Bob , Brad. Thank you for these videos! My daughter (in her early 20s) has had a pain in the buttocks (central buttock) for several years. She has had x-rays , gone to a chiropractor, and done manual work from physical therapy.Recently a doctor requested 4 MRIs, of both hips, pelvis and coccyx… and the only thing that came out weird was L-5, S1 bulge … her pain is not down her leg . Are these exercises helpful if the pain is in the coccyx area? Her pain only happens when she tries to run more than 8 to 10 minutes. The pain calms down when she doesn’t run, but the fact that she can’t do much aerobic stuff that is normal for peers of her age is really affecting her .
Hi Bob & Brad, thank you so much for all you do! I have watched all your videos related to sciatica twice while I've been out of commission for a couple of months... I wish I had discovered you before I did the damage... I've had sciatica before so I did exercises that had previously worked for me... I was happy when the pain left my back, went to my thigh...then down my calf to my toes... I kept doing the exercices and really damaged my foot... eventually couldn't walk... foot was cold... it was bad...came across McKenzi method and stopped everything I had been doing... allowed my body to heal... pain and hypersensitivity in foot has significantly improved... traction helps, numbness in great toe subsides when I hang off counter 10 times per day... walking 3 times per day with no tingling or numbness in foot or toes during walk... and I feel pain in back which is good right..? on the right track.. here's the question: when I do the McKenzie method cobra push up, I can push myself all the way up, lock arms BUT when I do that I feel tingling in toes... should I push through or not..? I floss but it feels wierd so I only do it once or twice per week.. I'm 61, athletic, runner/ yoga practitioner so I typically push myself through discomfort... unsure if I should... that's what got me into this trouble... learning to surrender... Colleen from Canada
Hi la divina, I had no choice but to surrender... the process of healing sometimes requires us to come to a complete stop... to go into the pain... sometimes pushing through cause me to injure myself again, so I learned everything I could about sciatica due to herniated discs vs periformis muscle... I had both... and learned to listen to my body... I'm 98%... still working on it...there are things that trigger set backs such as long drives... so I need to limit driving... hope this helps
Guys thank you so much for the information. Definitely appreciate the education on a topic that is very important when you have this problem. Thanks for the advice. About 5 years ago I had sciatica brought on by lifting a forty pound water bottle. I saw two different chiropractors and a massage therapist. Between the three I recovered. It was the worst pain I ever had and my right leg became hard. But as I recovered things became normal. I did spent 6 months sitting on a balloon and never in a chair. I avoided chairs for three years...used the balloon and laid down or stood up. Recently I am experiencing some discomfort. I will try your exercises. Ann
@@satishchodankar5676 I am 63 now. I was about 53 when all this happened. My chiropractor was about to send me for surgery. I didn't want to go that route. It was serious, I couldn't sit or lay down. I got a rash all over my legs from over the counter pain meds. Even my massage therapist thought I would need surgery. I feel the final healing took place because my massage therapist knew how to do a treatment with hot rocks and tone. She also specialized in alignment. I remember going home from her in pain. That night as I laid in bed I felt my back moving, several pieces moved. When I went back for the next check, I was improving. Each chiropractor I had, had a different approach, and those treatments, which included stretching my torso on a table and the other chiropractor rolled my leg on a wheel because it has tightened up like a rock...all helped. My massage therapist gave me alot of support, too. I needed all three to recover. I did not start sitting on a couch or chair until 2016..fall.
When I was 23 I Was in a near fatal car accident in July 2021 ended up getting a T3-T4 Herniation L4-S1 disc Herniation. After getting released form ER I went to the hospitals (recommended) orthopedic Surgeon. He threw me a packet and said surgery. I asked about other treatments he said that’s all he recommended. My lawyer referred me to a physical therapist based off my insurance. Started going to HESS Spinal for 18 weeks (Bi-Weekly) told my PT what the surgeon said and after seeing my X-rays he laughed and called him money hungry. Told me to start watching Bob & Brad on my free time while I was attending treatment and ended being the best thing ever. A year later my new X ray showed one of my disc completely re- absorbed itself back into place. I call or text My PT once in awhile and he tells me the same 3 things stretch, walk and take it slow. I’m 25 now and feel great. Lost 30 pounds quite active now boxing and playing tennis. A better bull in the bedroom. Only time I feel any discomfort is when I sit too long or improperly in whole that squeezes my back as I’m a software developer. Thus putting pressure on that one little spot then it’s micro tingles throughout for 30 minutes or less. But as soon as I do one of these exercises. ( especially the door hang) I feel great and back to normal. Thanks bob and brad🙏

