The problem is that the films’ overarching plot has become muddled. It should have either been strictly about Newt’s adventures or a prequel series about Grindelwald, not both.
It's because they want to have their cake and eat it by keeping Oscar-winning Eddie Redmayne in the lead role, despite the fact he's playing a zoologist with no personal connection to Grindelwald or Dumbledore, other than being his former student.
They should've done Fantastic Beasts as a TV series. Could've had a new beast every episode, & the focus could've been cleanly on Newt rather than shoehorning him in as the main character in a story that's not at all about him.
Well I mean 9mm handguns have a smaller effective range than you’d think. Handguns are close quarters weapons, lots of factors affect a bullet’s trajectory, so even if you have perfect, deadeye aim you can miss if it’s windy or something and you didn’t take that into account

The writers could care less about what happened, and so they just jammed too many unneccessary "twists" into a movie that had no plot. They ignored blatant characteristics of certain characteristics (Queenie), gave Newt an unnecessary assistant that was never mentioned before for no reason, shoved an entirely unnecessary misunderstanding between Newt and Tina before they even developed their relationship to be anything more than "hey I'll hit you up if I'm ever back in New York," and rendered the ending of the first movie completely obsolete (Jacob never lost his memories even though he was shown to have done so at the end of the first movie, Credence never died, and Grindlewald escaped prison six months after being captured). It makes it seem like the entire last movie was useless and it creates so many problems with Harry Potter canon and its timeline and such.
I feel like Tina and Queenie both turned into these stupider caricatures of themselves in this movie. Tina suddenly is incapable of holding a conversation, and Queenie, who can read minds, falls for the bait that the wizard Nazis will help her marry Jacob? Also Leta's character only exists for Newt to look sad about. The character development here sucks.
I actually loved that. It's a natural development tbh. She's not that bright and willing to follow someone so easily if s/he proposes a simple solution to a problem. :D
Oh, yes they do. The beasts either live in Newt's all- purpose suitcase or in the basement of his London house. There are loads of animals there, and Newt loves every one of them.
I will say when Leta explained what her Boggart was and the flashback showed her baby brother slowly sinking in the white blanket, I did get chills because it's pretty horrifying to watch what you know is a baby drown, but that was the strongest emotion I felt watching this movie
You sin Dumbledore for recruiting Newt for this job even though he's under qualified as if Dumbledore didn't task Hagrid with transporting Harry Potter AKA the saviour child AND with the retrieval of the philosopher's stone once they knew it was a target. This is 110% a thing Dumbledore would do.
I like to believe Dumbledore had a "Voldemort, plan B" lying around somewhere that relied entirely on the magical abilities of Hagrid, Dudley and Filch.
in the book it was meant to be sirus who was to collect Harry but he didn't want to endanger him so he gave Hagrid his flying bike to collect and deliver harry
Or maybe because Dumbledore is badass and knows alot of defense against the dark arts spells.... Plus somehow magonagall is in this movie and is the most powerful person in transfiguration beside Dumbledore 🤦
The main characters literally have nothing to do with Grindlewald and the major plot points of this film save for shoehorned romance. The main cast WAS very interesting and now Queenie is basically ruined and Newt and Tina have been reduced to a will they won't they. And at the same damn time, it's not EVEN a Harry Potter prequel film because J.K. can't remember her own damn continuity and lore!

Bad guy escaped and found the kid he wants to use to kill Dumbledore, while newt goes to Paris and catches a "fantastic beast" with his friends (totally forgot their names) and then some sub plot about newts brother's fiance and then some other characters thrown in.
A lot happened they explained a lot about Newt and Leta's childhood and explained what is Grindewald's motive and why he wants Credence... and at the end theres a twist that Grindewald says that Credence is a Dumbledore and we don't know if he's telling the truth or not. Yes something happened in this movie.
@@3872864 Yes, you said it yourself. They explained a lot. The whole movie was basically people talking about stuff and waiting for something to happen. 90% of the movie is just loads of exposition with barely any character development mixed in and serving entirely as setup for another movie.
Oh yeah, I forgot that there are still 3 more of these. WHY are there 3 more of these? They got the blood pact back, they can destroy it and Dumbledore can have the big fight with Grindelwald in the next movie

