The water dulls their shell. Try a rainforest environment with extremely high humidity and a dry zone(ideally a second tank) for sun bathing. My turtle is pretty vibrant. Had my red eared slider for 17 years, he was my dad's, and he had him for 18 years, going on 35 and super healthy. Also...if you hold your turtle every single day for a few hours a day (and play with it) you'd be surprised how cool of a pet they are. My turtle loves my cats.
As a turtle owner myself I've tried keeping multiple different types of fish consisting of various sizes and I can say that even if the goldfish is bigger then the turtle they will still try to munch on them my last gold fish looked like something straight out of a zombie movie by the time my red eared slider got though with it
Hello Luke, turtle expert here, i would start feeding him hikari koi wheat germ, this helps them to shed their scutes. these are red bellied cooters which grow pretty big! their patterning does unfortunately fade as they get older however after a shed they will appear fired up
Just a heads up because it can look concerning if you don't know what's going on. There scoots are going to be falling off soon, so if you see their shell start falling off, dont worry its natural.
I own an exotic pet store and we had someone surrender a turtle who had been living with these small fish some mollys and an angel fish and there was never any aggression it was really cool to see how well they lived together, eventually we found them a good home
In my experience, the fish being large isn't going to stop turtles from biting them. They may be unable to swallow them whole or anything like that, but they'll certainly take a chunk out of them.
I remember that we used to have these turtles Timmy and Totty and though we got them at the same age, Timmy grew a lot faster than Totty like Squirtle to Stubbin. Though Totty died in 2017 to an infection, timmy kept on growing and passed in 2021 to unknown causes. This story makes me remember of them ❤ RIP Timmy and Totty 🕊️
Make sure to occasionally feed em shrimp and cuttlefish bones for the calcium maybe even blood worms! They LOOOVE blood worms by what ive heard And you should try making sure their gender as I think snubbing may actually be a girl try googling the species of turtle and how to tell their sex appart
Aww!! My turtle did the same thing! I upgraded him from a plastic tub to a real tank and he got HUGE! So fast! And yeah, that pattern goes away but they grow a new one! Mine was about 6-8 months before those baby scutes finally came off

When turtles get proper care and nutrition, they really do get very big! Once they reach around two, Squirtle should ease down on the scute shedding a tad. I keep a different type of turtle, though, so I don't know if I'm necessarily correct.
I love his shell and those intricate designs. My grand puppy is a corgi. He had tHEE cutest little spotted nose as a puppy. As he grew the spots faded. He is still darling even without his spotted nose.

they must have brighter colors as children so they have a better chance of hiding from predators

My turtles are vegetarians because my plants don't move and my fish do

I agree with you I've owned my 6 turtles for almost 20 years and no matter the size of the fish they will still tear them apart

As a fellow turtle owner it amazes me how that can happen in a mater if months. It took my turtle well over a year to get that big.