I find that sitting back in my chair is not good for my lower back (which does have an L5S1 disc bulge) - this is because the back of the seat is LOW compared to the front of the seat. I have found I sit forward and tall is helpful. (most of the time I use a standing desk)

I have been dealing with sciatic never pain going on 4 mo's. I have been doing all of these exercises & nothing is working. The constant pain in my lower back, buttocks, pelvis, & the pain in the front of lower leg & throbbing pain my ankle(left side) has started to wear me down even mentally. I take strong pain pills, muscle relaxers & nerve pain meds with little to no help. The pain is worse when lying down & I can only sit on the right side of my buttock. The stretching exercises are excruciating, but I try to do them daily even though my buttock _ thigh start to spas _ cramp. I've had multiple visits to the chiropractor, multiple steroid injections (get only 1 day of SOME relief) & the si joint injection provided absolutely no relief. I'm still doing the pool aerobics bc it's easier to exercise in water, but will stop as the pain is still debilitating especially when waking in the morning which is usually any where from 2 to 4a.m. as I can NOT find any position comfortable enough to lay down. My pelvic bone hurts so bad that tears literally run down my face. Just sitting on the toilet & Even coughing is so painful. I can't sleep but 2-4 hrs bc the pain is so bad. I'm exhausted & frustrated. Asking for prayers from all who believe.

I am a wheelchair user and recently hurt my back with prolonged leaning over. My sciatica only goes to above the back of my knee. I’ve had 2 previous surgeries over 20 years ago for a re-occurring disc prolapse but it was mainly the other leg.
My MRI report says- 1. Lumbarspondylosis. 2. Diffuse disc bulge at L4-L5 level 3. Posterocentral disc protrusion with posterior annular tear at L5-S1 level. One Dr told me that i have fucked up my back doing all the crazy stuff at the gym and another told me that it's nothing to worry about, MRI is an intensive test and it may find minute details/findings from ur body that has nothing to do with ur pain. So he basically said, no one can expect to have perfect lumbar disc as all our lives we put so much pressure on our spine. But guys, i have been feeling pain only in my lower back region, it doesn't go to my hips, not even to my legs. I can run for 5kms and I don't feel anything. But when it comes to sitting, or doing things while sitting, it bothers me a lot. I mean this is a pain that don't stop me from doing anything, i can still lift weights but i just don't feel comfortable enough. I mean that mindset of feeling 100% fine is not there with me anymore. I feel tight, a strange kind of stiffness, hell i can't even express in words. The focal point is something near sacrum/tailbone area. Can someone help or even relate?
I can totally relate. I have same problems with same symptoms. As a frequent gym goer too, I can understand how it feels to not be able to perform 100 percent like before. I hope that if we give time to ourselves the pain will eventually go away. Best of luck to all of us suffering!!
Hey Bob and Brad. What's up. Ive been doing the press ups for about 5 weeks straight. Sciatica down my left thigh still not getting better. Love your channel.
Walking and only walking for 6 km daily gave me relief from this miserable pain of sciatica.... Thanks guys... Thanks a lot.but I still can't sit in chair for Long time... My disk has been fixed by physiotherapist 3 months ago.
I have a broad based protrusion on LT lateral disc between L5-S1. Also DDD @42 yrs old. Sciatica is on my left leg for 2 months and no pain on my lower back except for when I do the McKenzie method but very rarely. The pain originally started on the lower back was there for 1 week went away started again and was there there for 3 weeks. Didn't figure out that the reason wasn't really from vacuuming or trying to clean the toilet but from sitting in the car for 3 hours each time prior to doing these things. Also standing for 2 long can cause sciatica as well. Who would of thought this. Pain doesn't always come from injury or old age and disease. Tried Gabapentin it does not work and withdrawal was a little scary. Some people like can't take anti-inflammatory meds. I tried stretching before watching Bob and brad and it spread the Pain from my thigh further down to my foot even though I didn't feel pain while doing it. Please don't try to touched your toe when you have sciatica. This has been the most depressing time of my life. I have 2 young kids to take care of and during covid times. Any one living in Virginia with a successful treatment to sciatica please respond. Doesn't matter what kind of treatment. Thanks.
Hey B&B, thanks for your videos! I've been doing that hanging thing from the top of my interior door frames. But when I do it, my wrists hurt. Should I do something to support my wrists before or during? Also, a couple of suggestions. Wear a colored shirt (not white) if you are demonstrating against a white background. Personally, I prefer your videos filmed in your exam room rather than that boring white room.
I was carrying luggage in both hands down the stairway and missed the step with my left leg and came down two steps down. Suffered for 3 weeks with sciatic pain although the first 6 days were the worst...maybe an hour of sleep a night. Still not sure if it was piriformis or lumbar disc. Much better now although recently I've been having transient numbness in my foot everyday.
Great content guys. Please next time you do a disc bulge vid.. you need to mention the coccyx cushion.. this paired with a good lumbar cushion at the same time. can equal pain free driving for people enduring this injury. Thanks

