- A Subscriber called Fred asked if I would be able to take a look at a Sena SP46 Motorcycle, which wouldn't turn on after a battery replacement. There was quite a significant amount of damage, so let's see if it's even possible to repair it....
I'm not an expert, but I do enjoy trying to fix things.

Fixing the remains of other people's "repairs" - you have my sincere sympathy.
😂😂😂Thanks 👍
Insightful comment.
I can't believe what the post system did to the plug and trace lines I spent over 4 hours installing. Also, that gasket is why I had to take it apart so many times. Thank you Mick You are a Mericle worker, and I will forever be in your service,
Cheers Fred 👍
Hi Fred, please tell us if it worked or not when you received it.
oh yes mike the windbond chips and the anolog devices to well know brands I enjoy watching you fix elctronics.. next time i am in morpeth i will pop in to the repair cafe keep up the fantastic work 😊
Mick you are a saint among men. £2 in parts and £1000 in labour. Great vid.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂Yes, a lot of time spent on this one. I had to do it in 3 stages as it was pretty soul destroying!
11:40 Wow, Mick, you have patience at a level I'll never have. Those repair strips😱 I wonder if copper tape could be an alternative. Of course, watching through the 'scope I forget just how small this stuff is.
Thanks mate 👍 I've seen @NorthridgeFix do stuff like this in the past. You really don't appreciate how hard it is until you've tried it. It's pretty intense. I'd not like to do it again in a hurry...
"One eternity later"... Oh dear! 😅 Again, you are The Miracle Worker with eons of patience!
Thanks 👍
The patience of Jobe! So calm and methodical, an enjoyable watch, many thanks.
Thank you so much 👍
Mick. The patience of a Saint and the skill of a Brain Surgeon.
😂😂Thanks Bill 👍
I think most people would have just walked away after seeing the damage to the pads. Well done.
Thanks 👍I was pretty much tempted to walk away from it too, but thought what the hell, it's pretty broken, I can't really make it any broker 😂😂😂
As a basic electronics enthusiast, I can’t fathom that 3mm connector 😮… Well done for persevering!
Thanks 👍
Absolutely unbelievable. Astounding skills!
Thank you 👍
Unbelievable patience shown here. There is no way I would not have lost my temper many times with this. I hope you sent the guy a chunky bill for this work - have to think it would have been more economical to buy a new one in this case mind! 😂
Thanks 👍No, didn't charge him except for the postage. I wasn't expecting it to arrive in such a mess. The fault was supposed to be "not switching on" not a total rebuild 😂
The fiddlyness (fiddlyness is a word, right?) of that repair was painful to watch and at the start I thought it would be too much even for you, but you proved me wrong with another fantastic repair, well done.
Thanks Barry 👍
Q- Should I give these trace repair strips a try? A- Nope, not a chance.
Great repair. Well done (as always).
Thanks 👍Yes it was very tedious doing this. I'd prefer not to do another one like this!
Great job with that micro connector. One of my own bike intercoms is always shedding it's micro usb connector because they're so delicate.
On the subject of testing, I've got a pair of Sena intercoms and if your viewers unit has a universal intercom pairing function, it should pair with anything that uses the universal intercom protocol, even a pair of bluetooth ear buds. Mine seems eager to pair with pretty much anything with a bluetooth audio connection. Bluetooth speaker, any intercom it can find. Even on one hilarious occasion I came home and as I was pulling into the back yard it connected to my son's stereo while he was 'entertaining' his girlfriend in his room. THANK GOD it was a one way connection and he could hear me singing but I couldn't hear him. 😮
Thanks 👍LOL @ the son's stereo 😂😂
A good eye and steady hands you've got there bro. Even under a microscope that was some fidgety work. Your patience is becoming legendary, sometimes I lose it just watching😉 Those PCB replacement traces are thinner than a hair and weigh nothing, surprised you could get them to work, well done. Working on someone else's bodged attempt is the worst, the damage is usually doubled or worse. Great video and job on the repair, this time it was all mechanical but highly entertaining. Thanks. See ya soon.
Cheers Terry 👍Yes mainly mechanical and a lot of work. I've had this repair for some time and glad to see it finished. I had to tackle it in stages as it would have taken far too long to do in one sitting.
Mick this must be exhausting work ! I was holding my breath with every pin you soldered and every repair strip you glued in place. Your patience & persistence is amazing
Thanks mate 👍Yes it was. Partly why I've had this for such a long time. First was getting the courage to tackle it, then after doing the removal of the socket, ordering the strips, doing the first row, then having break for a couple of weeks, going back to it, doing the 2nd row, having another break etc. I couldn't have done it all in one sitting.
