    THANK YOU! My husband said this was an excellent video. He never thought about it like this. (he has been doing this for years and never thought of it this way) He is currently working on a N844LT Shibaura motor. Thanks again!! -Phillip & Kirsten

    Doing so, identifying 'that notorious moment' in the combustion cycle for Cylinder 1, in which EX valve is closing and IN valve is just opening, allows him to find TDC (on the compression stroke) for Cylinder 4. Then, all he's got to do is to turn exactly 180° the crankshaft pulley to find TDC compression for the remaining cylinders in the order of the firing order of the engine. In this case, after cyl 4, will come cyl 2, then cyl 1, and then cyl 3. Pretty ingenious !

    You come across as having one of the best approaches to life sir. I like to understand how and why. It helps with troubleshooting too. This valve clearance method is probably the best and I used it last night on my Spitfire MkIV. Thank you.

    Thankyou for making this video. I have used my new found knowledge to adjust the clearances on my old Perkins boat engine and it runs a lot quieter and makes less smoke. Amazingly it also seems to have cured a water leak on the other engine in the boat. You truly are a magician.

    All this for understanding that all the valves must be closed wen you adjust the valve clearance on one cylinder and the motor must be cold...the most important things.
    A good method if you do not a another. Stay to one method if already now one or stay on this one if you learn this one, do not mix them ! Good explanation, i can see that you know very well how an engine works !
    All the beast !

      ROAlexa1981 txs for the comments, and yes you are right. I have tried here to give an explantion why we do the things the way we do. . For those who like to get an in depth understanding. Of course one can adjust valves without knowing all this. However IMO understanding why is as importend as the how . Have a great day. Txs again for your comments

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ROAlexa1981 txs for the comments. Indeed the how is one element and can be enough. However IMO , the why is as important and helps for a better understanding from which people can develop their own methods.

    Great job on the video! I have factory markings on my flywheel, both 1/4 and 2/3, but when aligned the rockers are not at their most “relaxed” position. I have to rotate a few degrees further to get them there. If I adjust at the markings, the clearance would be huge when the rocker reaches its highest lift. Suggestions? Ignore the factory markings?

    The Volvo B18 and B20 method you rotate to TDC, half valves will be loose so set those, rotate 360 degrees and other half will be loose so set these.

    After watching a lot of videos yours finally explained the twenty or so questions I was having so perfectly. Great job. Subbed so I can watch more of your videos.
    Two question though if you dont mind. My tractor is a two cylinder, you mentioned this would only work on a four cylinder. Why would it not also work on a two, as it is half the cylinders. Also it being a diesel means it is a four stroke, no oils added to the fuel, would that be correct.

    • @lasource811
      @lasource811 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah now i see why it only works on four cylinders. After thinking about it a bit more. it is because on four cylinders at the point where you see the out and intake valve being in the correct position on a two cylinder engine, cylinder number two would be in the wrong position for addjustment. Maybe spinning a full turn, instead of a half turn; what do you think. Great method.

    Thanks for the excellent explanation, but i must still be missing something. Why can't you adjust cylinders 1 &4, rotate half a turn, and then adjust 3 & 2? The cylinders are in their top positions regardless of whether you're finishing the compression stroke or the exhaust stronke... right?

  • @itsgonnarain100
    @itsgonnarain100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if you have cylinder 1 on TDC why dont you set cylinder 1 valves ? why set NO.4 when NO.1 is TDC? if NO.1 is TDC then the both valves on NO.1 are closed, right.

    a clean engine , but the fan belt was very worn and pulleys do Not line up Exactly. 😕
    a new lift fuel pump and glow/preheater will be added.

      Its the same method, 2 full crankshaft rotations to fire all 6 or 8 pistons, so 720 degrees / 6 = 120 degrees one cylinder fires for an 8 cylinder that is 90 degrees