In the Harry Potter stories the wizards go around wearing robes and quite a few of them seem to have no idea how actual Muggles dress, but in Fantastic Beasts they're all wearing regular suits. When and why did wizards lose their ability to blend in sartorially with the rest of society?
This movie got no retracted sins and I'm not mad about it for once. This movie was basically filler for the next one. If the Characters didn't keep saying they were in Paris i would not have even known. Like there was just so much wrong here 😭

A Heinz to me, the CGI was fine. Things that needed to look pretty, looked pretty. But the story is just all over the place. It feels like they had a solid plot line, but then tossed it into a blender and then used that as a movie instead.
Say what you will about the first movie, but at least stuff happens in it. Barely nothing happens in this, just two hours of boring exposition and misunderstandings that go on forever.
Hmm, the third act has a lot of things happening, so I won’t say this movie has nothing happening. The first two acts are just like collections of scenes from different storylines tho and I can see why people think that way
I was sort of hoping for the Fantastic Beasts spin offs not to focus on the larger story, but on Newt's travels across different countries, and encounters with new characters and creatures which would maybe gradually lead to the story with Grindelwald instead of going with it straight away with the exact same characters from the first movie.
We can pretend that wasn't her. She's not likely the only person with that name, and if magic is all genetics, clearly things would be very familial. There could be another female McGonagall working at Hogwarts who might be a distant cousin or aunt of Minvera's.

Therefore, there is no possible way there could be another Minerva Mcgonagall could be at Hogwarts before our Minerva is born, because any others would be muggle or muggleborn (which are shown to not be able to get high ranking jobs [even teaching jobs] at this time period due to racism and the fear of muggles).

I don't think the MACUSA people know wheaTgrass was Grindelwald in disguise until the very end. Newt figured it out, and was able to take him on. Now do you see what Dumbledore sees in Newt?

What it showed Dumbledore in the movie was a full flashback to how him and Grindelwald created the blood pact, which then later switched to an image of the current Grindelwald, with no Dumbledore in the reflection at all. What the movie was trying to say is that his biggest desire is Grindelwald, but if it stayed true to how the mirror is supposed to work, it would've showed Dumbledore a reflection of himself with Grindelwald, that's it. The flashback makes no sense.

The blood pact must have taken place in a time where they were the closest and he misses that. If I recall correctly, the spell, shown in the 5th book during a Charms lesson, is 'silencio' (I read the entire Harry Potter series to a disabled client over the past 6 months because it's one of his favorites). Which begs the question of how Spanish speaking wizards deal with that.

The 'bigger on the inside' thing is a great mystery of the Potterverse. I've long wondered why the Burrow was always supposed to be this decrepit, cramped structure when they own tents that are bigger than my house. I get that they can be poor in terms of their gold, but they could have all the space they need. Everybody could. Having it be a complicated spell doesn't work for me. Stuff might be complicated, but you can still learn to do it. Anyone can learn how to do something complicated and technical with practice, which is of course why they go to school to learn this stuff. I'm sure it's been retconned on Pottermore at some point.
And it fails because they didn't explain ANYTHING they were meant to in an intriguing way. Like they went more for theatrics and not ACTUAL explaining of things. The characters were out of character (except Newt and the new ones) and generally just standing there. I hope the 3rd one is better or i will be thoroughly upset.

Leta goes to Hogwarts (shes from france and grew up in America) Queenie thinks Grindelwald is good, she can READ MINDS. That blue fire was modified FiendFyre, a super hard, super lethal spell that is easy to cast, but damn near impossible to control. Imagine FiendFyre as being the same as a nuclear reactor, pretty easy to start up, but if you lose control, shit hits the fan, which is why when Grindelwald left it got crazy, because he wasn’t there to keep it in check anymore. It always takes the form of a animal (hence the dragon). It’s super hard to control which is why seeming him control and manipulate it to his liking that well is really fucking impressive which speaks volumes as to how powerful grindelwald is. Although it should have been clearly explained in the movie exactly what was going on. Only die hard Harry Potter fans would have any clue as to what was going on.

There's also others, just a creative application of the silencing charm to make a person so quiet they're basically mute. I know no one legitimately asked, but yeah.
I’m okay with the first fantastic beats, but I never really wanted another movie unless it was about ONLY newt and fantastic beasts (how he communicates with creatures, how he tames them, and maybe more of his backstory in hogwarts. etc)

He looked more like he was the frontman of a tribute rock band, and not the leader of a wizardry revolution. Well the philosopher's/ sorcerer's stone that he made was a target for Voldemort. And Flamel is so fragile from drinking the elixir that keeps him immortal (the stone is an ingredient) a good push down the stairs would scatter him to the winds
It's not the same. Flamel can die easily and will go to afterlife if he gets murdered. He just won't die by natural death. Voldemort was basically immortal. His soul was earthbound due to being fractured in Horcruxes. And for the case one of his physical bodies was destroyed he had developed spells to create a new one.

