I have heard stories about how herding dogs have herded humans without them realizing it (at first). Time for bed => dog starts subtly acting in a way to get the human to do their bedtime ritual.

I'm 35 and have had dogs since I was 3-4yrs old, our pitbull was the best faminal we've ever had. Our entire family, mine and my wife's loved him so much, and everyone attended his euthanasia, parents all, siblings, niece, aunts, etc. He was our boy, human like, cuddle bug with humans, grew up with cats and dogs of all sizes. He raised his little brother tuxedo cat and sunbathed with him every day. Walked by my side, but when I wasn't there or the wife handled him he was her protector, she felt comfortable walking anywhere and everywhere with him throughout our apartments we lived at. All though his small bread brothers and sisters bullied him (he was 65lbs and they were no more than 16 lbs), he was their protector. ❤

I’ve had 5 pits over the years and I’m not sure another breed could have taken the “abuse” out triplets put on ours. Their high pain tolerance is a huge benefit for people with kids as they don’t get hurt when a kid tugs on their ear or steps on their paws. Not that we allowed actual abuse, but kids are kids.

You can also learn how to cut fur. Like... My aunt worked at a beaty salon and she was very used at cutting hair with scissors or the machine. One day she noticed we were spending too much with our Doodle mix (even tho she was a small breed, the pet shop we used to go had a nasty price) and tried to cut her fur one day. It ended up so well our doodle never went to a groomer ever again. We bathed her and our other dogs inside our house and it was easier to take care of her fur by ourselves than going to a groomer.

As a groomer, some doodles are not fully hypoallergenic. Poodles are, however they are mixed with a breed that sheds and can as a result be non hypoallergenic. Also doodles are so popular right now, there is tons of inbreeding going on which is causing all sorts of health and behavioral problems. They are great family dogs and if you are interested in getting one, please please do your research for a reputable breeder and ask your local groomer about the correct grooming regimen you're going to need both at home and in the salon. Grooming salons are overrun right now with matted doodles that are not being brushed properly at home. They are high maintenance if you want a long, fluffy coat. i was going to say the same thing. i've become a groomer amidst the doodle craze and the f1 pups are usually okay but inbreeding and whatnot is a big problem i see. a lot of people constantly come in saying they have original goldendoodles, labradoodles, or f1s and even as a new groomer and someone who owns cats i can tell at a glance that they were scammed. most of them are too proud to be told they were lied to so i've learned to keep it to myself (older groomers usually dont and occasionally i do love to see a pet parent argue about their inbred dog). most doodles i meet are super sweet but have no sense of space. out of the dozens i've met i've probably only been impressed by a handful

Topics like this need more pet groomers telling people how much care/maintenance a little/non shedding dog needs.
AKA if you're too lazy to brush the dog daily you'll need to do more visits to the groomers to keep it shortish because matting is very painful and the dog may even need to be sedated to get the matting off.

You mean the two dogs raised from puppies that mauled and killed two little girls in their own home? The dog that if you actually researched it’s history was 100% bred for fighting and baiting? (drop the nanny dog bullshit, it was never a thing) The dog that has been selectively bred to have higher aggression? The dog that’s killed more humans than the next 10 on the chart combined from 2005 to 2017? The only dog that won’t stop attacking no matter what you hit it with or do to it? Yeah great recommendation. A chihuahua can surely bite but a little scratch on the hand is different than the little boy who was recently scalped. Can there be pit bulls that last their whole lives without an incident, sure. But from what research tells us and from peoples testimonies these dogs 100% have something that others don’t that results in them snapping and murdering their owners, other people, little children, and thousands of animals every year. It is strongly recommended that epileptics don’t get Pits due to their tendency to attack people during seizures. This is a poor and dangerous recommendation. Check your local shelters 90% pits and most can’t be around kids.

I definitely would not recommend Australian Cattle Dog Aka a heeler unless you are experienced because they have incredible amounts of energy and are notorious for biting because of their working drive. There are an insane amount of heeler and heeler mixes in shelters because people buy them expecting a great apartment dog or low energy family dog and they end up not being. They are bred to run around a farm or ranch all day which means they never stop going and can't just be locked into a kennel. They are also very protective of their person and can be aggressive to people they think are a threat. Also herding can not be trained out of them you can find individual dogs with less of a herding instinct but the only way you'll be able to keep their herding in check is giving them a job. THEY ARE A WORKING BREED.

