  • In this video (Let's fix a Drifting X-Box 360 pad... A Quick Guide), we shall be looking at soldering a replacement Analog Joystick and testing the results!
    So it was a rainy day and while clearing out the shed I came across my old broken 360 controller, so I ordered a replacement stick and it came today so I decided to do some sunbathing and repair the pad.
    The pad its self has been broken since the X-Box 360 was released on December 2, 2005, when we were playing Fight Night and back then I had no soldering skill or even a Solder Iron, But now it's a good time to fix the problem and revive a lost device.
    Shit Dam 2005... That's like... when I and my friends played the 360... a DECADE ago... That seems so wrong!! LOL
    Hope you enjoy the video

    What fixed it for me was remelting all the solder connections of the stick, there was apparently one bad connection.

    This might not work but what I tried was spamming the click button on the stick and it should work

    I have the same problem with both controllers and I need to buy a new soldering iron cuz the one I had it look like something has bitten on the tip. Maybe I should get soldering Iron station.

    What to do if after re-soldering a replacement analog (3rd party part)
    it drifts a bit to the left and downwards? Physically it looks straight
    in the center. Is there a way to log in to the controller to adjust it's
    analog possitions?

      Sounds like the replacement switch is defective. Sadly a lot of the aftermarket switches are not good and either don't last long, or are defective from the start. You'll unfortunately have to repeat this repair again with another (higher quality hopefully) switch.

    If I accidentally lifted off a ring during desoldering, can it still be saved? I'm annoyed I ruined it in the very last min :-(

      @@xm214-aminigun9 I managed to fix it. By scraping off a bit of the trace, I tested to see if there's any contact with a multimeter, I took a very small piece of copper wire (from a cat 6 cable), tin it with solder both ends, drop one end on the trace with a drop of solder another on the pin. Remarkably saved it

      depends... the corner pads are just earth, so as long as the pins at the sides make contact it should be ok?

    I'm actually surprised this has happened. I've used Xbox 360 controllers, PS3 controllers and never had issues. There was one controller that turned ever so slightly on FPS games but no gamebreaker.
    But Dualshock 4s? They are notorious for getting stick drift within a year.

    the flux seems to be applied too much.

    • @AgentJeffy
      @AgentJeffy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good rule of thumb for flux is you can never have too much. Just makes cleanup more of a pain, but it's better to be overly clean by using a lot of flux, then have dirty connections.

      I never had that problem, could be the new stick is faulty in some way, I don't know if there is a way to configure the pad on a 360, but it should be ok for a pc if it's wired or you have a pc receiver thingy, as you can set the dead zones.

    • @AgentJeffy
      @AgentJeffy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Retrogranddad Yea, it's a faulty switch. A lot of the aftermarket (Chinese) switches are defective from the start, or have longevity issues.
