    I'm 4 minutes in, and all I see is a lot of leg management by Doug. He's super focused on getting those pool noodles in a comfortable position.

      Dan Rau Bought a used Range Rover a couple years back. Can't say iv'e had any major problems... It's been overall a really reliable car. There's a few positive side effects to owning a Range Rover too. Go-anywhere capability, girls absolutely adore it, you can see everything it's such a tall car with very good visibility, and well it's a Range Rover... All kinds of gadgets and things that are totally unnecessary but are absolutely awesome.

      iTheGeek Really? Iv'e gotten nothing but positive feedback from people about the car. It's a Sport Supercharged, so it's the sleeker looking of the two models. Not the big, tall ugly Range Rover Vogue. Though the new Vogue is very handsome, much better looking.

    My first car is the perfect first car. 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. It came with a supercharged 3.8L V6 that made about 260-270hp and has a leather interior, heads up display, 8 way power seat with power lumbar, heated seat, sun roof, 12 disc CD changer, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS (the front brakes are even dual piston) it looks good, and the engines run foreverrrrrrrr, mine has 174,000 miles on it and they frequently hit 300,000 miles. I paid $1,600 for mine.

      No such thing as a reliable GM made in the late 90's-early 2000's. Head gasket, they're an extreme weak point, they go anywhere from 10-75 miles. Not cheap to replace.

Have a look on Kijiji and EBay and see how many thousands of Monte Carlo's and Grand Prix's you'll find advertised as spares because they have a blown head gasket that would cost more than the car was worth to replace.

    90-92 camaro/firebird is the perfect first car. It has an airbag for the driver, no assists other than power brakes and steering so you actually learn to drive, small block Chevy one of the most reliable platforms known to man, parts are cheep, they're easy to work on, fun to drive, and it has enough torque to get out of the way of a car that's gonna t bone you. I bought my 91 for thirteen hundred dollars swapped in a 350 that I got for $600 it's been my daily for 5 years and she has never done me wrong

    No Volvo wagons??

    • @jasonfifi
      @jasonfifi 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jhowe427 i've owned 3 volvos, but none were my "first." my first car was a nissan hardbody salvage title that i'd built a wooden bed for, and my second was an 87 camry estate... i had an 89 volvo 740, and i can say it would be a fantastic first car. it was rear drive, bulletproof, and it had a certain luxury to it... at least compared to what i'd been driving up until that point. it handled predictably, and it was as reliable as wolverine. i was rear-ended by a cop, and the cop totaled his car, but i just needed a new bumper skin... the exhaust got slammed on a pothole, and the hole welded itself shut on the way home...
      i also had the turbo, but i can say with certainty DON'T GIVE A TEENAGER THE 740 TURBO. it was fast, it broke down a LOT, and did i mention it was fast?
      i had a 1966 122s amazon... that was pretty rad. not a good first car at all. it stopped like a boat, and that was fine for me, but most kids don't have any self-control.

    I had a 2002 Mustang GT 5spd, I paid $3000 for it. I put about $850 dollars worth of stuff on it; Exhaust, intake, springs, small exterior mods. It had 247WHP when I took it to a Dyno, It wasn't very fast, but it was loud, looked good, manual, and practical for me. I loved It to death. And I still have it, just don't drive it much anymore. Now I have CJ7 jeep, with a some work done to it, and I'm currently on the market for a new Corvette Stingray. I Live in florida so, it didn't need to be AWD, and I didn't have to worry about snow at all, so a RWD V8 was good for me.

    A lot of thought goes into getting a teenager a car, but opportunity is also a big part. A friend of mine was looking for a used civic in good condition, and ended up with a 2013 Ford Focus. He never imagined getting a focus, but when his neighbor told his parents that he needed to get rid of it they couldn't say no. Then car has around 12k miles and he bought it with no interest for $5000.

    I'm a teenager, so obviously I wanted something fun, quick (not fast), with fun predictable handling, but reasonable cost, and also wanted some practicality.
    So, knowing cars, I wanted a warm-to-hot hatchback, that was classless and safe.
    My research turned up; VW Golf GTI, SVT Focus, Civic Hatch SI, or Mini Cooper S.
    I went with a red, first year R53 Cooper S, with 69,670 miles on the odo, for a shade over $4,000 on Ebay Motors.
    And I bloody love it.

      @gmansplit 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +appelpower1 I'm 15, and am looking forward to an mx-5 as a first car(first gen)which i will buy with my own money, as my mom says she would rather give me a 1996 auto Camry we have, which is not too appealing.

    • @appelpower1
      @appelpower1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      gmansplit That Camry is probably a good car, but it's definitely not a petrolhead's car. I'm about to turn 17, and I'm saving up for a driver's license and an MX-5 now. It's a brilliant 'my first petrolhead car', being easy to maintain and non-threatening to drive, but still great fun.

    • @gmansplit
      @gmansplit 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      appelpower1 I agree, the Camry is a great car for your average american non car person. Safe, reliable, fuel efficient, quiet, and practical. But the Miata is definitely more for me.