It's a bit difficult to understand difficulty when something goes right. You only REALLY appreciate what the gentleman is trying to fix, when you see how the gentleman from the US tried to fix it. Then it becomes clear. Buy it Fix it is an electronics repair artist. Nice work, sir. (Yes I can comment on the gentleman from the US, because I am from the US).
Cheers 👍
This is a case of a person who should have their soldering iron removed from their hands! In other words, (they shouldn't own one!)
Good luck on this repair!. NO, that's a whole lot better! 👌👍👍👍 This is one I wouldn't have tacked! Your a brave soul!
Thanks 👍Yes I wasn't expecting this to be in such bad shape when it arrived. I thought I'd give it a go anyway, but I wouldn't fancy doing this again...
Incredible work there. Such a pair of steady dexterous hands.
Thank you kindly 👍🙂
As always, thoroughly enjoyed the video, you are a magician.
Thank you 👍
You're soldering techniques impress me!
Thank you 👍
A brilliant resurrection you have the patience of a saint 😁 Well done Mick 😀
Cheers Mike 👍
I've done that before, replacing pads, barrels and traces. Not anything this numerous! It is NOT for the feint of heart. It is very "fiddly", to say the least. So satisfying when you can get
one in place, nice and straight and have a complete, unimpeded path reconstructed! Aaah..
My fixes were "simple" (one trace and a pad) compared to what you have to fix. I did not know about the mask liquid. That make sense. Nice to know that can also be replaced.
Thanks👍Yes not for the feint hearted. It looks easy on camera, but it's one of those things until you've actually done it and then you find out how hard it actually is 🙂
“Fiddely” indeed. You have admirable patience!
😂😂😂😂Yes, I'd prefer not to do another like this. It was pretty intense!
Holy cow! You should get some sort of award for that microscopic track repair! Bad product design that needs the 2 boards separating to get at the battery connector... unless they were designing it to get easily broken to sell more. I bet you were well chuffed when all your PCB work was completed. Amazing work.
Thanks Mike👍Yes not an easy one this. Very time consuming, and very intricate.
Message for Bubba ! DO NOT send any more "disaster rebuilds " to Mick ! Mick, you can't resist a challenge! Excellent!
😂😂😂😂Yes this one was pretty much a disaster, I had my doubts too at first..
You have the patience of a saint fine sir! That was some really amazing PCB repair work in my honest opinion... Wow! Fred
Thank you 👍
I have a TOMLOV by myself, but no AF 😔
A tip when you use the grinding pen: Add IPA before you start. That will make it dust free (not healthy to breath in) and it make you see better by adding IPA at the same time.
Now you need an anti-glare lamp as well 😁
😂😂Cheers for the tip 👍
This has to be one of the toughest repairs you have attempted. Bravo, your patience is unbelievable! Good job Mick.
Cheers mate 👍
You have got to have really steady hands and a lot of patience to put new tracks on. You make it look easy.
I've watched other people do it before ages ago, it's one of those things until you do it yourself it looks easy. It was pretty difficult and very time consuming, hopefully I don't get another one like this anytime soon 😂😂😂
@@BuyitFixit yep I can understand that you have really good patience with it it was really amazing that you got it working as looked like a real mess when you got it. Really good job.
@@teneilp Thank you 👍
Patience like a saint :D It is a real skill to not let frustration take over at a certain point. Well done!
Thank you 👍
That looks like something I could have done, but I promise it wasn't me, it would have been completely unrepairable If I have attempted to repair it. A great recovery right there my friend. Awesome repair.
Thanks 👍
Wow
I probably would have told him to spend 200 and buy a good used one. New there 5-600.00. i understand the challenge of it and am guilty of spending way too many hours until ive completed a repair or a work around. Imagine if we actually got paid hourly.
Once again you repair the impossible. I really enjoy watching your videos and learn from every video.
Thanks 👍Yes I wasn't expecting it to arrive in such bad shape. I wouldn't fancy doing it again in a hurry.. 😂😂😂
Unbelievable patience!!
Cheers 👍
Hi Mick - nice repair. If you use your grinding tool you can do it linke me and grind in IPA. So you have less dust spreading around and a nicer view during grinding.
Thanks 👍and thanks for the tip!
