I love those tidbits...
Buuuuut a classic cyberman (head) appears in the episode "Dalek" in Van Staten's Museum...
So technically they were in season 1 😂😂😂
But yes, the cyber-history is complex, and doesn't get any more easy with time😅😅😅
Thanks again for your great comment, and thanks Jules for your great reactions....
Storytelling is so much better with each episode, and Matt's era was sooo timey-wimey with mind-bending and emotional plot. And it will keep getting better and heartbreaking as usual.
Petrichor is the best smell in the world, especially in the desert. I lived in Arizona for 9 years, and it was my favorite moment, after a storm, the smell rising from the earth.
4:24 'tis probably reasonable to assume that a baby does actually perceive the world like this since everybody in their life at this stage is going to be devoted to handling their every need. ^_~
I hope stormsgeddon is a future companion
WOW what an awesome thought!
Hello, Jules. 💜
That look of pleased expectation, for another Doctor Who episode, makes a great opening shot - 0:00 - as always, nice casual blending with your set’s background tones.
“Fantastic. They’re back again?” It was around this episode that a number of fans had the exact same response - some felt the Cybermen were appearing too often, of late.
The “only affects underdeveloped brains” joke, is one of my favorites from the newer Doctor Who episodes. 🤣
And the “pep” talk, the Doctor gives to little Stormageddon - 12:56 - is also very funny, true, but funny. 😅
Excellent recalls, and perception, throughout this one, Jules. The electricity sparks, looking like the crack, Amy - the face of a new perfume, Petrichor. The smell of dust after the rain, and then the impending doom of the blue envelops, with the hat, and others. Well done - remembered and noticed! 🥰
This thing, which Doctor Who does so well - a joyous, very funny story, even with the inherent danger, and then the slow building dread of something wicked this way comes, is absolutely, always, well done, as it is here. 😍
The end piece. The singing, Madame Kovarian, the fear and confusion for River Song, the Silence, as the ending ties to various previous points in time. Quite an exquisite build-up
I was happy to hear your thoughts, in the Outro, as to how the blame can certainly be shared, and doesn’t deserve to be fully placed on the Doctor’s shoulders.
Amy, a good bit like Rose before her, often does exactly what she wants, when she wants, and how she wants. Unfortunately she often takes on no real responsibility for the outcomes.
Have a great day, Jules. 💜🤗💜 Enjoy your time. Have another coffee, some treat or other. Relax and have a wonderful time. 😉😊
Ahh Tom 💜😊 what a delightfully fun episode! It was wonderful to see Craig again, and I don't care one little jot that he's not popular 🤣 I enjoy him and the Doctor together SO very much. They work just so well, and it makes me feel all sorts of lovely positive feelings!
The end piece was so well done, if a heartbreaking reminder of what is to come. I loved seeing the hat, the invitations... I'd almost forgotten about what awaits us at the lake but this reminded us very well. It feels like Buffy writing - let's have a fun romp, make the audience laugh and then BAM! Get them at the end 😭
You are so right about Amy! Whilst I wish I had some of her bravado, it does seem to land her in hot water at times. It seems she needs Rory as much as the Doctor needs his companions.
Thank you, as always, Dear Tom. A coffee calls soon, and tonight is my cleaning night where I catch up on everything. Afterwards, Sims and Relaxation 🥰 I wish you the same - maybe without the cleaning though 😄💜
This is probably the most haunting episode with the Cybermen due to them trying to convert a man while his friend is trying to help him resist and his son is crying for him. After watching it first time, I didn't go back to it for a long while
I see where you're coming from, but I feel like the fact that they ultimately failed took a lot of punch out of it by defanging the entire thing that makes them scary. Of course, the half minute or so before that happened was still pretty unsettlin
The Doctor: "Because Craig, I love you. It's you, it's always been you".
Rose from the next universe over: "OH COME ON!!!"
Nothing sounds more old-fashioned than partner howdy partner
Lake silencio....3x River Song's are at that location including 1 in Amy's womb
That surely has to break something!
That was the fake Amy by that point though.
