+Jess Liu Everything about each player is fantastic. They all have excellent sounds quality and their fingers as well as their tounging are amazingly clean and precise. The alto player was circular breathing most of the time without any change in tambre. Just fantastic!
This Fugue by saxophones alone in harmony is classical music with a future. Saxes make the ages old material- new and exciting. People will be drawn to listen to classical music again because of these charismatic saxophones.
Ages old? this is late Baroque, early 18th century; that is not old- only some 50 years before the Dec of Indep. But it isn't classical music: not quite as recent as that. And it won't bring anyone round: it sounds really really bad. Listen to some dedicated groups playing eg Brandengurg 4. Recorders or violins sound crap and cringe in Jazz (anyone is allowed to say that, surely) WELL: if you're REALLY honest, saxes sound embarrassing here in a Bach piece. AND THAT IS OKAY. Because it's true. Saxes sound lovely playing their stuff: velvety and muscly; here they sound like cartoon ducks.
Daddy Hirohito It’s not that impressive, people just abuse it in front of audiences that find it fascinating, leading on for it to become the “renowned” technique that it is. It’s not impressive.
It wasn't necessarily a save, a lot of composers wait a beat or a few to add the top of chords, it may have been a save, or it may have been on purpose..
Several pianists end Bach fugues/preludes/etc. with an arpeggiated chord -- though Bach did not notate it like that -- and I think that's what they were going for. And I'm pretty he didn't squeak either.
It had to be a save. Even if there was supposed to be a pause, which I don't think there was because you can see that he reached for his soprano to come in before his neckstrap snapped off. When it did, you can tell by his face and the other players' faces of trying to hold back laughter that it clearly wasn't planned
And I know I’m extremely late but you can also see him mouth “fuck me” right before it blacks out at the end so it’s safe to assume it was an accident heh
I love Bach on sax! Played well in groups they can almost sound like a harpsichord. In the same way as really good flute choirs can almost sound organ-like.
I promise I haven't been drinking but you have Pete Rose on the Alto, Patrick Swayze on Bari, and Richard Hatch (Apollo from Battlestar Galactica) on Tenor. I still can't place the Soprano player.
This is so good! The last note where the soprano came in a little later was perfectly balanced! Also a great way to introduce these four saxophones to my students !
I'm playing this song with 3 of my friends, I play alto. and my friends are all tenors but one is playing the Bari and the other is playing soprano, while the third is playing their tenor. xD it's so much fun to play
You can play it in a brass quartet too. But make sure the trumpet and trombone have been muted or they play pp all the time otherwise Mr. Horn will have trouble emerging from the huge sonic barrier
Really outstanding performance from every player. I am curious as to why the tenor player was using a metal ligature when everyone else had what looked to be Rovner ligatures. I have generally found that metal ligatures give the saxophone a wider dynamic range, and sometimes a brighter sound. Ligature choice should be up to each individual or group, but I think in this case it made the tenor a bit too strident relative to the others. I think that a different ligature would have given a better blend and balance. Fantastic playing, just my observations!
that 8th note pass-off between the tenor and bari should have been more legato in my opinion, but i thought it was great other than that! I love this piece for quartet.
That soprano sax player was amazing oh my god
Jess Liu But we mustn't forget the bari after the 2-min mark...
+Jess Liu he is really talented, very minor mistake at 2:07, you can see him cursing at 2:42
+Pablo Weilg He also curses at 2:10

+Mark Kim easily possible
Anybody notice how this video looks more like a movie than a standard TH-cam video?
I think it's the warm colors
+Rosa Henriquez it's a performance
Rosa Henriquez the black bars maybe
Black bars
It's in 21:9 which is standard cinematic aspect ratio
Dear friends and colleagues! Thank you for your attention to our work. Thank you for your valuable and helpful comments!
that soprano put in work right from the start