Nice work Mick ! Another save from the bin ! That was a very fiddly repair ! Good old JB weld is always a must have in anyone’s tool box !
Cheers mate 👍Yes I was surprised I managed to pull it off!
Magic Mick, strikes again. Your family must be so proud of you. Did you hear back, as to weather the device was working? Your a STAR. Thanks for sharing
Cheers Brian 👍I've only sent it back today, and finished the repair a couple of days ago. I would imagine it will be fine, as the original fault was it not switching on after a battery replacement. The connector goes to the power button and the controls so perhaps it got damaged slightly when the unit was first disassembled.
Unbelievable... never seen something like this 😮. Great job and thank you ❤️
Cheers, thank you 👍
Had your work cut out for you on this one..excellent job of patience and skill!
Thank you 👍
Looking at one American fixer and how much he charges per trace repair, I can understand why Fred sent it across the pond. Top class video as always, thanks so much.
Cheers mate 👍Yes it was a bit of a Hiroshima 😂😂
I like a challenge but hell, nice work and dedication.
Yes, quite a tough one this 😂😂👍
your like a wizard with that fix.....excellent
Thank you 👍
Wow, what an absolute dog of a job that was! So cool you got it working again!!
Yes, and thanks 👍
When confronted by an board interconnect issue like this, I often use transformer wire (hair fine) and hard wire the interconnect after mapping out the trace locations. I then bundle and tie together as a tiny multi core cable. Good fix as I thought you might struggle with connections separating when mating the boards back together. 👍
Thanks 👍
God bless your soul for this repair. I can smell and feel my eyes stinging from melting that superglue.
Thanks 👍😂😂😂
"JB Weld"? Brave & Scary, i'd say. Shows i know little about glue. *"Eternity"* not as long as thought. lol *Great Job!*
Cheers 👍A few subscribers mentioned about JB Weld, so I thought I'd pick some up and give it a go 🙂
Wow what a great repair, that made my Nintendo switch lite repair look easy 😊
Absolutely amazing work Mick thanks for the upload 😊
Cheers Gary 👍 I wouldn't like to do this type of thing again in a hurry... Very tedious!
And the Nobel prize in the category "Patience" goes to...
😂😂😂Thanks 👍
Quite a trial. Well done mate.
Thanks 👍Yes it was, I wouldn't like to do it again in a hurry.. 😂😂😂
Great fix, mate, very skillfully done, very impressive 👏
Thank you 👍
That was a very impressive repair. You are a genius my friend.
Thank you kindly
Thank you very much 👍🙂
You are one determined bugger.
I’m determined with everything I do but you take it to a new level.
When I saw the tangle at the beginning I thought you had slim to no chance.
Well done!
Dave
Cheers Dave 👍TBH I was thinking the same at the beginning too!
You done bloody good there my man.... replacement pads can be a nightmare (from what I've watched on other channels...)
Great video again
Cheers mate, yes a nightmare indeed. I've seen other channels do similar before, and I must admit it looks pretty easy until you're the one doing it 😂😂
Wow. Very impressive!! I would have just thrown that out!
Thanks 👍I nearly did 😂😂😂
You're a true Master.
Thank you 👍
Nice job..wished I could do that stuff.. it looks awesome..
Thanks you 👍Yes not for the faint hearted that one!
Great to see what’s possible with great skil and patience. The ‘how to’ and best tools for the job was also extremely helpful. Thank so much for taking the time. I hope Fred is suitably delighted :-)
Thank you 👍Yes he is 🙂
Excellent work. Well done Mick!!
Thank you 👍
amazing perseverance! glad the hard work payed out!
Thanks 👍yes me too. It would have been a bit of a **** if after I did all that and one of the main IC's was fried that you couldn't get or something...
Great work, Mick! That Tomlov microscope looks to be of very good quality! I've been using a endoscope camera, held in a helping hands setup, for years!
Cheers Mikey 👍
wow you done well of a job fixing that it did look like it would be unrepeatable
So did I at first, luckily it worked out well 👍
I can only image how stiff your shoulders are now, Mick haha.
You took your skills to the next level.
Thanks mate👍 , that's why I had to do it in 3 different sessions. It was a c**** of a job and not something I'd like to do again any time soon!
Impressive fix!
Thank you 👍
Believe it or not, human beings suppose to care for each others' safety no matter how far the distance that separates them. I for instance got some serious issues 10 years ago but when I see a senior citizen carrying a heavy bag, I always offer my help.