@@alextrill1746 Not at the original picnic, she probably wasn't. I don't think they ever confirmed the actual switch point did they - just that it was before the orphanage? (I seem to remember the prevailing theory was once they were separated and on the run)
@@AmazingChi Doctor said she was most likely replaced before America.
I also like humour in Doctor Who. However, if you think you know what’s coming in the next episode, you’ve forgotten that Steven Moffat is in control. Surprises are what he does.
The different button wasn't the Doctor's fault it was Rory because he was to inattentive to tell Amy which button she should push. Amy was careless in thinking the choice of button didn't matter. Considering all the experiences she's had with the Doctor where things like that always matter.
2:28 the Cybermen give the Daleks are run for their money in the "never goes extinct" contest. Its best to assume there are always more coming.
I kinda forgot just how many 'filler' episodes there were before the finale...
They all told important substories... but were more or less standalone miniepisodes.
But I guess the longer the wait, the bigger the reward!!!
Btw can I say: I love you reactions. I truely mean it!!!
I am on the spectrum and have trouble empathizing with emotions a lot.
But you are not shy to show these emotions clearly, so I can actually feel what you are going through and it is a joy and a (good) pain!
I have tried watching other reactors to doctor who but none are this expressive and I find myself stopping before long because I simply can't connect!
Don't lose that! And once you watch something I have watched as well, I will be there following you along as well :)
Can't wait for your next episode(s?)
“Does he have a baby?
Oh, I’m so happy!”
a literal moment later…
“Are•You•Kidding•Me.
Fantastic.
They’re back again?
*I Hate Them!*”
Says it all, doesn’t it? 😂
Jules, meet Stormaggedon, Dark Lord of All. 👶⛈💀
😉😁
6:40 Possible in-joke here.
Years ago I heard the Vulcan Neck Pinch was actually stolen from Doctor Who. Apparently the script originally said "Spock sneaks around the corner and hits the man on the head very hard" and Leonard Nimoy said "isn't mr Spock supposed to be very intelligent? Can't I do something different to incapacitate him? I saw this show called Doctor Who the other night and he just grabbed the man something like this and he fell down..."
At least that's what I heard.
I've heard Nimoy tell the first part of hat story, but never heard him mention Doctor Who. Ian did use a similar move in The Aztecs though.
Cyberman + Rat = Cybermat.
Make sure you don't miss the minisode "Night of the Doctor" which goes before the 50th "Day of the Doctor". Dunno why I just thought of that but yeah...
Yeah, I've got that noted down! Thank you!
I wonder if that baby's watching Doctor Who now at about 14.
And god, it would've been awesome for Classic Whovians if that Cybership was the one from the 5th Doctors story that wiped out the dinosaurs.
That would be cool if they became a fan!
Jules, sorry if you've already been told this a million times before, but FYI there are two "Doctor Who" episodes you "missed" because they were part of the 'Sarah Jane Adventures'. One episode prominently featured David Tennant's 10th Doctor, while the other prominently featured Matt Smith's 11th Doctor (set after series 5).
I'm not recommending the entire Sarah Jane series (it is for kids), but the presence of the Doctors in those two episodes really makes them feel like legitimate episodes. Plus the second episode in particular really has a LOT to say about the Doctor's relationships with his old companions. There's one scene where the Doctor shares his feelings about past companions and I would honestly call it essential viewing.
I will also (again) highly recommend the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie. It will REALLY help you appreciate and understand the huge 8th Doctor reference coming in series 7. (I know you've replied to this request before but honestly I've never seen anything you've written about it sorry.)
Finally, here are the two Sarah Jane episode titles (may be a little spoilery if you were planning to watch the entire series)…
David Tennant's episode is "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" (series 3) and Matt Smith's episode is called "The Death of the Doctor" (series 4).
Best wishes,
Lee
Yeah, unfortunately I don't have the Sarah Jane adventures on my streaming services, so I'll have to buy the DVDs one day! I have indeed replied to a few comments about the Doctor Who movie, and it's something I'll most likely watch by myself when it gets to it 😊
@@julesreacts Thanks for the reply Jules! You must be SO busy replying to comments, I just want you to have all the information! If you don't get to see the 1996 movie soon then maybe just google his face (paul mcgann doctor who) - because they do show an image of his face in a late series 7 episode and if you recognise him it will make that little moment a hundred times more exciting (exciting because that's only the second and final time since 1996 that we get a quick glimpse at the 8th Doctor, a Doctor who was actually very popular but never got a series sadly).
