I like it. Love your reviews. I think it's a great looking bike. Am I going to buy one? No... I'm 63 and I like to tour with a passenger, so I'll stick with my last-forever '97 Super Black bird
These bikes are such a well balanced package, the best fueling of any bike i've ever ridden and i've owned three over the years. What they don't tell you is that triumph sells a kit to retro fit the round headlights to the new models. Yes Aprilia Tuono and Super Duke make more power but they aren't bullet proof reliable as these bikes are...they are anvils.
I have it's little brother, (2012 street triple)! I feel in love with the style of the Triples! After 3 years of ownership and your review.. I think I want that upgrade to the Speed! :) I knew eventually I would want to get a bigger bike. This review just solidified that want!
Great review, I had the previous model for a year and loved it. My only gripe would be why haven't Triumph moved the exhausts down to the same position as the Street Triple.......loads of owners are going to have to shell out extra for a low boy exhaust.
really good review as usual! i test ride the 2016 speed triple R yesterday, one thing i want to ask , may be it was the demo bike but i though the throttle was very snatchy in the traffic. gears, clutch and all the other expects of the bike was just right. +Bike World Did you get funny on and off Throttle respond? In the review it says perfect fuelling. My current bike is 2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200S and i only get snatchy throttle on sports mode. ThankS!
+Tan Cakar really good review as usual! i test ride the 2016 speed triple R yesterday, one thing i want to ask , may be it was the demo bike but i though the throttle was very snatchy in the traffic. gears, clutch and all the other expects of the bike was just right. +Bike World Did you get funny on and off Throttle respond? I own 2012 R, the one with PVM forged wheels, and i love it. But really the 1050 triumph needs a redesign, that engine could weight 15kg less and put out 15-20hp more if designed today.
+Jay C if they could do a front end like the duke R i would agree but the nose is just too looney for me . all the refinement and that disgusting headlight is hanging off the front like wtf. just my 2 cents
I went to check one of these out in person today. I love the looks of it. Reminds me of my 07 FZ1 just better looking lol. I currently ride a 14 S1000rr but want another naked and this is on top of my list. Matte gray will do me just fine lol. Maybe sometime next year after the 2017 models come out. That way, they'll practically pay you to take the 2016s off the showroom floor lol.
So I went to test ride one about a week ago, not sure if this thing had a power limit since it new (like S1000rr) but it felt blah. Brakes made me scared as well. Maybe because it was new. Not sure of any of these will change after a break-in but first riding impression left me unimpressed. Still love the looks and still under consideration. Next up FZ10.
kenny harp Ha ha ha We are looking/considering at the exact same bikes. FZ 10 is nice except for the very small tank range for about 110 miles. So far you like the S1000R the best? Maybe we should go for the 2016 model in spring they will drop in price. Good luck and please keep me posted. Thank you
E.S. Slc haha yep. See I've had an 07 FZ1 which I purchased new in 2010 and traded in 2013 with 42K trouble free miles. I therefore have no issues trusting another Yamaha. The snatchy throttle issue that everyone complains I didn't have in my 07 so I can't speak on that. I don't have the Single R, I have the RR Supersport and honestly I didn't even look at the single R because it's essentially the same bike, I want something totally different hence why the naked BMW is not under consideration. Will keep you posted as I test the FZ10 lol.
Finally some power numbers! Bit disappointed they didn't get to at least 150 bhp. What was the official torque number? Biggest mistake was no quick shifter, not even simple up shifting. Given its ride by wire, what stopped them devolving an auto blipper function for down shifts? Would I trade up my '08 Speed and go for a new model, probably not.
Great review Luke; did you notice any difference with the weight vs. older speed triples? Have they lost any weight elsewhere? My main grudge with riding one was that they didn't feel so nimble compared to it's rivals...
Let me asked you, which in your opinion would you want, Ducati monster R or the speed triple R ? Oh 1 other question lol will the monster R do a clutch less wheelie in 3rd?
+Christian Thiele I still prefer my Street Triple R. More than enough power for real life situation and more nimble. The Speed is too heavy, compared to the Street Triple, I mean.
The day they changed the round headlights they really killed the design. i would say take them back, put the exausts down on both sides and bring some more colours and maybe it will take some of the legend back
Really hope this isn't much better than my 2011 speedy as I can't afford one ATM! Don't like the fact that the front lights have gone Japanese but it does look good.
That's a lovely review mate. Thankfully it wasn't as Hollywood/Bollywood styled and it was the most to-the-point review I have ever seen. Sadly, I can't afford it the Speed Triple or rather anything that's even a world famous 250/300 because of horrible pricing here in India. Rode Street Triple with full Arrows system an year or so ago and loved it. I am quite sure Speed would have been awesome!! :)
zombies4sale bikes are way behind cars with lighting, ive just gone for this 2016 model as for the first time the day time running lights are different to simply dip beam. I have a habit of fitting HIDs to my bikes but hopefully the lights on this 2016 model will be adequate
Shame. Was always a dream bike for me when I moved up to a full A license. Used to spend a lot of time procrastinating uni work on the Triumph configurator...