The most patient northerner on TH-cam
😂😂😂Thanks 👍
Great patience and steady hands!! Keep up the great work.
Thank you, yes I wouldn't like to do that again in a hurry 😂😂
Looks like a fix! Thanks. Now I will watch it all😂. What an incredible job! Patience, steady hands and extreme dedication. Amazing.❤
Cheers mate 👍Yes, I wouldn't fancy doing it again in a hurry though!
Patience, persistence, like is seldom seen. amazing video
I just recently started watching your videos and just when I think I;ve seen you reach a high point, you surpass it again .
😂😂Thanks John 👍
Great work! -And if it was easy, everybody would do it.
Thanks 👍and absolutely!
Wow what an amazing video you are very talented. That was loads of work and very hard work too.
Thanks 👍Yes, I've seen others do similar work, but it's not until you've tried it yourself you realise how hard and frustrating / time consuming it actually is 🙂
Aw you would love my new test meter, a NOS 1970's Soviet u4341 AVO meter with all its leads and prongs in sealed wax bags and even its testing components to calibrate never used, got it for a tenner off of ebay and its working like brand new, only nause was the orange protective foam cushions inside had reacted with the paint on the front panel and lifted some of the printing off. Very accurate as its a military spec meter, OK it doesn't have a beeper on it but can do milliamps, volts AC and DC, ohms singular, kilo and mega and capable of testing 3 phase mains... Def recommend picking one of these up, abs gawjus Soviet technology still working nigh on 50 years later :)
Thanks I'll look into that 👍
Great repair work, I didn't think it would be successful at first. It's a shame that the microscope isn't available in the EU either. 😞
Thanks 👍I think it should be available soon, as they said the start of October.
Good job! It Looks like most of those traces went to test points or through hole vias (already with exposed solder) I think if i did it, i may have just secured the connector and ran jumpers to each of those points.
Thanks, yes that's pretty much what the original guy did. I thought I'd have a go with these strips and it did seem to be a lot neater when finished although it was very time consuming. Yes the traces went to test points, the connector goes to the power switch and user controls which probably explains why it wasn't switching on.
You’re a brave man 🇬🇧👍🏻
Indeed, I wasn't expecting it to arrive in the condition that it did, but I thought I'd have a go and tackle it anyway. I wouldn't fancy doing it again in a hurry though 😂😂
Your reputation is spreading every which way (and rightly so). My thoughts were to use the tiniest piece of kapton and slide each pad strip under until you can secure the other ends (easy for me to say)..
Cheers mate👍Yes not an easy job this one. Managed to pull it off, but I'd prefer not to do another one like this!
14:44 - I think, it would help if you put some soldering paste there ("cinol" is what I use), then you put trace pad, just so it stick to it so it doesnt move or flip, then you put drop of solder mask and cure it. If you do it dry, nothing is there to prevent it from moving. Just like solder balls, its easier when you put paste, remove it, then balls stick to the place because of small amount of paste remained there.
I did have a search for cinol but some weird drug came up instead 😂😂😂
@@BuyitFixit I searched for ingredients, cinol or tinol paste, is vaseline paste that contains Zinc chloride.
Try searching Zinc chloride, it should display this: Zinc chloride is used as a soldering flux, battery electrolyte, and crowd control agent.
The point is, its viscosity is not liquid and not hard like rosin, its like gel, so it can hold traces while they are soldered or cured with UV lamp. Something like AMtech paste in syringes.
Top marks, as always, from Wayne & Nina!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great video, from a man who has the patience of a Saint!!! Lol!!!!
😇😇😇😇😇😇😄😄😄😄😄😄😄❤️❤️❤️❌️❌️❌️❌️
Wayne & Nina
Cheers Guys 👍🙂
That’s the most solid repair I’ve seen with those replacement pads. You made a huge effort to add stability to the connector. Is there something different that you would do if you took on another repair like this?
I have a feeling that the jbweld plastic epoxy will hold up better than the superglue. Would you mind testing and showing how well it bonds to the board?
Thanks! 😊
Thanks 👍The only thing I would probably do if it came across my desk again is put it in the bin 😂😂😂 I wouldn't fancy doing another any time soon. I had to tackle it in stages as it was very time consuming.
It really is time for you to humbly retire your humble phrase “I am not an expert”, Mick. Your patience and skill are 💯 expert level. My hat’s off to you, bravo!