If you want to see 1 clip from the 1996 movie there's a clip on YT titled 'The Eighth Doctor Recalls Gallifrey' which is 100% free from any spoilers of future Who (unlike half the Doctor Who clips on TH-cam which end by cutting to a clip of the latest doctor or companion telling you to subscribe, so that's something to avoid!)
Thank you!! I will definitely try to watch the movie this week. It's hard as I don't get a lot of spare time but I've been wanting to for ages and now I'm in series 7, I need to make it a priority!
You're right about the comments haha. It does take a long time and it probably hinders my editing progress, to be honest 😅 but I genuinely enjoy talking to people and there are some wonderful people here who comment. It really is lovely to see familiar faces over and over. I look forward to it 💜
@@julesreacts Bless you, I love Australians 🙂
Just to follow up - I made time to finally watch the movie last night! It was great and it's really cool that I now know another Doctor 😅
Rip nurse Gladys emmanuelle
This is such a fun episode and I'm sad that I haven't seen it in such a long time. I've enjoyed reexperiencing it with you.
Have your tissues. I've got mine. Can't wait for next week.
Mel, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed 🥰
11:48 had my wig flying to Uranus 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
The one thing I don't really like about the episode is how they defeat the Cybermen. I'm not a hater of "He won with the power of love" thing in stories in general, but it's kinda how they resolved the previous episode with Craig, so it feels a bit repetitive. But more importantly, it kinda defeats the theme of the Cybermen. The whole point of those enemies is that they are a cautionary tale, they are a representation of what happens when you let the fear of suffering and mortality make you try to become emotionless and immortal, basically. The point is that they will suppress your emotions, because they think that's what the evolution of humanity should be, they think that's what's good for you. And once it's done, there's no turning back. That's the whole threat that the Cybermen pose. If you can just cancel a conversion with The Power of Love™, then... what's even the point of those enemies, thematically? Are they even a threat anymore?
But other than that, I still like this episode. I just think it's a bit sad that we didn't get a good ol' two-parter finale.
The calm before the storm you will need a restock in tissues for what's coming up good luck and yes I am from the future and yes everything is gonna be ok .👍👍👍
For next season after the name of the doctor there's a minisode called night of the doctor, then the episode day of the doctor, the credits at the start have a bit of a spoiler so u can look away for abt 5 secs if u don't wanna get spoiled
Ooh very helpful, thank you!
I love seeing Craig again
Me too!!!!
So proud of Amy for profiting off her trauma! 😅
the name tag, because sometimes that does happen.
What D'you mean "again"? The Cybermen were barely in the last series final and basically had a cameo in the beginning of episode 1 of this series. We haven't had a proper Cyberman story since "The next Doctor".
Again means simply that; again. It's not the first time we've seen the Cybermen, therefore they are here "again".
@julesreacts You just seemed so fed up of seeing them, like they were overused.
There are a few other comments about seeing them again, just in this video alone! So I'm not the only one.
Hope you enjoyed the video, regardless.
@@julesreacts Course I did, as always.
Though I've gotta say, I completely forgot that you didn't start Angel season 4 this week. Lol.
This is Wednesday and another exciting episode of Doctor Who with James Corden as Craig and Alex Kingston as River Song this is going
to be a very special episode with Matt Smith have a nice week and
as always thank you Juliette.🐈⬛🧋🇦🇺
Thank you! This episode was such a treat, so funny! Have a great day, Roger 😊
The resolution of the Cybermen storyline is a bit pants, but everything else is so much fun that I don’t care.
Omg I haven't watched this episode in like a decade, I named my son Alfie 😂 must have been subconsciously influenced because i really like the craig episodes, bout the only time James Corden isnt insufferable too
Please tell me your son's middle name is Stormageddon 😅
@julesreacts his mother wouldn't have approved that 😂
What do people have against James Corden? I've always thought he's pretty good
I mentioned this on Jules' reaction to the first Craig ep, but I genuinely find James Corden so charming as Craig. I wonder if some of it is just his excellent chemistry with Matt Smith
Oh no.... sad Juliette breaks my heart!...