    • @appelpower1
      @appelpower1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gmansplit It is. The Camry is very utilitarian, but the MX-5 is much more desirable.

    these guys just love to rip on teenagers. personally im almost 17 and ive been driving around my dads truck for a year now. we arent idiots. ive been saving money for 3 years. looking for an evo 9. and guess what, i never go more than 5 mph over the speed limit, because if i get a speeding ticket i have to pay my insurance. im a responsible teenager with a job and as much as older people love to rip on teenagers but it is a legitimate fact that adults text and drive way more often, and also wreck more often. so just because some teenagers are idiots doesnt mean we all are.

    my first car at 15 was a 2002 Lexus sc430. wrecked it 4 weeks into 16 and my mom is driving it currently because it was killing our insurance. then I got a 2008 mazda3 hatchback touring that my sister had absolutely torn apart from driving too fast in the pothole minefield known as downtown Birmingham (Alabama not England). the front bumper was being held on by duct tape and things were constantly going wrong with the engine. fed up with having to pay for repairs constantly my father sold it and bought me a 2014 Dodge Avenger SXT v6. it handles smooth and accelerates quick. it also isn't bad on insurance and is an IIHS top safety pick. I love it.

    My first car was a 1989 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer. My parents bought it for me as a Christmas present for $700. It was almost guaranteed to break down every winter and the clutch was super heavy. Still the most fun car I've owned and it's the reason why I get excited everytime I see an old cherokee on the road

    My first car: 1993 Honda Accord LX 4 door Automatic, Tan with burgundy interior, power everything, and one airbag. I got it from my grandfather who had bought it new in 93 and garaged it only to take it out to the doctors and the grocery store. It had 68K when I got it back in 2013, this car was mint, and still is, (besides the dime size rust spot in the rear wheel well). I drove it throughout high school and it was a dream to drive. In my opinion it was a near perfect mix of the raw driving experience you get with older cars, and the not so exciting but fun to drive newer cars. It had the original dealership tires on it from 93, in excellent condition, which the owner of a small auto shop noticed before new tires were put on the car and asked "Can I have those? They belong in a museum...or even better, I could make some money off of them." Now I drive a 2010 Honda Accord Coupe V6, which goes along with the notion of getting a college student a two door. The 93 now, still in excellent condition with just over 80K on it, a new exhaust, and a new antenna, is back with my Uncle (Grandfathers son) who is using it as his winter vehicle. His daily driver? Nope, not his 1996 Nissan Truck he has driven cross country multiple times. It is however, his 2015 Corvette Stingray with 460 bph. Let that sink in for a moment. That is almost one 93 Accord for every 2 cylinders. But I would take back the 93 any day because it was practical, fuel efficient for a car of that age, low cost for maintenance and repairs, and just fun in a place you never thought you would find it.

    Jeanette we're practically car twins! My first car was my dad's old MKIV Golf 2.0 5 speed that I put an aftermarket exhaust on (high flow cat, down pipe, and cat back) also has a bilstein cup suspension. However, I didn't want it to rust away here in upstate new york where I'm now going to school so I bought a B5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 5 speed for $900 in non-running shape, and fixed it up so I can start restoring the VW. That Golf has been in my family for nearly 16 years and no major issues!

      IMO that's old-fashioned advice more suited to the 1950s/1960s than the 2000s/2010s. What teenagers value depends on what they like, not whether they bought it themselves or not.
      The fact is that teenagers today see cars more as commodities than investments. Fewer teens/young adults are driving and more are biking or taking public transport, simply because to them, it's just something that gets them from Point A to Point B.

As a teenager I was in love with it, so I painted the rims, emblems, and grill black and also installed roof racks to make it look like a outdoor vehicle haha the car was very easy to drive and looked amazing. I have never got in a accident with it and had no problems. In a few months I'm buying a new car, and I was first planning on buying the new mustang but people told me it will brake down easily, so I am currently looking at the Mercedes cla 250 sport plus. I am just hoping I won't waste my money and crash it the first month I get it.

Its big, its fast, and its loud. (and it doesnt leak anything at 196xxx miles) and I haven't hit anything yet, not even a parking barrier. And it drives just fine with no assists, its got a Throttle pedal, a Brake pedal, and a steering wheel, the rest is bonus.

It is very surprisingly low on insurance being a 3 door car, and where I live the average price for insurance is around $300/month CAD. I use mine for college helps carry around a lot of stuff and is very fun to drive, great handling. Honestly go with w.e. works best for your individual situation, but always consider practicality, running costs, and reliability. You can always get the car you really want later on. My first car was a absolute beater 93 civic hatchback and it was a great first car. It was totaled within about 8 months. The wreck wasn't my fault, but it was something I could have avoided had I been driving more defensively. I learned a lot from that wreck and never had an accident since (17 years ago now).

