I think the Lat 64 River was probably the easier disc to help me get distance as a beginner. Lots of glide and very forgiving for a novice. The “It” would have been great option had I known it then. Great list Robbie!

Maybe a weird beginner disc but I think the roc is great for someone newer. Not as overstable as the numbers suggest, cheap, and will teach you how to properly cycle discs. The feel I could see someone not liking but other then that they are great.

When I was starting (back) out, I really leaned on the Underworld from Westside Discs. Super flippy and easy to make go straight when you're figuring out your arm sped.

    • @nonstop1861

I still use the underworld for turnover shots since I can only throw backhand. Underworld and Wedge are my go to disc for that

The discraft sol and the innova mirage are two of the best beginner discs out there in my opinion. They helped me learn to throw straight at first and then helped me learn to throw turnovers after that

The Mirage is dope. It's wildly understable but so fun! Sucks for putting in my opinion, but wow, can I get some wild turnover shots

Great video Mr. C. Had discs for years playing rarely until I moved last August and my backyard touches the second fairway of a disc golf course. Then I went crazy and watch a LOT of videos like this to learn and get better.
    What works 4 me:
Putter: my chain eater is the Aviar putt and approach, cause Aviar.
Upshots: Aviar3 for drives and hyzer. A Roach in Jawbreaker for grip and I think it is basically an Aviar with a more rounded edge.
Midrange: Buzzz in ESP. Z plastic dumps on me. LOVE the Meteor in ESP! Love. Started out going the straightest and longest for me. Now starting to fade right on backhand like it supposed to do.
Fairway driver: don’t throw them because my midranges go just as far with more control right now. Have tried and like the Leopard and River. On the shelf until they are more useful to me.
    You do you tho.

    Biggest tip I give beginners...
Get a friend with similar skills... Go find a big field... stand facing each other at opposite sides... throw the disks to each other.
You have plenty of time to step out of the way... (Personally I like catching them... takes a bit of practice... DON'T use your shin to stop a disk... q8D
The funny thing.. You'll find it easier to throw a disk to a person than a basket... So in a game... think of the basket as your friend ... "Here, catch this one".
I find the Diamond is great for going the opposite way than most of your other disks!
I'm a Right hand backhander... and I haven't got my forearm up to speed (and just hurt my arm if I throw too many Fore's...
So most of my shots go straight or to the left (unless I tip them back in an Anhyzer, but then the turn is a big arc...)
What I need is a disk that goes straight, but then turns RIGHT... and that's where the Diamond comes in...
With a decent throw from a little Hyzer, it flips up, goes straight but then turns right before either hitting an edge and rolling (or if I got the hyzer right) it goes round to the right and fades to flat as it hits the ground....
It takes a bit of practice, so not exactly a beginners game... but for those channels with a turn to the right at the end... (usually a forearm throw) out comes my diamond.
As for a beginner disk... Something I loved while learning was my Lattitude 64 JADE. quite forgiving, goes straight and long with a fade just before it lands but doesn't wander too far off target (so for a right hand backhander like me, I just aim slightly to the right , away it goes, and shifts a little to the left at the end.

I just started playing about a month ago and I'm addicted! Your videos have been super helpful. Thanks!
I recently picked up the river because I don't have the arm speed yet to toss my 9 speed. The second toss with it was my longest toss to date. I also love my Mako3 and my Buzzz.
Quick question how many of each type, putter, mid, fairway and distance, should be in a beginner bag?

Great video today. I had never heard this so let me ask make sure I heard you right. With the IT if I don’t have a strong arm speed I should get a max weight one. And it well fly straighter?

Weaker or slower arm or slower thrown, a light one will go more straight. The harder its thrown, the heavier it needs to be to fly.