It's a good way to cleanse out the tear ducts 😭
I love Craig
Same!!
I love this one. I don't remember why. I think it kind of invalidates what we know about the Cybermen.
Love this guy the former roomate and his wife and baby.
increased sulfur emissions. Oh yup there is a baby on the premises.
Ooo farewell tour, that's grim.
What a Whovian you have become Jules! 👍
Very proud to be one 🥰🥰
Smithy the cyberman
“I know who I want to take me home: James Corden”-The Doctor
I know you plan on potentially watching "Torchwood", but after that, can you watch "Wanda Vision" then "Agatha All Along"? ❤
I'm thinking about watching movies, rather than tv series! But I'll keep that in mind :)
@julesreacts That I understand. If you want something shorter then the series you've been watching then these are perfect. They're only 1 season and 9 episodes each. They're also part of the Marvel universe, which has tons of movies ☺️
All good things will come to their end, but not before giving us a good show. it's great when characters make a reapperance, and new ones show up to give the Doctor something to play off. like Stormaggedon and not mommy.....er, Craig. as for things to come........Wellllllll! you'll see.
I adored seeing Craig again! I had so many good feelings from this episode. I hope you've been well, Charlie!!
💖
Sorry this is off-topic, but why was there no Buffy or Angel this past week?
If you look at her main page, and use the Community link, you will find her latest post gives a complete explanation of the Buffy Angel thing.
Thank you, Tom 😊 Buffy 7x1 will be released this weekend!
Again, almost two seasons since the cybermen!
Wait... has it been two seasons since? WOW!
@julesreacts not since The Next Doctor with David Tennant. Amy was attacked by one in The Pandorica Opens, but besides that, she and Rory don't even know what cybermen are!
@BooneBluemel uhh, what about a Good Man Goes to War? Rory destroys the twelfth Cyber-Legion's fleet.
@Thundertron5 as the main villain
Hi have a nice evening
Hello 😊
Spoiler free: the truth is that the Doctor isn't the one who causes the danger. Watch every episode where a companion was in danger or a planet was in danger or someone was in danger and take note of the choices they made that led them to be there. Craig made the choice to put his life in danger to help the doctor when he really didn't have to. Amy made the choice of buttons before asking and Rory made the choice to go on ahead. I would never leave a partner alone in a strange situation, even for something as simple as they've forgotten something and need to go back for it. I think the Doctor is feeling the words of the lady at the end, about how River was taken and moulded because the Doctor exists and strength invites challenge. It wasn't the Doctor's fault, it was the fault of the lady to act on her fear. This whole show is about the human condition and one of the elements of the human condition is how we respond to fear, usually by trying to kill whatever scared us. Be it spiders, other humans or aliens. We make the choices that either save us or doom us and the Doctor is more often the cure to the stupidity of the reaction of the human condition but more often he isn't successful because he's not a god and weak and tiny as humans might be, they have a power to create terrible tragedy, even when a better example or option is offered. Remember what the Doctor said to Harriet Jones when those aliens came down during the Christmas invasion and used blood magic to try to blackmail humanity and Harriet had the ship destroyed after the Doctor let them go? He said "I should have told them to run, as fast as they can. Run and hide, because the monsters are coming- the human race." That's the human condition, we see it through history and through the history of media and how monstrous fear can make someone. That's why the Doctor doesn't really put anyone in danger. Humans are more than capable of that on their own.
🙂👍
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
👋👋👏👏🙌🙌🌟🌟🌠🌠🌠🌠
Craig is back, baby! And that might be a pun! LOL I think Craig is the highlight character for me this entire season, he bounces off the Doctor so well, like Abbot and Costello.
They are BRILLIANT together!! I love this episode SO much!
It's unfortunate that you don't like recurring villains. Some of the classics are just too iconic to discard.
Oh, don't get me wrong! I don't mind them! I also really enjoy seeing new villains and enemies 😊
❤