    Everything is great until you lose a kid in a car crash because he was in a 10 year old car with not even side airbags while you had perfectly enough money to give him a top safety pic that could have saved his life but you didn't bought it because you didn't want to spoil the kid. Spend the rest of your lives thinking what if I had given my kid a new car with all that safety things that, let's face it, is a lot more useful to someone learning to drive than it is to someone that already mastered the art of driving. I'm not saying buy a freaking Mercedes but buy him a 2013 Honda fit, golf, versa or similar with the freaking modern safety tech, if the kid crash the car make him pay for the repair, but keep him alive to pay for it

    I just bought myself a first car. a 2007 vw passat wagon. 2.0 Turbo, 200 hp, quick enough, 7.5 sec 0 to 60, usually, even though it is a heavy front drive car, you don't use all that power. and one more thing, I am from NYC, , don't have my own garage or driveway, and it is quite big car, but I don't have bigger problems parking it. it has a very good visibility all around, what is a plus. The mpg is not that good, about 13-14 in the city, but it is a turbo so that is why I can say. and the reason I bought this car is the mileage, I bought it in June with only 22.5k miles, and now , after about 4 months it has 27.5k. I hope it will be more reliable than people say it might be.

    I had a 1983 Mitsubishi Cordia SR as my first car and it was the slowest and most fun car I ever had it had a whopping 86hp and it weighed a featherweight 2000lbs(910kg),had a twin stick dual range transmission you would only see in semis(8 gears boi), did the 0-60 dash in 11.6 seconds(10 seconds if you utilised the 8 speed correctly)had no drivers aids or anything you had a seatbelt,a radio,a nostalgic digital clock and comfy seats for features and it was very practical for a 2 door hatch and it could comfortably seat 4 adults and a kid surprisingly. I still own the old girl today as my DD after 11 years and it's much quicker than before(does the 0-60 dash in 6.6 seconds with warmed up drag slicks impressive for the old N/A 1.6 that's tuned with 80s Mitsubishi Perf parts) would I recommend one to someone else? Nope get a stripped down civic hatch and you'll have around the same amount of fun without the pain of owning a rare car

    This is hilarious!!! lol i love these WCSYB shows. i just watched all of em in a row!!!
    I'm one of those kids who got nice cars after getting their license lol.
    Got my license 4 months after turning 16. Drove my moms new 08 Toyota Highlander for 9 months until my birthday and was bought, by my parents, a used 2007 Nissan 350z manual.
    Started working and started to dump my money on car modifications like dual exhaust, test pipes, dual intake, etc. I live in CT and I drove that thing all year round! Got snow tires for it and put that thing through 3 winters! loved RWD in the snow! never had an accident in that thing. put 50 thousand miles on that thing in 2 years and later once AGAIN my parents got me a 2015 Subaru WRX STI.
    And again im dumping my money i earned into this thing even tho i was told by my parents not mess with a new car....... mod bug bites hard....
    now cars about to push over 400 to the wheels.
    Now i look back at it tho and I see how fortunate i am but I still see my friends and you guys with the beater cars and i get jealous because i rly rly wanted a beater manual car for my first car that i can thrash on and work on. But my parents wasnt willing to get me a used car that would have repair bills or something unsafe.
    Sometimes its more fun to drive a car you can beat on. (like rentals)
    If i had to get my kid a car, safety would be most important and everything else just depends on what kind of a teenager he is. Manual is always a good idea. idk if awd is the best idea though because sometimes they take that for granted and itll make them think theyre even more invincible on the road.
    I would be the dad to scare his kid in a car and teach him not to push your luck.
    future petrolhead dad!!
    Keep up the great videos and i Jeannette Klein is absolutely the dream girl! Invite her to more videos!

    I started off with a Integra and then sold it for 2000, I used that as a down payment for what I drive now which is a 2011 bimmer. Its best if parents make their kids buy their own shit because then later down the road they'll appreciate it more and that will make them drive a lot more responsibly.

    A decent first car would be an early 2000's malibu or impala. The v6 has a decent torque curve, good on gas, easy as hell to drive. Only thing I bad I can say about it is that they would feel more at home in the late 70s and they have some minor gremlins. But it will take care of you as long as you take care of them.

    My first car was a 1989 geo metro four door. It really taught me that you don't need horsepower to have fun.
    Also it had not airbags whatsoever and when a metro gets in a crash with a motorcycle, the motorcycle wins, they're horribly unsafe cars.
    That said, the 49hp 1.0L 3cyl got me my first speeding ticket, 82 in a 65.

    Got a wrx hatchback 2003 with 280,000 km on it for $2300 CANADIANS!!!the body is shot but it drives great. It took $900 for new brakes, fluid changes and to fix a hole in the muffler and now it's my daily.

    A Golf TDi is a very good first car: great gas mileage, great looks, bulletproof, loads of fun, space for your friends, etc.

    I bought my daughter a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3. Stick shift, hatchback, reasonable mileage, good handling, not too expensive. More reliable and easier to work on than a similar priced subaru.