I want one, but i don't know if i could handle that front end. It's as hideous as ever. Those headlights just don't look good. But it's a great bike. Perfect example of function over form here.
+Zone Television Really? 138 hp is not enough? This bike has a superb powerband for street riding and it is not a full-on sport bike with low bars and a fairing although it is so good it is very capable on a racetrack. I can't use the full capabilities of my modified 100hp 675 STR on public roads without getting killed or in jail. Motorcycles with 150+ hp are getting ridiculous for public roads and are more scary than fun. Get real; that little rear tire contact patch now needs extensive electronics to prevent disaster. The hp wars are now rendered pointless and motorcycles that are good-looking, fun, capable, and comfortable are the ones that will sell in volume eg the new Triumph Bonneville line. The old Speed Triple would rip through the quarter mile in the 10 sec bracket; is a half second faster going to make any difference on the street?
+gwwayner understood but it's still outclassed but the Tuono and Superduke neither of those are sports bikes (per se) but to relevant and competitive it really deserves at least 25 more bhp I own a street triple and it has more than enough power for the street in the real world dudes are always asking for a bit more
+Fuel to Blaze No. one reason is because at junctions cars where pulling out on motorcyclists with both headlights on thinking it was a car in the distance, when in fact it was a bike not very far away. with having one light on its more likely for road users to recognise it as a bike approaching and not a distant car.
this thing is 2k euros more expensive in Greece than in UK and 2.5k for the R model. Germany has the same prices as the UK. European union my ass.. if STR is expensive bike for an english man imagine for a Greek at +2.5k..
still the same power , come on triumph I was expecting more , I've had a go last weekend after testing 1000r and new gsx-s 1000 . Its as good as bmw only missing power . Its a waste opportunity for triumph , not to make engine bigger ( ktm )
Triumphs are so underrated! One of the best bikes in the world, in my opinion.
+sql-lover Triumphs are so underrated! One of the best bikes in the world, in my opinion.
Really appreciate how you've composed this video with quality shots and included a hearty dose of facts from the press pitch.
I like it. Love your reviews. I think it's a great looking bike. Am I going to buy one? No... I'm 63 and I like to tour with a passenger, so I'll stick with my last-forever '97 Super Black bird
A couple more updates and they'll be back to the round headlights. YAY!
Always loved the Triumph bikes, even going back to those made long long ago! Great reviewing!

Spoken like someone who has ridden a lot, and continues to do so.
The best motorcycle...ever!!! I've had crotch rockets and then I got a 2013 Speed Triple. Comfortable and powerful and has the best roar!!!
I have it's little brother, (2012 street triple)! I feel in love with the style of the Triples! After 3 years of ownership and your review.. I think I want that upgrade to the Speed! :)
I knew eventually I would want to get a bigger bike. This review just solidified that want!
Ugh it looks so much better now with that tail and flyscreen. Pretty much top of my wish list now!
+Renzsu i just don´t like the red bits. would recolor them- a bit too flashy for my liking, but other than that, looks fine
Triumph has got its act together and its doing well
Major Kudos for smoking the back wheel!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Bike looks like it's heading in the right direction
really enjoyed this review - subscribed! I'm looking forward to testing one during the summer!
Great review, I had the previous model for a year and loved it. My only gripe would be why haven't Triumph moved the exhausts down to the same position as the Street Triple.......loads of owners are going to have to shell out extra for a low boy exhaust.
Really great review, bikeworld is making the best tests out there, congrats to luke!
Just to clarify, the Ducati 1200 is RATED at 160hp, Motorcyclist Dyno'd it at 131 at the wheel.
Great review. Thanks a bunch.
+Brick Vader thanks!
very good review!! i like this update version of the speed triple!
keep up the good reviews!
Excellent review on a fantastic bike. Well done 👍
No the seat is not from the Daytona 675R it's totally different!
Great review, now subbed from a street triple owner.
really good review as usual! i test ride the 2016 speed triple R yesterday, one thing i want to ask , may be it was the demo bike but i though the throttle was very snatchy in the traffic. gears, clutch and all the other expects of the bike was just right. +Bike World Did you get funny on and off Throttle respond? The Speed Triple is one sexy beast. If I had the skills I would get one but my Street Triple R gets the job done.
That's a beautiful bike! This Triumph is the only model that would make me jump ship.
+CLUTCH1ST :)
+CLUTCH1ST You know you'd love to get a Tiger 800 and go on adventures with Yodabolt!
As a sports bike rider, this naked has piqued my interest. Nice review.
+Jay C if they could do a front end like the duke R i would agree but the nose is just too looney for me . all the refinement and that disgusting headlight is hanging off the front like wtf. just my 2 cents
Piqued
+shashwath rao thank you Master Rao
+Jay C you're welcome padawan c
+shashwath rao 😂👍🏾
wait what? why only the left lightbulb lights up during riding? was the right one broken or did they split the high beam and low beam?
Triumph is killing it lately
Very nice. So what's the main difference between a Tripple and a Thruxton purpose wise?
Such a good review I had to subscribe :)
6:30 i guess that's a very nice looking one!
