- Tonight we are going to test over 16 metallic colored pencils, including: Prismacolor, Polychromos, Crayola, ColorIt, Derwent & more! Which brand do you think will reign supreme in this head-to-head battle? ;)
Post Event Update...
Wow, that was a lot of work, but fun! The results were surprising. In the end, we discovered that the Crayola Metallic and the Faber-Castell Metallic EcoPencils appear to be the same pencils. We also found that they were two of our top picks! Not bad for student grade tools. Plus, they come in at only about 58 cents US per pencil.
The other surprising result came from the Spectrum Noir Metallic colored pencils. I was pleasantly surprised at how soft these pencils are, and the colors are beautiful! And for the price at around $1 per pencil US they are also a good deal.
So in the end, my two recommendations are the Faber-Castell EcoPencils and the Spectrum Noirs. Here are a couple of links to them on Amazon if you're interested...

QUESTION:
Is it just me, or are there NO "dark" metallic colored pencils?
I'm looking for a metallic dark, rich, ruby red pencil or a brilliant emerald green and a darker, shiny royal blue. Also metallic orange...I've been searching for weeks and still have no luck.
Any suggestions?
I have the Faber-castell eco pencil metallics pack. I find them kind of scratchy feeling but i love them and they always make my coloring look so pretty!

Really enjoyed this session as I always do. With the prisma color metallics I think the pencil that is marked "bronze" in my opinion is actually more of a gold color and the pencil that is marked "gold" is more like bronze. I have been trying to decide which set of metallic pencils would be best for me and watching this I'm definitely learning. I've got one question for you, does any of the manufacturers make a metallic red or anything close to it?

Faber-Castellated Eco Metallics: the copper pencil looks more like metallic red. Hope that helps to your question from a year ago.

Thank you Steve. I use Prismacolors but I am not a big fan of their gold. I bought a Blick gold and can't wait to use it. I also got a small Derwent Metallic set. All the golds are different and have that color well covered.
Watching the Fabre Castell Metallic Pencils.
My set came with a bad Gold and a Bad Copper where their seems to be a crusty substance on them.. I tried sharpening them to try and scrape that off with no luck... I just can't get the color to lay down. All the other pencils were wonderful to swatch out... But these two metallic pencils are just the pits... Can I fix this issue or do I buy a new one?
Hi. I noticed you were using the Carl Angle crank pencil sharpener, do you recommend it for Prismacolor Premiers pencils?
Could you try the new Arteza Metallic Triangular pencils?
If i was to splurge on pencils? A full set of prisma premiere (currently have the 72 set) PLUS a full set of polychromos (currently I have 0)

This is awesome!! I have the Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and I really do not like the silver/gold/copper metallics in the set. I'm thinking the Crayola Metallics are going to be my next addition lol. Thanks for doing the comparison for us.
I see why you hate gold and copper but don't see why you hate silver, that's the only metallic pencil I have ever liked. I personally don't like metallic pencils in general and will switch to metallic gell pens and or blend grays instead.

Carmelle Lapointe almost any metallic gold gel pen, though I’ve only tried Gelly Roll.

No color names drives me crazy too. That’s one thing I don’t like about Sharpies. Very irritating indeed 🤨

I love Polychromos-- but their metallics are disappointing. Prismacolor is better for metallics. Just sayin'.
