This is much better than back in the day, I'm sure there's a lot out there that remember training was one or two old ww2 US, Canadian and British training film reels (censored) to avoid teaching us anything too dangerous 😂 and a few moves a security guard would be trained in some other countries of course. I came across the old films on TH-cam and they weren't edited. I don't think the IDF wanted killers and I'd say that demo for the public was performed by a PR team, I doubt if the Irish government are much different from back then. A lot of the gear back then was old world, the Defence Forces have always been misused and abused and the government has always been stingey when it comes to updating or upgrading all branches of the defence forces 🇮🇪😮
If I'm right, I can swear they used a mix of Krav Maga, Judo and Jujutsu aside from some basic CQC in this. Would I be right? Either way, this is awesome!

Im unsure but I know that a few members of the Irish Naval Service group do MMA and also recieved medals. But I don't think the DF do MMA or anything its just general hand to hand :)
no, reason is MMa and Muay Thai fighters are trained to fight for a lenghty period and for competitive scenarios, wheras soldiers are trained in techniques to end a fight in seconds and things that would be considered partially illegal to the public
As a second degree black belt in Ju Jitsu, most of the throws and techniques I see on this video come from Ju Jitsu and variations of the same techniques
