This was the most amazing event. It is easy to forget what a genius Alan Menken is because his body of work is so prolific and current. His music marks many of the most important events of my life; graduation, weddings, birth/rebirth/death, this man is a genius. I have cried many a tear listening to his music. He knows more than anyone in the world how to pull a heart string.
What an incredible legend. Watching Alan Menken play his hits just makes me a little sad because I wish other masters of their craft would all survive to old age to be able to showcase their art like Alan is still doing. Think of a man like Kobe Bryant passing away so early, never getting to enjoy decades of love of appreciation. Alan is a gift, and we're blessed that he's still here with us going strong.

Just turn the pages -- if you please --- see, my prayers are on their knees --- while my heart is in my hands -- like a flip flopping fish. Maybe they write down the lyrics and a small phrase or idea. Repeat that idea while humming the song. Naturally speeds and and down by feeling. Then decide on more advanced harmony and ornamentations arrangement later.
