A little off-topic, but if you also needed help with understanding any nail gel (as that's my specialty), I created this free-guide to help you with that paolaponcenails.com/gels101/
This was by far the best nail filing tutorial I have ever seen! I once watched a video on TH-cam and it was this detailed, talking about what to look for in the corners of your eyebrows (to shape) and I nailed it. Looking forward to nailing my nails next 😉😂 thank you Paola!!
@@Wordsoffuel it was an Indian-looking woman giving a tutorial to shape eyebrows using white eyeliner and a hard card (business card or credit card, etc). It was gold!! Can’t remember who did it though
Thanks! I recently broke the habit of biting my nails, and I’ve been struggling with how to take good care of them. Glad to have found a tutorial for short nails, because I love to garden and short nails are perfect for that.
Ah. This is the secret I was looking for. I need to file the sides of the tips of my nails because they're so much wider visually than the part by the cuticle.
I watched this (of course) after painting my nails and noticing how poorly shaped they are. Next week they will be better after watching the single most informative nail shaping video. Thanks! Update: they look much much better this week! Thank you!
My hyponichuim is so high. Although, I like tapered square, ballerina, etc. my best shape is almond which is also beautiful😊. Shaping almond is difficult on super short nails for me so I start off square then shape them after some they grow out.
This is such a fabby video, thank you! I have nails the fan out ( I call them spade nails 🤭) The longer they are, the worse they look. I would like to refrain from filing the side wall, but dont want them to fan, so im thinking keeping them shorter and rounding the corners a bit more. I guess if I go fairly short then it will give the illusion of more slender nails, but hopefully keep the gentle C curve i have too (which i like!) . I bet youre thinking fanned out with a C curve, is that even possible for nail growth, yep, that's my natural nail before filing!! 🤦♀️ since using a crystal file from Mont-Bleu for a good 8 years and only filing and only in one direction, my nails have faired better for sure! I love how informative your video is, thank you so much. Have a blessed day 🕊
My boyfriend is huge on his nails, and loves taking care of them, and he’s gotta be the worst nail artist I’ve ever seen, so he always has me do it for him or goes to a salon. But neither me or him have ever been too skilled filing our nails and always left splinters or damaged the layers. And I know everyone is saying the same thing but I shit you not, this is the first video I’ve found where normal length nails are shown, and this immediately helped both me and my yassified boyfriebd lmao.
Hi, Paola! Thank you so much for this tutorial. I absolutely love doing my nails at home, but have never known how to file and shape my nails properly. My nails look like I came from the salon. Wish I could shoot you a picture of the final look. Thanks again! xxM
This was very helpful! I made a decision to stop having nails applied after 30+ years of acrylic, solar, Shellac, gel, then dip for the last couple. I loved the convenience of not having to fuss with them between appointments and enjoyed that my nails always looked well groomed. With the dip I could go 3-4 weeks between appointments. It is a painful process, at first literally. At close to 4 months a lot of the damage is almost to the end. They are still fragile. I will use this method going forward. I like a soft, natural shape and like the look of a wider nail bed. Have never like the strong square or pointed look. A problem that I am finding after so many years is that I am awful at applying colored nail polish. I used to do a good job before I started getting nails applied. I would appreciate tips for putting on nail polish.
Thanks for doing such a fabulous video. I have never been good at nails and I like to keep them natural, occasionally I will use nail polish. Applying olive oil on them strengthens them, as it calcifies the nails but my nails are naturally dry. You have lovely nails 😊
She used orange woodstick to pushing back the cuticles. It's related in my lesson at T.L.E so that I can clean my nails on my own using the materials that I have.
What's the thing you used after the filing was done but before the thing that gets the bits it from under? I realized now I'm the reason for so much splitting. Thank you!
I wish my naiks were like yours like how they are longer on the finger itself. My problem is I have always had tiny nails, small hands and small fingers. I have been trying to get better about filing them and using a very tiny amount of oil on my nails and fingers after washing them.
I never cared about my nails while growing up and hated polish and all that stuff after seeing classmates with chipped colors and polish over the sides of their fingers and the cuticles. In college i had a piano gig requiring me to play three times a week in addition to practice. My nails got messed up. Only recently noticed how short some of my nail beds are. Thanks for the tips on how to keep it simple!
Paola, I have a question for you. Do you know why nail salons cut the sides of your nails? I feel like this makes them break easily because your sort of detaching the nail from the finger, and in turn the sides of your nails can snag on things and break. You did mention the annoying side tear. This is what I’m referring to.