This pretty much describes what I'm dealing with. Been quite bad for last few years. I'm almost 35 been bed ridden for year and a half because something in my lower back messed up and I lost all motion down my back and leg with excruciating pain. After month after month went by with constant pain I literally thought I might not walk normal by myself again. I thought my body was giving up on me, think your dying or something it was so bad and pain unbearable straight for year. Suck because if wasn't for having a terrible lower back I'd feel relatively great. After nearly year I started to be able to walk and bend over a bit in less pain. Only thing seem to work was laying in bed.
I too feel the same now...i am just im bed ridden for almost a week..i have my rehab for 10 sessions but it just got worse then when i went home i just woke up that i can no longer move my right leg or shall i say it doesnt have strength anymore but only the feeling of pain...Now im just literally lying in my bed waiting for miracle to happen coz i really got depress but i cant do anything at all...
Hello. I have pain on my tailbone and it eradiates to my upper shoulders where I feel intense burning. Occasionally, it goes down to my fingertips of my right hand. Can you please let me know what exercises to do? Thank you.
I had sciatic pain for years. I don't recall any specific injury that caused it. Anywho, in 2017 I injured my back lifting a chair into the back seat of my car. That was in August. I couldn't stand straight so, long story short, I got surgery for a herniated disc L4-L5 in January 2018. Felt great. Doc also did laminectomy at L5-S1. But sciatica slowly came back. My mom was dying in July and for the few days she was unconscious I helped move her by lifting the sheet underneath her. Well, I did something and I had horrible pain. Funny how you forget certain pains because I can't remember exactly what I couldn't do movement wise except that I do remember having a hard time turning in bed. OH, and I did got to a chiropractor. One just talked too much and was just ok. Second one is the one I think helped me. She asked a lot of questions and just felt like she knew what she was doing. Will def go back if I get sciatica again. For some reason, after a year, it went away. Now, I'm doing good. No pain in lower back. LOL, what I'm saying is that I'm glad I got back surgery.
Can’t do many exercises because of bad knees, had 1 knee replacement need another one but putting off as long as I can. I have l5s1 damage and the pain is in hips and down both legs to backs of knees. Had an accident back in June and have a frozen shoulder. Thank you for sharing. What does it tell if I feel relief by climbing steps for the same pain reason we have been describing here? Does it consider one of the exercises or altogether a different problem?
My joint pain in that L5/Sacrum does not involve the nerve (thankfully!). I don't have shooting pains/numbness/tingling or cold water feeling, just very sore after walks or standing too long. I'll sit (like driving home after a hike) for relief and then when I stand up again . OUCH!!! . ... It is relieved with hot pack and/or ibuprofen. Can you have a L5/S1bulging disc causing pain after exertion but that doesn't trigger the sciatic nerve??