Do you mean in the movie? In the Harry Potter books i mean portkey would be spot on. Side along apparition floo network whole host of ways to transport people. The only reason Harry was transported other ways in the books was due to being underage and at times the ministry of magic itself being the people who manage such things and being the people they were actively hiding from.
Wayne Pettry but then again - Dear ol’ JK once stated that a powerfull wizard can be able to use spectral transference across countries. But also in this very movie we saw Newt and Jacob travel damn far!
LukeLlama it was messy yes but I don’t think all of it sucked. It’s visually gorgeous and the acting is great for the most part. And that speech by Grindelwald was bone chilling.

King Ezekiel Suzanne Collins had involvement in the Hunger Games films and those did pretty well. George Martin’s involvement in GOT is what made the series good until the show no longer had material and let two idiots do the writing. So that statement isn’t always true.

I know I'm late,but Fawkes showed up because Harry was saying he was an ally to Dumbledore,and he too was in a time of need. Dumbledore himself says something along the lines of "You must have shown true loyalty to me in the Chamber for Fawkes to show up".
Ok... Well the very first sin (that isn't the logos) is you sinning that Grindelwald is killing a fly with some kind of magic instead of his hands. That's just not true. The people who imprisoned him have put some kind of field around him. The fly hit that field and got incinerated. I thought that was obvious, but apparently not.
So if dumbledore says that a Phoenix will come to any dumbledore that needs it and Faux dumbledore' pet Phoenix came to Harry in the chamber of secrets does that make Harry a dumbledore?
This is one of the ways we know that a monstrous liar like Grindelwald is just feeding BS to a gullible, naive young man like Credence. He wants to make Credence fear and hate Dumbledore so that he can be tricked into doing Grindelwald's dirty work for him. The Phoenix story is a red herring.
1) Credence was hinted at still being alive like 10 seconds after they “killed” him. 2) It was glossed over in the movies, but you don’t have to say the spells in order to do them. Saying them just makes them more powerful. This was revealed in the 6th book.
Biggest sin is claiming you'd somehow need a spell to make London all cloudy and grey, while it's actually the default UK weather.

Well I mean 9mm handguns have a smaller effective range than you’d think. Handguns are close quarters weapons, lots of factors affect a bullet’s trajectory, so even if you have perfect, deadeye aim you can miss if it’s windy or something and you didn’t take that into account

The writers could care less about what happened, and so they just jammed too many unneccessary "twists" into a movie that had no plot. They ignored blatant characteristics of certain characteristics (Queenie), gave Newt an unnecessary assistant that was never mentioned before for no reason, shoved an entirely unnecessary misunderstanding between Newt and Tina before they even developed their relationship to be anything more than "hey I'll hit you up if I'm ever back in New York," and rendered the ending of the first movie completely obsolete (Jacob never lost his memories even though he was shown to have done so at the end of the first movie, Credence never died, and Grindlewald escaped prison six months after being captured). It makes it seem like the entire last movie was useless and it creates so many problems with Harry Potter canon and its timeline and such.
I feel like Tina and Queenie both turned into these stupider caricatures of themselves in this movie. Tina suddenly is incapable of holding a conversation, and Queenie, who can read minds, falls for the bait that the wizard Nazis will help her marry Jacob? Also Leta's character only exists for Newt to look sad about. The character development here sucks.
I actually loved that. It's a natural development tbh. She's not that bright and willing to follow someone so easily if s/he proposes a simple solution to a problem. :D

Oh, yes they do. The beasts either live in Newt's all- purpose suitcase or in the basement of his London house. There are loads of animals there, and Newt loves every one of them.
I will say when Leta explained what her Boggart was and the flashback showed her baby brother slowly sinking in the white blanket, I did get chills because it's pretty horrifying to watch what you know is a baby drown, but that was the strongest emotion I felt watching this movie
You sin Dumbledore for recruiting Newt for this job even though he's under qualified as if Dumbledore didn't task Hagrid with transporting Harry Potter AKA the saviour child AND with the retrieval of the philosopher's stone once they knew it was a target. This is 110% a thing Dumbledore would do.
I like to believe Dumbledore had a "Voldemort, plan B" lying around somewhere that relied entirely on the magical abilities of Hagrid, Dudley and Filch.