I have lots of issues w/ my nails. 1st off I am not good at fileing my nails but that could be since I rarely file them, 2nd I have always been a nail bitter especially when they get a little longer past the top of my fingers, I have short fingers so my nails are tiny, 3rd I used to chew my nails everyday, end up with sores on the sides of my fingers and very tiny nails sometimes they would bleed. Now the last about 10 yrs or so I haven't bit them as much since I see these instructional videos on what to do and how to keep your nails up. My problem is the dirt gets under my nails far enough to where a tool won't even get the dirt out of underneath the nails so I end up chewing the nails off. Lately I have seen instructional videos on how to take care of your nails like this video. I started using cuticle remover, a tool to remove the cuticle. Honestly I was quite surprised at what I removed since I never used the stuff before, thought it would only work on woman who have nail beds like yours as fas as the length. Now my big issue is wishing I could get my nail bed further back like your nails are or a little further back. I sit back and think Well I have cleaned up the cuticle are but how can I get my nails to go further up the fingers??? Dumbie me also tried fileing my nails on the top so I technically scratched my nails, they aren't soft but more rough feeling. I just wish my nails were quite similar to yours though...
Dumb question: Gow long did it take for your nails from the cuticle area to the top of the nail, how long did it take for the nails to grow out? Also with how back the nail is on the skin was that all from pushing and removing the cuticle from the cuticle area? I would love to get my nails looking like this but dont know what route would be my best.
Thank you so much for explaining everything so well! Shaping my nails is my least favorite thing so this will help because now I understand how to do it better.
Try using blue cross cuticle remover. It is amazing and removes all the dead skin and helps with cuticle care. And always apply a cuticle oil twice a day to help. I'm talking from experience lol I have crazy cuticles lol
Try not to cut cuticles, it’s really important in order to have healthy and pretty looking skin. I only push my cuticles back, sometimes with the edge of my ring. Be gentle and patient. You’re going to see the difference soon.
I really want to know if the pink part of your finger nails grow? Cause mine are so small and oval and some are wide if that makes sense Please I need to know 🙏🙏cause I see all these girls having long nails ( the pink part ) but almost all of them are old I mean 20 or so (I'm 16) so thought maybe my nails will grow up
I really appreciate this tutorial for us who prefer short nails! My main issue though is that my middle finger nails look so square naturally compared to the rest. I don't know how you manage your middle finger nails to have the same type of shape as the rest of the nails?
This video helped me so much thank you!!!! But i do have a question, do you know how to get rid of the bumps that go down at the top nail part(the white bit) also my nails have lots of white bits in them and its so hard to get out and it makes my nails look very unpleasing
When I do it should i file from the top of nail or should i file from the back leaning on my skin? Idk if that makes sense but when I file against my skin so the file is leaning backwards I get tiny layers on the nail
Hello my nails don’t have shape at all, some are square others oval, I love the oval shape, how can I make my others nails to take a oval form because right now they are too square is hard, thank you for your help
Question for my situation. My nails are very hard . If I accidentally hit someone, it cuts through other people's skin. How can I fix it? How do I file so that they are not very sharp.
Can you please do a similar video on how to shape and file a stiletto, almost and or coffin nail enhancement?! I also love the tip about using the shape of your cuticles as a reference! So helpful

I dont know if your nail bed is gonna grow bigger but i am 22 and my pink part of my nails is still small, smaller than for example in this video. But thats perfectly fine because they still look beautiful and clean if i take care of them, so don’t worry about that, theres no need to honey 💞💓!

Finally we have a channel that doesn’t have ridiculously long nails and can show you how to do it on an everyday nail style
... but I must confess... once in a while I crave a ridiculously long and blingy set 😆

Yes. We should all be taught this in grade school.

Finally!!!! A proper video that shows exactly how to file natural nails. THANK YOU ❤❤🎉
Finally classy, short, natural nails! I can't stand the long pointy acrylic nails that seem to be everywhere these days.
I agree
Your advice on the middle finger and its illusion is great.

yay, glad to have helped solve the mystery!

How do you work on your cuticles properly?
Thank you
This was so helpful I always mess up and end up trying to fix it but in the end they are filed too much
So is the rule always one direction or can you go back and forth?
You can shorten by going back and forth, but you should seal the nail in one direction to keep nails from splitting.