I love how the soprano's neck strap falls out at the end and he's just like "What?"
hahahaha IK
I didn't notice that till u said it
I think he forgot the last note too, so like a double oops
William Pierce good eye 👍😂
William Pierce my soprano so old it ain't got nowhere to hook a neckstrap
Soprano sax + Alto sax + Tenor sax + Baritone sax = AWESOMENESS!!!!
Or Sax Quartet
Now now, where that Bass sax XD
THE CIRCULAR BREATHING!
Bob Ross Your art videos inspire us
Ikr? So satisfying!!!!😊

Pageboy25 if u can’t do it perfectly I don’t wanna ever hear you say that. That skill is extremely impressive
they aren’t using circular breathing. at 1:20 the soprano takes a breath
Does anybody else’s video freeze or glitch at 1:04? Or is that just me
Skylar Khamphou it was a glitch
Mine had a slight glitch too.
Mine did too
#MeToo
same
Whoever had the soprano saxophone, nice save no the last chord 😂
Nope I don't think it's a save. He squeaked but there is supposed to be a small pause for soprano near the end.

A nice clean reading. Good pitch. Good dynamics. A very enjoyable listen
Amazing. This group has really helped me learn this piece for my sax quartet. Much applause
Great!! What a frightening moment for the soprano at the end ahahahhaha
I love how saxophones can play baroque music like this better than any string quartet yet they are also the kings of jazz best instrument by a mile xD
totally agree
Better than any string quartet...? Eh, don't agree with that one lol
Except their sound doesn't blend well with an orchestra
Cole Christie Their orchestral variants can blend much easier with more effectiveness.
Better than any string quartet? False lol
Adolphe Sax would have been pleased.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
bach is an alien
ok zoomers
Great outline on how Bach's (or broadly, most baroque contrapoint music) is done - 4 voices doing stuff together. simply beautiful rendition!
An overwhelming cascade of perfect counterpoint, precision, sonorous harmony and melody, short and joyful to listen to.
Mi avete lasciato a bocca aperta con la vostra Bravura
La musica ne sono certo, potrà salvare il mondo.
If the sax was around in Bach's time he would, without a doubt, embraced it. And he would of been proud of this.
音色がとても綺麗で
聞き惚れてしまいました!
saxの音色の良さを改めて
実感しました( *´꒳`* )
beautifully played! great ensemble intonation, tone, articulation, time and phrasing! Great Playing all, I especially enjoyed the soprano playing.
One of my favorite pieces of all time, I love playing it!
It's like it was written for a sax quartet. Love it!