A Heinz to me, the CGI was fine. Things that needed to look pretty, looked pretty. But the story is just all over the place. It feels like they had a solid plot line, but then tossed it into a blender and then used that as a movie instead.

I was sort of hoping for the Fantastic Beasts spin offs not to focus on the larger story, but on Newt's travels across different countries, and encounters with new characters and creatures which would maybe gradually lead to the story with Grindelwald instead of going with it straight away with the exact same characters from the first movie.

Therefore, there is no possible way there could be another Minerva Mcgonagall could be at Hogwarts before our Minerva is born, because any others would be muggle or muggleborn (which are shown to not be able to get high ranking jobs [even teaching jobs] at this time period due to racism and the fear of muggles).

I don't think the MACUSA people know wheaTgrass was Grindelwald in disguise until the very end. Newt figured it out, and was able to take him on. Now do you see what Dumbledore sees in Newt?

What it showed Dumbledore in the movie was a full flashback to how him and Grindelwald created the blood pact, which then later switched to an image of the current Grindelwald, with no Dumbledore in the reflection at all. What the movie was trying to say is that his biggest desire is Grindelwald, but if it stayed true to how the mirror is supposed to work, it would've showed Dumbledore a reflection of himself with Grindelwald, that's it. The flashback makes no sense.

The blood pact must have taken place in a time where they were the closest and he misses that. If I recall correctly, the spell, shown in the 5th book during a Charms lesson, is 'silencio' (I read the entire Harry Potter series to a disabled client over the past 6 months because it's one of his favorites). Which begs the question of how Spanish speaking wizards deal with that.

The 'bigger on the inside' thing is a great mystery of the Potterverse. I've long wondered why the Burrow was always supposed to be this decrepit, cramped structure when they own tents that are bigger than my house. I get that they can be poor in terms of their gold, but they could have all the space they need. Everybody could. Having it be a complicated spell doesn't work for me. Stuff might be complicated, but you can still learn to do it. Anyone can learn how to do something complicated and technical with practice, which is of course why they go to school to learn this stuff. I'm sure it's been retconned on Pottermore at some point.

That blue fire was modified FiendFyre, a super hard, super lethal spell that is easy to cast, but damn near impossible to control. Imagine FiendFyre as being the same as a nuclear reactor, pretty easy to start up, but if you lose control, shit hits the fan, which is why when Grindelwald left it got crazy, because he wasn’t there to keep it in check anymore. It always takes the form of a animal (hence the dragon). It’s super hard to control which is why seeming him control and manipulate it to his liking that well is really fucking impressive which speaks volumes as to how powerful grindelwald is. Although it should have been clearly explained in the movie exactly what was going on. Only die hard Harry Potter fans would have any clue as to what was going on.

There are a few, langlock springs to mind first, which sticks the target's tongue to the roof of their mouth. There's also others, just a creative application of the silencing charm to make a person so quiet they're basically mute.

He looked more like he was the frontman of a tribute rock band, and not the leader of a wizardry revolution. He also reminded me of a candlestick, which is the last thing Johnny Depp should be compared to!😂

It's not the same. Flamel can die easily and will go to afterlife if he gets murdered. He just won't die by natural death. Voldemort was basically immortal. His soul was earthbound due to being fractured in Horcruxes. And for the case one of his physical bodies was destroyed he had developed spells to create a new one.

King Ezekiel Suzanne Collins had involvement in the Hunger Games films and those did pretty well. George Martin’s involvement in GOT is what made the series good until the show no longer had material and let two idiots do the writing. So that statement isn’t always true.
I don't think even that explains it. There are massive plot holes between the books and the new movies that Rowling has no excuse for letting through. This is one of the ways we know that a monstrous liar like Grindelwald is just feeding BS to a gullible, naive young man like Credence. He wants to make Credence fear and hate Dumbledore so that he can be tricked into doing Grindelwald's dirty work for him. The Phoenix story is a red herring.

2) It was glossed over in the movies, but you don’t have to say the spells in order to do them. Saying them just makes them more powerful. This was revealed in the 6th book.