The only reason that they’re talked about Pitbulls worse than other breeds is when they go bad they are strong dogs, so they do quite a bit of damage. There are so many small breeds and so many other breeds that bite more kids and adults, but because they are smaller or less intense of a bite, people tend to brush it off.

Very key to get a pit young and train it properly. With love and respect at the forefront. Being heavy handed or failing to show pits the respect their capabilities deserve can end tragically.
I’ve found positive reinforcement works best for them, focusing more on what they do right and not being too hard when they make mistakes has given me positive results. Following those guidelines, I was able to mold my pit into exactly how I wanted him to be. MY DOG. Not their neighborhoods dog, not friends and family’s buddy, MY DOG who will put his life on the line to protect us. When I got him at 8 weeks, he had already been abused and was scared around the snout from being zip tied shut. I saved him, and he’s repaid the favor more than once. @Aceofwolves ปีที่แล้ว

Yep also accepting that some INDIVIDUAL dogs (again not breed) will just not like other people or animals. My dog hates cats. No matter how much socialization she will never like them. Making her go near them is only dangerous for us so if I see a cat I avoid it.
Same for small dogs and people. Small dogs In general tend to be a 1 person dog.
Forcing a dog into a situation they are not able to tolorate is a horrible idea. Dogs are individuals just like people. Some people are social, some are not. Some people tolorate being in a crowd. Some do not.
You need to not only know what your dog tolerates but RESPECT that and control your dog accordingly.
The idea that all dogs of one breed are overly nice or overly mean is simply an excuse to avoid putting in the WORK to train your dog PROPERLY.

When we rescued our pitbull she was already 3 years old, she's about 7 now. Chubby girl and sweet as can be, the rescue found her in a crate in a dog dump site they frequent. She'd been used for pups at least a few times. Dumb as rocks but the greatest snuggliest family pet we've ever had.

Just as a reminder, these are mid sized dogs he recommends for, Experienced dog trainers.
Pits get a bad wrap because they were created in the UK for their breeds natural success in blood sports and even a well intentioned owner can make fatal mistakes. (Like that women who got her face eaten, who did all those interviews)
The stats don’t lie, only get a pit if you’re ready to be an informed responsible owner and trainer who takes a critical look at their dogs needs and behavior.
I can’t count the number of times bad owners say their dog is friendly, next thing you know a 90lbs woman is trying to pry your beagle out of the mouth of a 120lbs dog named “sprinkles”. Who apparently until this day never showed any sign of aggression. Or whatever the owner says.

The importance of training cannot be overstated with pits. A lot of their nasty reputation comes from regularly being bought by people who deliberately train them to be aggressive or even vicious, but they are still fighting dogs, and very large, powerful ones at that. Train them right, they're sweethearts, train them wrong and they're a serious issue.

I had an American Pitbull for 15 years and 2 months! He was the best dog I’ve ever had! They are super energetic, when my neighbors chickens would come over he’d end them sadly, raccoons, possums and birds were toys to him! But being only 46 lbs in his prime he kept me fit! Super eager to please! Amazing ona en off leash, best hiking buddy ever, after the gym he was always down for a 3-4 mile walk/jog, on a bicycle he’d keep up, he loved all other dogs and humans he meet (unless dogs were dominant) but he grew up with a chihuahua mix I had to put down when he was 7 so he tolerated and would let little dogs jump all over him! Amazing dogs! Just never put them in a situation to fail! I miss my Gordo so much.

He just wants everyone to be together. He still herds the dogs at the dog park and it is impressive to watch: all the dogs in a group, going the same direction, Dingus in the back, cheering them on and keeping them in formation.

They are the dogs who are most in the ER for genetic related illnesses as they have been irresponsibly bred since their inception. Many unfortunately suffer from neurological issues and I have seen several euthanized as a result of this causing an unpredictable disposition.

One thing that seems to always be left out. Rescue dogs. We adopted one in 2007. He grew to be about 100lbs. He appeared to be a mix of Shepard, St.Bernard and others. He passed away in 2021. He was wonderful with children and almost everyone else. He had no fear and was a great guardian. When he was charged aggressively by large dogs he stood his ground and gave them a look. Without him even growling they put on the brakes and slunk away. He also sensed if someone was suspicious. He gave them his look and they would quickly leave. He was the best. So I wouldn't overlook a dog because it's not a purebred. You have probably seen more then your share of problem papered dogs. We socialized him as a puppy in a puppy obedience class at the adoption place.
