Lexus LX or a Land Cruiser are the best SUVs ever made.

Almost half an hour of blab but no mention of the Lexus LX or GX?
Luxury, dependability, and very good off-pavement. If they need maintaining/fixing, it'll cost a fraction of the Porsches, Benzs and Land Rovers, and one can find a shop that can work on them a lot easier when away from a major city. They also aren't envy/hate magnets. A low mileage, scrupulously maintained LX or GX at 6-10 years old are fairly easy to find, and will cost less than, and last twice as long as, most new North American suv's.
Being largely based on the Toyota Land Cruiser and 4runner, there are plenty of after-market upgrades and off-roading mods and accessories to choose from. Their major flaw, in my eyes, is pretty poor fuel economy.
Pre-cyborg-insect-style-change models look understatedly classy, too.

I'm glad the luxury SUV market exists, they fill spaces that the other brands don't. What suv can you get under 185" long, less than 75" wide and under 70" tall so that it fits well in an urban setting, under ground and parallel parking but has a decent ground clearance and awd for the snow and ice we get here in Canada and can tow over 4000 pounds (to get a couple snowmobiles to the mountain and back). From what I can see that limits you to the GLC, the Q5 and the Discovery Sport... If you stretch those size constraints you can include the Touareg but thats about the same price point anyway.

I have a 3.0 Supercharged Audi Q5 and it was affordable and fantastic compared to everything else I test drove in the same "class".
If I stepped up a class I would go Range Rover or Porsche, but probably lean more towards a Porsche Turbo.

The main reason most people like driving SUV's is the higher driving position gives them a feeling of power and control... While most never need them they offer a differen "FEELING" than a car which is the biggest reason most people buy a vehicle.

Can somebody answer me this, what is the purpose of the Lexus GX? When there is already the RX and LX it seems the GX is just a hyped up mix of the 4runner on steroids. Plus there is the Sequoia in which I don't understand either. Why does Toyota/Lexus have all these options? The Sequoia and GX are close in price range.

After studying the luxury SUV market and driving almost all of them; I have to say that Range Rover Sport V6 for it price is pretty decent SUV to get! HSE model adequately option is only $85K-$90K. Sound a lot but if you look at the Dynamic model which can go to $115K, the HSE is pretty cheap in comparison. Don't mention the SVR model - ridiculously expensive! And there is the Autobiography model which is the top of the line too! The HE is the entry level model which Range Rover dealers do not stock! LOL!
Even if one can afford a Range Rover Sport; the cost of maintenance and repairs after the warranty expires is just mind blowing! So if you see someone with a 5 year old Range Rover owner; I feel for that person!

Saying “Porsche” with a silent E, just tells the world that you didn’t know the brand existed until they came out with the hideous Cayenne. You don’t care about the company or the brand history, you just like the marketing.
