The musical "Aladdin" features an Alan Menken score with various collaborators: the late Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin. Here, Menken and Beguelin talk about building the new Disney hit.
I kinda wanna cry. This man has basically helped shape all of our childhoods and childhoods for generations to come with his beautiful music. I just, he is so inspiring and I am thankful for everything he has done for this world.
You're not alone in feeling that way; I feel the same.
***** Well, you're emulating the very best in the business, amigo!
He is a genius his work formed my childhood. Howard was one of the most incredible people I love his sense of humor and his style of lyrics.
Ginny Weasley My favorites of Alan's work are the Broadway version of Newsies and so far of Tangled the Series
Howard Ashman was the man he changed my childhood as well as Alan. Everything he touches turns to solid gold and I treasure his talent. Alan I know this probably doesn't mean anything to you but Howard would be extremely proud of his boy if you will. They were the two best of friends who adored working together and made incredible music together.
so iconic. i bet there are hundreds of songs in an alan menken vault that never made it into the films. i would love for them to release an album
To hear and see the hands that originally wrote and played the song we all grew up with, play it through so powerfully and beautifully, is so moving. You are an incredible composer, Alan. Every song you create is stellar. You are an inspiration and a legend.
I just want to hug Alan, Chad, and Tim. If only Howard had lived longer
I had often heard about the cut song, "Proud of your boy" and it paints a compelling picture of Aladdin beyond the scrappy street rat with a heart of gold. If anyone watched "Aladdin and The King of Thieves", it is ironic that Aladdin believed his parents were perfect until the truth about his dad is revealed.
Tafami I do remember. And i did see King of Theives way before watching the original Aladdin. Which makes it even more ironic. The first time i heard Proud of Your Boy was Clay Aiken's cover for the Special Edition DVD.
Alan wrote the soundtrack to many peoples early lives.
I do not see Aladdin until March. But i already love the new songs. Particularly A Million Miles Away and These Palace Walls
It broke my heart everytime he talked about Howard..
i Grown up with The Little Mermaid Beaty and the Best and Aladdin and i seen the show twice and it is a must see show
Um dois maiores músicos compositores que o mundo já conheceu! Alan M., um mito.
I love YOU Alan!
This shows why Alan Menken is a genius.
Ever heard the phrase "No shit, Sherlock"? (Pardon my language.)
Does anyone know where and if it is possible to find the sheets of those accompaniments Alan Menken plays ? (not piano cover but voice accompanimets exactly what he play in the video)
I would be really thankfull !
Alan is a true genius !!!
I think he's just generally improvising in this video, based on what he's written in the past. Or he has it all memorized, probably a mixture of both. My piano teacher in high school had a disney songbook for beginner piano that she would embellish on top of. I remember I could never do it as gracefully as she did. You should be able to find books like that on amazon or ebay, and I would think they'd have them at different levels.
Ah, Howard is missed... :/
GO SCORE THE NEXT DISNEY ANIMATION BIG HERO 6!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don Diego If Big Hero 6 becomes a musical which is doubtful, Pasek and Paul (Dear Evan Hansen) should do the music.