More Bach please! Bach on any instrument is wonderful.
I'm playing this song with 3 of my friends, I play alto. and my friends are all tenors but one is playing the Bari and the other is playing soprano, while the third is playing their tenor. xD it's so much fun to play
awe dude that sucks!
This is superb! Bach can be adapted to so many instruments!
Sax quartet is a GREAT way to hear Bach fugues....one can distinguish each melodic line .....very nice to hear (and see)
Final chord? Eargasm.
Yeah man picardy third major after a mostly minor peice sounds like that it was one of bachs techniques
Paul Jonathan That was standard practice till around Mozart's time
Classical music sounds so good on saxophone. Underrated!
かつて、こんなに美しい『あなた〜の髪の毛ありますか〜〜』を演奏した人いましたか???
クラシックなので美しいものばかりですよ。フーガト短調パイプオルガンも素敵なので是非に。
@@なびな-c9w bro same lmao
it's so smooth and at the same time classic good for the ears
Bloomin' marvellous! Thank you. I saw JS Bach dancing to it in my mind's eye.
Z przyjemnością wracam do tego wykonania.
Dziękuję i pozdrawiam.
Vodka
No one on earth makes music like Bach. Delightful.
This is freakin amazing! haha that last chord.
wow!!! you guys are ALL fantastic!!!! i had to watch it several time to watch each of you individually.....just great!
The neck strap break is the most wholesome part ❤
Well done! The voices are so clear in this format. The rapid fingering was impressive, too.
I could swear by the end I was hearing a string section! What a great sound and terrific playing
por quê alto saxofonistas sempre dançam? kkkk me incluindo nisso KKKKK
incrível
très bel arrangement pour quatuor de saxophone belle balance entre les différents de sax c'est plein d'allant bravo
I'm most amazed by the tenor sax. Lots of notes for a deep sax.
sweet baby Bach that was saxgasmic.
Dang it I wish I played saxophone instead of brass instruments because this song is amazing
Juliana Moore why not learn? Alto is super easy once you learn the basics of playing reed instruments
Brass quintets play it
You can play it in a brass quartet too. But make sure the trumpet and trombone have been muted or they play pp all the time otherwise Mr. Horn will have trouble emerging from the huge sonic barrier
Can be transposed
Finally, quality content in my recommended
You guys so awesome! I'm just amazed how wonderfully those metal and reeds deliver master's organ soulful work!
Soprano is awesome and tenor has really great sound. Overall a very awesome saxophone quartet.
いったいどれほどの人がこの人達の演奏の素晴らしさを理解できるだろうか。まるでサックスがバロックの時代から存在していたかのような、サックスの澄んだクラシックの奏法とはまた違う、まさにバロックで聞き惚れてしまいました。
What's taken for granted here, is that they've memorized this entire piece O.o. Bravo guys. Bravo.
Motivation to practice
Bach sounds way better in sax quartet than on piano (I'm a pianist). The control you have over the individual lines (crucial for Bach) is amazing.
Excellent! It was wrote for organ! Such a beauty!
Excellent performance. This is a REAL sound of Saxophone.
A capable performance. The tempo is quite a bit too fast in my opinion. This track is helping me to learn how to write for saxophone. Thank you.
Wow without note how can they remember thats amazing :o :)
If you practice something so much it becomes muscle memory.
Yeah true
They are its not in camera tho its below them
LMAO
Bach would have been so pleased with this!! A new instrument for him to explore new possibilities.
Just the way Bach intended!
You are great!!!!!!! ... You guys have a beautiful sound together!!!
o cara do sax soprano é perfeito, toca muito.
wonderful!! I wish I could play to that standard!!
Love the four sax voices for Bach's fugues!
Bonjour . En les écoutant on peut sans trahir le compositeur apprécier le grand Monsieur J.S.BACH . Merci
Such a great performance, now i understand a little bit this piece!
Still here in 2023
Bravo
Sin palabras....HERMOSO!!!! Saxo+barroco = Lo máximo....
Jou, voll schön gespielt! 😊👍 VG
Absolutely incredible.
これってハゲの歌の原曲ですか?
まるねこ そうです
Wonderful. What a seamless play
Amazing! Such a great song, with great musician! Bravo!
Amazing performance!
Love it. More baroque please.

Браво парни!!! Так держать
I think it's quite interesting, how when this piece was written, saxophones didn't exist.
that 8th note pass-off between the tenor and bari should have been more legato in my opinion, but i thought it was great other than that! I love this piece for quartet.
Fenomenalnie to brzmi! Szacunek artystyczny!
one of the best interpretations of this Fugue
This memorized, dang.
Nice tone and balance!
Nice! I miss playing this with a Sax Q I used to play tenor with.
Such a good piece I love this
Fntastic, thank you jsb would have loved it
very professional sound. excellent precision and timing.. as good as players twice their age
I love this.
Me too.
I live for the bari sax baby!!!
What make is soprano sax and mouthpiece. Wonderful tone.
Great stuff amazing.
the tuning is awesome, really great job guys.
I got my soprano right beside me now. I've never been prouder to be a sax player lol
By far the best instruments to hear!
Excelente! Parabéns ao grupo 👏👏👏
These men have changed my mind. Turns out the sax isn't just for jazz and ska. 😁
Marvelous! Congratulations!
めちゃくちゃ上手いのに…
ハゲしか出てこねえ…
Amazing!