Thanks mate👍 I do try, but I'm still no expert. I do get things wrong and don't know everything 🙂
@@BuyitFixit you just described everyone on the planet, including the “experts” 😂
😂😂😂😂
Great repair as usual. I have wondered if it would be possible to glue lifted/replacement tracks down using high temperature paint, the kind that's used on fires/exhausts etc. Apparently it works up to 600c, and sticks to metal so it might work. I just haven't had any repairs recently to try it out.
Possibly, It would be better if they were slightly self adhesive, then you could use the PCB mask on them at each end to secure them. The problem I was having was they getting them into position and getting them to lay flat on the board properly.
Wow that was a challenge. You can pair it to your phone to test audio steaming is working.
Thanks 👍I'd assume the rest of it was working, as the original problem was just the battery, and then it wouldn't turn on. That connector goes to the power switch and the press button / wheel control, so I guess that was the cause of the problem.
Well done, Speaking as a watchmaker you should consider upgrading your tweezers they would make things easier.
Thank you and thanks for the tip. Would you have any recommendations?
@@BuyitFixit Dumont are possibly the best however they would be much better for the copper tracks they don't open wide enough for smd work. I use both types myself and there are so many types but the main difference is they are so much stronger.
well done mr hi-tech macgyver
Thank you 👍
WOW! I would have walked from this one. After seeing the previous carnage that was done!! That being said, another amazing job bro!!!!
Not sure what that unit is worth? Can you post the price please? In case I ever get one of these for repair, I will know when to walk.
Thanks 👍I think the owner said around $500 new so I'm not to sure. I wouldn't fancy doing one again put it that way, and I wouldn't think it was economical to repair due to the time and labour involved.
Phenomenal - that's all I can say!
Cheers mate, yes I didn't think I'd be able to pull this one off, but it all came good 👍
outstanding mick
Cheers 👍
Good job very fiddle well done
Cheers 👍
Above & beyond....... There's always a career in micro-surgery if you get fed up with the farm. :)
😂😂😂😂Cheers Chris 👍
Nice fix.
Thank you 👍
You just pass your test for heart surgery mate😂😂👍👍 Great job.
😂😂😂Yes indeed. Thanks 👍
I have tried to fix things here for people. I will say when the connections are that close is when i have troubles soldering them back on. I managed to get i, but after a long while of fighting with it.
Yes, not easy work.
Amazing work, and great to see it fixed. What make/type of solder mask do you use?
Thanks 👍It was just some I picked up off Amazon or Ebay (It was a while back) Mechanic LY-UVH900 it has written on the tube.
"My gizmo is broken, quite dead"
To Mick that's what I said
Give it us here
And hold my beer
I go where others dread
😂😂😂Nice👍
Solid work as always, and great content. I do think, however, aside from its value as content, it is probably not a monetarily viable repair for you or the client, as it seems like an equivalent replacement is somewhere between $300-500 USD. Between shipping and whatever labor you charged (or would have if you were a normal repair shop), the owner probably could’ve just bought a new one. Unless there’s some sentimental value to this random Bluetooth motorcycle intercom 🤷♂️
Agree to all of that.Yes I think this would totally be an uneconomical repair. I didn't charge for it, except for postage costs. When I was first asked to have a look the connector had been re-attached, and I think it got knocked off again in transit, otherwise I probably would have thought it was too much work. When it arrived, I thought I'd have a go. I don't think I'd tackle another one, but I've proved to myself I could do it if I really had to, and gained some experience in such work 👍
Congratulations! You polished a turd. Great job
😂😂😂That's one way of putting it.
That was absolutely AMAZING work! I hope you charged the customer a good amount for that repair. That is very difficult frustrating work, even with that new microscope.
Some questions: Where did you buy those trace repair strips? I didn't even know they existed. I should get some. Where did you find JB weld? Its not available in the UK.
That TOMLOV microscope is NICE! Zoom and autofocus! Does it have a HDMI output? Can the built in screen be removed from the camera?
Cheers Simon 👍The strips were from here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185546567562 The JB weld I also got from ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164609966147 The microscope has 3 way simultaneous output, so you can view on the screen (not detachable) while viewing or recording on the PC over USB, and viewing on a screen via HDMI too. I've only tried it on the HDMI and internal screen at the same time myself though which worked as advertised.
Wo😳oW
Is this a Meteor Inzident 💫☄️💥🔥
But, the previous try looks not Bad only it doesn't work long👍
10:37. 16:33 🤣🤣🤣💨🛸 huiiii. Its Magic🪄.
