The Lincoln Navigator has been around since 1997, and for the 2022 model year the 4th generation receives a mid-cycle refresh
The Navigator retains its big bold boxy shape, and exterior updates include restyled front and rear fascias that Lincoln says give it more presence.
and this full size SUV definitely has presence. The chrome bits are tastefully placed and if that’s not your thing, the highest Black Label trim has a special edition package that’ll add black trim and wheels. Either way you get it, the Navigator looks classy and that’s perfect because when you’re hauling around cargo as fine as me, you want your ride to show up and make a statement.
Speaking of cargo, there’s a button to open the rear glass to make quick drops without opening the tailgate. Behind the 3rd row there’s (20.9 cu-ft).
Folding the 3rd row will yield up to (63.6 cu-ft) and with the second and third row flat, you’ll have (103 cu-ft) to work with, which is less than the Cadillac Escalade but more than the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. If more cargo space is needed, a long wheel base model almost 12 inches longer can be had on higher trims.
The interior of the navigator is truly a good place to be regardless of which row you’re in. There’s a button to push forward the 2nd row seat that’s worth mentioning, and the 3rd row has a flat and low floor thanks to the Navigator’s independent rear suspension. Besides seating comfort, the 2nd row also has plenty storage in the door bin, pockets behind the front seats, and under the center console. Plus you’ll have 4 cupholders, AC outlet, and USB A and C ports.
When you’re driving the Navigator, you’ll want to go anywhere because it is a comfy cruiser for sure. This doesn’t have air suspension like the Grand Wagoneer or the Escalade, but it does have a road sensing camera that sends information to the suspension for a more pleasant ride.
All trims come with a 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 making a stout 440 horsepower (440hp/ 510 ft-lb) which is down 10 horsepower from last years model, but the torque figure remains the same.
Losing horsepower is never fun but the Navigator being this big body on frame luxury SUV still feels quick, the 10-speed automatic transmission is smooth, and the massaging seats make me forget about where the horsepower went.
Added peace of mind in the form of standard safety features to help keep the bangs and dings away include blind spot monitor, lane keep assist, forward collision mitigation, and a surround view camera.
The Navigator comes in 3 trims: Standard, Reserve, and Black Label. There’s seating for 7 or 8 occupants and RWD is standard on lower trims, but AWD is available and comes standard on the highest black label trim. The base Standard trim starting at a little over $77 and a half thousand dollars ($77,635) not including destination includes LED headlights, power running boards, hands free lift gate, power folding second and third row seats, tri-zone climate control, wireless charging, and adaptive cruise control. Keep in mind the base model is the only trim that doesn’t offer a long wheelbase variant.
Competitors in this Full Size 3-row Luxury SUV segment include of course the Cadillac Escalade which now has an available 700 hp supercharged V8, my goodness, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, or the GMC Yukon Denali. And if you’re looking overseas, there’s also the Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX 600, and I’ll even throw in the Mercedes Benz GLS for kicks.
There’s some pretty stiff competition for the Navigator but with it’s bold presence and comfortable interior, this may be a solid option to course your next road trip.

Great review Mike! We have a ‘21 L Reserve model, that is used primarily for family road trips and hauling duties, and it is truly a remarkable vehicle. The attention to detail, quality in craftsmanship, prodigious power, and fact that we average in excess of 600 highway miles on a tank of fuel has me in awe.
I was extremely skeptical about getting an American made vehicle, however after fourteen months and 20k miles, no regrets.

I really like how he nitpicks about the interior. They are not petty complaints, they are things that you will actually care about if you use the car on a regular basis.

What a great car. And I agree with Mike, that some of the extra quirks should be added. Maybe for the 2023 model year, I hope they watch it at Lincoln. But I must say I still love my 2013 Navigator and Midnight Sapphire Metallic and plan to keep it forever.

Danger is 6’4
I have absolutely no use for a vehicle this size since most of my driving is alone or with one passenger, and even though I would spend 100% of the time not enjoying the luxurious 2nd row, I kind of want one. I'm sure that out of town guests would really appreciate it for the two times a year that I have more than one passenger. 😎
What's a perfect sized vehicle for you? Or do you think they're all getting a bit too big these days?
@@kbb Great question. I actually do think that they're getting too big. I know that the current Civic is about the same size that the Accord was 30 years ago, and it seems to me that the current Ranger is at least as big as an F-150 was 30 years ago.
@@kbb Just saw the Jeep announcements. If that Jeep Recon is as good off road as a base Wrangler, and the price isn't insane, that might be the one for me. I'm not likely to buy anything before next fall anyway, so I have time to change my mind another 273 times.

is console adjustable to driver and passenger?
Concerning the rear hatch, I think people just really forget that these modern vehicles detect your key so when you walk away it locks automatically, just as it unlocks when you approach. There’s no need to ever take out your key really. Just throw a kick under the back to left and close the rear tailgate.

I feel the gear selector could have been a rotary dial like in the Expedition, but wrapped in chrome or some other "luxurious" material, the gloss black push button shifter looks out of place in a Lincoln.

Not a fan of Hyundai/Kia products but I have to admit for the price you pay for this, I don’t think it offers that much more than a telluride besides interior space and towing capabilities.

@@ejohnson3131 My wife has a loaded Palisade that I've driven on long road trips, also driven a 2020 Navigator. These vehicles are not in the same universe.
Navigator much more powerful, rides smoother, quieter, better seats, better sound system, and fuel economy is not much different.

Escalade V is also like 50k more than the most expensive Navigator though. Not really comparable. And for 150k I’d be looking more at a 1 year old maybach GLS or a new Range Rover than an Escalade that costs 2 times as much as it looks like it’s worth.

Please stop slapping on those tacky 2nd row screens. Kids have tablets, tablets are easy to upgrade and operate. You can buy a case that hangs off the back of the seat. Parents have hotspots on their phones. At most, include in-car Wi-Fi.
Those are usually an option that you can avoid. We tend to agree. Same with navigation that adds cost to the bottom line. Just include Smartphone connectivity and we're good!

All Ford vehicles have been recalled, this will be one of them. Ford decided to move their production to Mexico, instead of building them in America. As a result, the quality of their vehicles have been garbage. Every month, or every couple of weeks, you hear of another recall from Ford. Buy anything that isn't Ford, GM or Hyundai.
Huh, my 2017 Raptor hasnt been recalled, and has well over 300 jumps to its name.