How are you doing. Now?
@@Cupillac I am 97%... it's been a learning process... why do you ask.?
@@sarahconnor9799 did you allow your body to heal or did you pushed it through? I am very athletic too snd and I can't stay inactive 😔
Did u heal I'm 5months pain with no sciatica only back pain from disc bulge to the left L5 and s1 how do I heal did ur back pain go away?
Guys thank you so much for the information. Definitely appreciate the education on a topic that is very important when you have this problem. Had a car accident 15 years ago and through all of my information gathering never saw information quite this clear. Thanks again .you are by far the most famous PT's on the internet🌝👍
Mine is L5 and the pain goes up my left back and down to my butt. All this time I thought I had a hip injury from running. PT is helping tremendously. Go if you can!! I waited 4 freaking years to get help for this.
Is PT permanent solution or i can go for surgery
@@jeeva5479 if you keep up the exercises after your done with PT, you’ll do much better. Gotta get the muscles all strong again. The inflammation has weakened them. I’m doing sooooo much better now. The elliptical machine helps a lot too. Good luck!! Surgery should be last resort.
@@christine9467 thank you
Have you ever visited a chiropractor?

Two wise men. experienced and popular. Thanks
Ann
how you recover? tell us your success story?
Did you drive at all and not experience pain? I either lay down, stand for a short period or walk.
How u recovered and whats your age?

Your marketing is on point. I get your theme song stuck in my head sometimes! 🤣 Thank you for your content.
Thanks bob and brad🙏
high chairs works beautifully for me...relief right away. hope it was last. thank you, always. much appreciation to you two.
Thankyou both for your info, i always enjoy you show and tell helps understand alot better, i have started follwing yall for over a month now ( the amount of time i have been suffering of sciatica) i have a question what happens if you get better from the calf to hip but symptoms (burning needles and electric shock like pain)persist in the foot ?
Toe extention is impossible and now my foot is swelling
i had to go into ER last week with severe pain in the lower left back through the left buttocks down the side and front of my thigh and the front of my shin is numb. they said they thought it was sciotica. it does not seem like its getting better. i have been trying your exercises and it does create some temporary relief but as soon as i stand for or start walking for a few minutes the pain come back real bad.
Have you seen your Dr?
See a chiropractor!
Hanging from a pullup bar with legs touching floor will give u best results. You can search on TH-cam about this workout. This worked for me like magic. It decompress the spine..
I find that sitting back in my chair is not good for my lower back (which does have an L5S1 disc bulge) - this is because the back of the seat is LOW compared to the front of the seat. I have found I sit forward and tall is helpful. (most of the time I use a standing desk)
hey guys! i have a bulging disk l5s1, iv been unable to do anything for weeks now and been suffering with this for years and mt doctors refuse to give me surgery yet. my lower back is always swollen and the pain that radiates there is agony now. your videos help me a lot though! for years now been watching :)
How are you now hope you're doing well ❤️🩹
Thanks. I will do the exercises. I have problem with my L5 S1 disc.

This will help my back pain thank youuuu
Thank u thank u! I just got diagnosed with this specifically!
Thanks for your great videos. I've got a question for you. What's the difference between posterior and anterior bulging? Which one is worse?
I am a wheelchair user and recently hurt my back with prolonged leaning over. My sciatica only goes to above the back of my knee. I’ve had 2 previous surgeries over 20 years ago for a re-occurring disc prolapse but it was mainly the other leg.
I am so sorry!
I hope you get better!
My MRI report says-
1. Lumbarspondylosis.
2. Diffuse disc bulge at L4-L5 level

It’s so fun watching your videos. Thank you so much for all your wonderful information.
Thank you saved for future reference 😊
Thanks.
Have you found any relief? Please let me know. Dealing with a similar issue.
Thanks very much for that...sciatica sucks....I'll definitely try out what you've suggested. UK.
I’m going to try that today, thank you
Hey B&B, thanks for your videos!
Definitely the best in the internet
thank you so much Bob & Brad!!!
Wow, you guys ARE the best, thank you for your help!!
Thanks
A coccyx cushion to elevate your bottom too?

How you going now?
I too feel the same now...i am just im bed ridden for almost a week..i have my rehab for 10 sessions but it just got worse then when i went home i just woke up that i can no longer move my right leg or shall i say it doesnt have strength anymore but only the feeling of pain...Now im just literally lying in my bed waiting for miracle to happen coz i really got depress but i cant do anything at all...

It has really been helpful...
Even though you got the pain back after the surgery was done?
What is a laminectomy I have a left disc bulge in my L5 s1 and been having back pain 5 months
Update as of 6/10/2022

Are squats with the bar part of the treatment for sciatica, or is this a general exercise for healthy posture?
Thank you guys so much. Fantastic!
What do you think about swimming daily?