Hi, how do you feel it handles compared to the 2015 model? on paper it looks like a 15kg saving on weight?
I went to check one of these out in person today. I love the looks of it. Reminds me of my 07 FZ1 just better looking lol. Great review mate.
Great stuff as always. How many times can you say immaculate though! :)
+Coldfin9er There's a quickshifter from Triumph, 415 € - aftersales. Only upshifting, but probably not street legal in my country...
+Horst Egal that quickshifter is for the 675, not the 1050
.
drz1050
Yes, but on the German Triumph page there is also one fitting the new Speed Triple S and R (1050ccm).
Great review Luke; did you notice any difference with the weight vs. older speed triples? Have they lost any weight elsewhere? My main grudge with riding one was that they didn't feel so nimble compared to it's rivals...
+Alex hill In the latest Motorbike magazin they say it's dry 192 kg. Not bad.
+Christian Thiele The 2016 is heavier than the 2015 and earlier models... those were 189 kg.
Let me asked you, which in your opinion would you want, Ducati monster R or the speed triple R ? Oh 1 other question lol will the monster R do a clutch less wheelie in 3rd?
Where do I sign guvnor
They do 3 exhuast systems, twin Arrows, low boy 3 into 1 and Arrow twin off road system, which is the system i am havind fitted.
what version of the triple is this one? r or rx?
Definetely will buy it this spring. Can't wait. Good bye, Street Triple.
lucky bastard
+Christian Thiele I still prefer my Street Triple R. More than enough power for real life situation and more nimble. The Speed is too heavy, compared to the Street Triple, I mean.

David Perez Nah, the changes are just evolution.
Harley advert over triumphs video,s. Are they worried. Dam right they are. Triumph rules.
nice review once again. are you going to do one of the new explorer?
+Peter Gunton Yes, It'll be up in two weeks Peter.
+Bike World Which helmet mount is that on 4:24?
Really hope this isn't much better than my 2011 speedy as I can't afford one ATM! Don't like the fact that the front lights have gone Japanese but it does look good.
+David Wills The front lights have gone Japanese?
+SineOccasu yeh the Japanese bikes normally have one light for low beam and one for high but the European stuff normally had it integrated in both.
David Wills
ahh I see what you mean.
138hp? Is that crankshaft hp or at the rear tire?
+T. Doyle Crank
now THAT ... is a nice helmet. Sweet bike too.
Nicely done!
I'll stick with my Street Triple RX :P

The side profile is really nice but I'm not a fan of the new headlights.
I know, they should of stuck with the old new ones.
+zombies4sale
No. The ROUND ones.
planedr Well we best hope it is interchangeable with both types so we can all be happy :)

A non snatchy throttle - take note Yamaha & Suzuki.
+Mansacktastical It's that damned fuel cut. It was terrible in my 2012 FZ1 (in my opinion anyway), but after a $200 ECU reflash... perfect.
I've heard a rumour that Triumph might be ditching the Daytona. Does Bike World have any inside info on that?
true
Shame. Was always a dream bike for me when I moved up to a full A license. Used to spend a lot of time procrastinating uni work on the Triumph configurator...
Review the Street Twin when you can
+Albert Tran we have Albert: th-cam.com/video/JYvDHSDwEjo/w-d-xo.html
+Bike World where lap times being recorded? If so where did you guys rank
+Bike World LOL thanks
+Albert Tran No worries Albert!
great bike, definitly a possibility
I think I'm in love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good review.
Let me guess... It's immaculate.
I want one, but i don't know if i could handle that front end. It's as hideous as ever. Those headlights just don't look good. But it's a great bike. Perfect example of function over form here.
clean
That sound. :)
Good review, please wear leathers all the time, or at least kevlar jeans.
PSST TRIUMPH ... !!!!!!!!! YOU NEED MORE POWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thomas Elliott really ? You need find a new hobbie.
seriously Triumph, you went with the trend of having one light on, one off.....ugghhhhhh.
+greg alford I know right ugghhh indeed.
Its not a trend. it's for safety.
1Equinox1 What? Making the bike less visible?
+Fuel to Blaze No. one reason is because at junctions cars where pulling out on motorcyclists with both headlights on thinking it was a car in the distance, when in fact it was a bike not very far away. with having one light on its more likely for road users to recognise it as a bike approaching and not a distant car.
+1Equinox1 It doesn't work in Russian Federation ;D
Did the cyclist give you the finger?!
+quwers No, he was waving!
Triumph needs to stop trying to turn a street fighter into a race bike, just come out with a big bore Daytona and be done with it!
this thing is 2k euros more expensive in Greece than in UK and 2.5k for the R model. Germany has the same prices as the UK. European union my ass..
if STR is expensive bike for an english man imagine for a Greek at +2.5k..
S. Model far far better ROAD bike.
I love Triumph, but in no way can that monstrosity be called good looking.
Fully agree
+Gary Lowe It could be worse. Look at the Z1000!
Andrew Spooner yes. Good point. The Z1000 is another monstrosity but of a higher level.
At least they changed those god awful headlights
I think it's quite good looking.
